  1. Sometimes drivers just wave people with Metrocards onto the bus if they're behind schedule. Saw this happen every once in a blue moon on the B6 Limited by the Rockaway station. In the case of a farebox malfunction, they'd probably be OOS once a driver makes it to their terminal.
  2. Something unheard of in a while but JG C40LF 404 is on the B6 as I speak
  3. Anyone wanna bet they'll change the NTT announcements for the reopened Cortlandt St? 👀
  4. B82 (Local): Coney Island - Stillwell Avenue Spring Creek Towers-Seaview Avenue B82 LIMITED: Coney Island Spring Creek Towers
  5. Ver 1=Strategic Mapping (or just simply Strategic) Ver 2= Vianova Ver 3=CleverDevices Ver 4= Luminator
  6. So long as it isn't blaring those annoying service alerts every 5 minutes or so like on the C40LF's (I'm looking at you Luminator), then it's very likely Clever Devices. Another way to tell is if the "Please Exit Through the Rear Doors" announcement is still the same human voice from since the delivery of the NGs rather than text-to-speech as heard in the incoming buses that have the White-Grey framed screens (Vianova).
  7. Probably still tryna get the programs for the screens and announcements sorted out for the B46SBS. Remember: These were only fully programmed for JA Depot routes as well as the M15SBS and Q44SBS. Also remember that the 73xx screens initially didn't come with transfer announcements until after some time later and even after they added that in, some things had to be sorted out (example: announcing LTD in B103 LTD literally as L T D instead of "Limited") Different manufacturers. Different programs. The 76xx-series has screens from Vianova while the 73xx-series screens are from some other company. And if i read correctly from an older forum post, all post-2008 the buses have Clever IVN so there's also a matter in getting the screens compatible with what whatever OEM version of IVN is on board the bus.
  8. Technically speaking...it isnt a person. It's the same text to speech program used on the LFSA Screens
  9. Loved seeing those paint schemes when I was younger. But unfortunately the MTA decided to do away with the black paint on the sides and eventually the rear to save money or something like that
  10. The NG Hybrids (and by extension the VII hybrids in general) were meant to run on stop & go routes in most of the other four boroughs. They aren't suitable for Staten Island local bus routes (especially the 79SBS) as they can practically run thru open suburban roads that allow for higher speeds and, as a result, breakdown frequently. There was also the issue of the digital screens messing them up electrically but might've been fixed by now
  11. It was mentioned a page or two ago that the Luminator Spectrum sign programs are being modified to have similar (if not identical) typefaces seen on the Hanover signs. Interesting especially since the fonts for the 'LIMITED' and '+SELECT BUS' sign text is now virtually indistinguishable between Lum. and Han.
  12. Unusual especially for the MTA Bus Co. C40LFs. Spotted 571 with a Good Day NY front ad which completely caught me by surprise.
  13. He meant its the end of the flip-dot/Allison VII CNGs
  14. It's saved and put on another part along with whatever could be reused such as seats, wipers, mirrors, etc.
  15. So regarding any type of Orion VII OG preservation, wouldn't it be more expensive to preserve and maintain an HEV over a CNG given the expensive nature of maintaining the BAE Hybridrive and it's significant wear and tear over the years (esp. on some routes without much stop and go) or is it the other way around?
  16. It's not much of a problem for the NICE announcement system because the only announcement they have for stops with a multitude of bus transfers is "Multiple transfers available" (or "Major Transfer Point" in the LIB days) instead of listing every line a route intersects with at said stop. In addition, they only announce cross streets (e.g. Sanford Av and Kissena Blvd) when it's at a stop where the route turns onto another street. Compare this to say the announcements on the C40LFs where they announce cross streets along with "Next Stop is" then "Now arriving at"...more or less "Upcoming Stops are [announces next two stops]" but that seems to have been done away with recently. This all may sound slight but it could be enough to possibly pose a problem for an MTA local route since, given the spacing of various bus stops here in the city, there's the chance of losing more essential travel information than there is gaining it (In other words, you could be already missing 1-2 stops by the time an announcement for the one prior finishes playing.)
  17. Forgot to mention but it turns out the company that's making the screens for the C40LFs out of CP and SC is Luminator. Could only tell since the company name flashed a couple of times during a software update in the middle of a B103 run.
  18. 572 had them since early last year. 589 looks fairly recent and is different cuz it has working WiFi.
  19. Looks like SC is getting a round of upgrades as well.. just got off 589 with info screens and wifi
  20. It baffles me that despite having a memo posted up, some drivers still don't cross honor the Select tickets on local buses. I was waiting for a 44 Select by Nostrand/Church earlier this week to go to my AM classes and seeing that the next Select was all the way at St John's Pl and a ticket already in hand, I decided on trying to board a local with a ticket for the first time but then the driver stopped and questioned me as to why i was using an SBS receipt to board his local bus. I had no other source but the MTA website to explain the cross honoring situation to him but even then he kept saying that I'm only supposed to use the tickets on Select Buses only. He then told me I was holding him up and I subsequently kicked myself out of the bus then waited about 10 minutes for the Select to come by. Ironically i struck up a convo with a 44 Select driver about this and he said that Select tickets were supposed to be accepted on the locals.
  21. Welp guess I was the stupid one trying to explain to a FB driver that we can use the B44 Select tickets to board B44 locals. 🤷

I've never heard of that. Quite honestly, the buses register differently. You can actually Xfer between B44 and B44-SBS because the MetroCard sees them as two different buses.

For kicks and giggles, I dipped my MC on a SBS fare box although I already had my ticket  - it said Invalid Card, which means the box already counted it.

  22. Would the rebuilt stations become slightly quieter due to the materials used for the new wall and floor tiling (like the new South Ferry, 34-Hudson, & the 2 Av Subway)?
  23. As much as anyone here would love to agree with you, to renovate Chambers St would be more expensive than renovating any other subway station serving a single line in the system pretty much due to its size. Funny and yet sad to think that this was one of the major masterpieces of the BMT really. While a renovation isn't guaranteed, ADA accessibility for the platforms is planned so that's something.
