  1. What is up with the Queensboro master tower that would cause the (F)/(M) swap?
  2. There were some gaps on the local this morning as well. Not sure what the cause was.
  3. Not 100% sure on the timing, but the swaps on the started happening in 2013/2014, which was a few years before testing began IIRC
  4. 5654 is on the for the am rush, just left times square a minute ago going southbound. Also the R46s do have an 86 st Gravesend destination sign
  5. I remember @RR503 posted something on the timer thread about how timers were put in during the CPW resignalling to increase capacity with shorter control lines, that may have something to do with slower express trains
  6. That escalated quickly. Wasnt there when I passed thru last Friday. On another random note, I am wondering how vanadal proof the system will be. I am guessing despite the big screen, it will be harder to damage the readers. I also remember seeing a twitter exchange that the readers are designed to work even if the screen is broken.
  7. Done right, signs or a whiteboard can reduce confusion. Done wrong, signs can add confusion. Case in point TfL have signs for planned work for the current time and upcoming weekend at each station and whiteboards that are updated every hour by staff with the service status.
  8. Toronto is another example of better ops. Was there last weekend and trains were short turning on the eastern section as part of a weekend closure. Trains ran on 5 minute headways with a 2 minute turnaround time using a single pocket terminal operation on a 2 track line. No CBTC or ATO in that section yet.
  9. OMNY in theory could allow any number of transfers since the fare is calculated on a fare engine server. However the Metrocard currently has some 3 legged transfers programmed today
  10. I did a test yesterday using OMNY with 3 different payment methods. I noticed a very slight difference in processing speed: 1. Contactless credit card took about a half second to process 2. Samsung pay with card activated took a little less than 1 second 3. Samsung pay transit mode (screen off) took slightly more than one second. Overall it is slightly slower than a successful metrocard swipe but none of that swipe again bs that we all know and love. Also it is hard to see the reader if you go all the way up to the turnstile arm while tapping, but the click of the unlocking arm and the traditional beep help a lot so not a big deal. Supposedly thats what will happen
  11. The book has been updated since I dowloaded it last. However i think, based on the original and current language in the book, the all door boarding will be done as an installation without a pilot. It says the change orders to accomodate ADB have been finalized. I am assuming the SBS pilot is separate, testing the fare inspection aspect (hardware, back office comms, etc).
  12. Some notes from the November 2019 CPOC board book Rollout of OMNY readers resumes in December 2019 and continues until October 2020 Manhattan buses will start getting OMNY readers in 1st quarter of 2020 3 million taps so far 80% of usage is mobile wallet vs 20% contactless cards On budget and on schedule All door bus boarding will be confirmed via a change order. Will work via a reader at each door Next six months (besides what is listed above): SBS pilot New self service and account management features
  13. There was an AMNY article saying that Lex and the just got some speed upgrades. Any places besides Union Sq, Canal St, and Fresh Pond Rd?
  14. Similar question, what happens to the AM and PM trains that run to 96th/2nd via Sea Beach/4th Ave and the return trips?
  15. If accomodating visitors is a short term goal, then the following stops should also get the readers earlier IMO: Sutphin (for connection from JFK airtrain) Howard Beach (for connection from JFK airtrain) Jackson Heights Roosevelt Ave / 74th St and Q70 buses (for connection to and from Q70)
  16. From observing brooklyn bound trains at Essex while waiting for a downtown , entrance speeds there are low too if train doesnt have the lineup at the end of the platform.
  17. Some of these oddly specific delay alerts are interesting
  18. The site itself says group transfers are supported but doesnt clarify the procedure
  19. Temporary white signs are finally up above the platforms on 6th Ave and 2nd Ave mentioning night and weekend (M) via 2nd Ave
  20. When travelling with multiple people on the same payment device, how do free transfers work? Do you tap the device once for each person or only once for the group like the Metrocard?
