  1. I didn't go to it, but from what I saw on video, everyone looked to behave fine. That Q train surfer must've been different from the parade trains, since it was a Q.
  2. The R142A 6 trains have actually been in service on the line since 2000, that was back when they were still testing the trains. Making it almost 18 years of NTT service on the line...
  3. Theres people who believe the BQX is a good idea and there is space to warrant it, but with it's completion date being at the very least 2024, its funding being questioned, and many thinking it would not be a good substitute for the subway to get around (instead made to spur developments and drive up land costs in the region, as an example: Portland Oregons trams, a lot people dont see it as a good idea at all. Of course, what you think of the BQX is solely up to you...
  4. Well, we have to remember the MTA continues to make these projects like SAS way too expensive and long to make in the first place, and if we want to build an less costly extension to the SAS or any other corridor that needs a subway, it's likely too crowded for a light rail in the first place, so our only option is to make the train cheaper. I feel building light rails city wide will only ignore the issue of subway expansion in general, and why we need to fix it, and I dont feel light rails are good in this regard since building all future expansions with light rail wont give it the aforementioned capacity of an actual subway, speed or ability to last long either, and if your going to build a tunnel just for a light rail due to above ground crowds and traffic, why not just make it an actual subway. Lastly, light rails aren't avoiding being expensive projects that take forever either (just look at the D.C. streetcar), they are still prone to bad politics, becoming over budget and/or vanity projects that dont really need to exist, point is, they can cost tons as well, and it wont change anything about why the MTA is preforming poorly these days. I feel streetcars do have a place in the city, but using them to replace subways and high density areas sounds outlandish to me.
  5. Meanwhile In Asia... And Practically Everywhere Else...
  6. You can't send any R32's down on the Rockaway Park since R32's dont allow for one person train operation, at least in it's shorter shuttle form which the always runs on. It can be sent down when it is normal car length similar to the , which can happen in the summer and during other times sporadically, as evidenced by previous events, albeit I think some (if not many or all) of the cars will only have an instead of side sign which isn't super practical anyways for the service. The oldest train that can be sent down on the line when it usually runs is the R46 that allows for OPTO. Which already is happening on the shuttle and is much more simpler.
  7. They likely will not go back to the / or normal since those lines have to be NTT by the Canarsie shutdown, my guess is if they do, then it wouldn't be for long. It could be assigned to the or , like some people suggest/foam over, maybe even the or but, honestly, it's not too supportable and there's no definitive answer, where it goes is anyone guess. I'd also like to add on that they should be retired soon, once the R179's arrive, R42's aren't the best even to other old trains, so they might also be gone once all of Bombardiers lemons arrive, once again, gotta wait for the definitve answer(s).
  8. What?! I'll try to be objective... We should stress it and R179's because of the reasons you just listed, Bombardier was a mess and caused R179's to be delayed by years, they caused money and time to be lost and MTA just wont get it back. "Smoove Trains" is no reason the MTA backs off of an already messed up order, we cant have the MTA sit back and tolerate messes endured, while they are being hurt themselves. If the MTA isn't stressing or at least being concerned of it, then how do we expect all to be in service by the start of the Canarsie shutdown, an event that will also affect strap-hangers, we dont want Bombardier to make any more serious mistakes after what was mentioned. Coney Island Av just stated he's happy to see the R179's going back in service after an error, not a reason why we or the MTA should relieve stresses of waiting for all the trains to go in service.
  9. Finally Happened!! And it's not too likely old trains will show back up, they lasted so long however, R62A Were first tested on the line on April 14, 1985, and there last run almost 33 years later in March 30th, 2018 (yesterday).
  10. Im surprised some people still believe in this fantasy, cant believe there's 27 pages of argument here... Why exactly? Maybe im not getting something here. The idea of it is that we can take old structures and use them again, but if the Rockaway Beach Branch is built, it'll have to be from the ground up, but those previous structures definitley cant last. Plus the MTA will have to update everything, create a new design for stations and who knows, they might pointlessly overspend on the project that doesn't hold much significance anyways. If they don't do all of this, then why would it be built at all? It's either you leave it the way it'll crumble or fix it up. But as I said before, it wont be fixed up since the area and stations aren't dense anyways, and doesn't have nearby influence of Manhattan, I mean, it's central-southern Queens. Little people would ride it and it'll only be none/little better than just taking nearby buses. This leads to major problems like trying to convince people to move to the area, upgrading old signals, etc... I summed up most of the problems with this foamer eyecandy. And really want to ask why is this still a debated topic? I know it's my opinion, but undoubtedly a common one at that.
  11. No, they are, in the past few years, R62/A's keep diminishing on the as time goes on. There are only around 1 to maybe 3 sets on the line now with all being sent to the once CTBC is completed for the , which requires NTT. CTBC for the line is basically almost completed at this point, so the sets will leave soon.
  12. Good point: So only less than or around a 1/3 usually even a 1/4 of the with 60ft cars during peak hours will be composed of 179’s. Also, Im not sure if the one R68 set on the line will stay, or go to other lines once the 179’s come. This question was probably already answered, so no need to be detailed.
  13. 24 5 car sets, or roughly 120 individual cars, for reference, the has a bit above 300 individual cars in service. So R179s definitely are enough to cover a vast majority of the fleet. Many R46’s are leaving the so the fleet will consist of: -Roughly Half R179s -A majority of R32’s from and -Little to few R46s
  14. Yes, and it’ll get most if not all 5 car R179 sets, the first set will go in service likely soon or maybe in mid 2018 but there’s no specific date. All R179’s thatll eventually be on the will be on that line by the time of the Canarsie shutdown. Website I use for rolling stock: http://www.thejoekorner.com/carassignments/bmt-ind-2018-01-12.htm Hoped any of this helped.
  15. It's been a LONG while since that was the case! Most R44's/46's have been on that line for dinosaur years.
  16. Not saying your statement is wrong, but the IRT clocks are quite a bit more reliable than B division countdown clocks. I wouldn't expect it since B division relies on Bluetooth, even half the time, the B division clocks display a plain white screen when im at at station. The IRT clocks can be skeptical at points but I can barely rely on B division clocks at any moment.
  17. My opinon and from what I read on the topic: I dont expect R42's to be removed until after the Canarsie shutdown, my guess of why is the expansion of fleet requirements. So eventually yes, the R179's will phase out the R42's from NYCT operation. I also heard that the might lose all it's R160's eventually from an earlier post, but dont quote me on that.
  18. Omg lol, thats pretty good art , very sad they'll probably get rid of it.
  19. Yes, The C went to the Bronx and I think Rock Park? A super long line back then to say the least.
  20. Im not sure how we possibly can, his last few proposals have been LOL at best, and were not even being respectful trying to argue with him ! Unless his next few proposals make up for this joke, Im calling it
  21. Keeping that A extension I see...
  22. He just said in the post "convert the rest of it to an AirTrain-style automated light rail system.", it fills the subway system need anyways and can be expanded to more areas in the rockaways (if that's even needed) since it's cheaper. I wouldn't imagine it being worse in terms of service or capacity either, our ridership is damn low and most people who live here have cars.
  23. Obviously they will get new fleets, just as an example, id be surprised to see R68/A's on the 500 years from now! They will get newer fleets but maybe not as frequently or new as other lines for reasons like ridership (although the might be an exception since it has decent ridership and did have some R160's for a while as well).
