  1. Not to mention they were the last model's in NYC Subway made entirely (IIRC) in America and by a company has all but imploded upon itself today. I find it hard to feel too emotionally nostalgic over the R44/R46 due to many bad experiences and reliability issues I've had with it on the . But as for the trains themselves, I find them very charming and classic, they definitely stand the test of time very well for what they are, and continue to be living pieces of history (right besides the R32). Granted, there "change" hasn't always been well received, ex. 60 foot carriages to 75 foot. But these trains represent the last dying moments in history of America's rapid train/subway expansion and ambition; heck, even during the introduction of these trains, the government was already endorsing highways, and the subway itself was falling apart. That analysis is general for a certainly, but it's hard to imagine the society and cultural outlook behind trains and projects in this country before and during that era, without stepping foot on a train like the R46, and being whisked to that time for good or bad. Now, if only this country could produce more proper trains today, sigh...
  2. If you're talking about the going local (late nights), it runs between 207 and Far Rockaway as a local. Then a shuttle train between Euclid Avenue and Lefferts takes effect serving that branch.
  3. Hopefully, I'm sure the has figured out those things are nothing but a waste of time...
  4. Both the north and south bound platforms of 121 are technically up and running. The MTA likely will finish whatever work needs to be done at the southbound platform (which should've been completed in the first place but whatever), and the northbound platform's been running since late 2017. What'll happen next is anyone's guess...
  5. That's simply awful, I actually had to do a double take on that statistic. I'm surprised there hasn't been enough consistency over bus bunching and dispatching as of yet in this agency (on big and small routes). I've dealt with both issues more frequently from 3 years ago when I first started riding the bus network, yet little's changed. I guess the MTA loves to make it harder and harder to justify higher fares each year...smh
  6. Sadly, I loved riding the R32's on the for the longest of time just for nostalgia. Happy to see more R179's and NTT's entering the line however... Yup, I'm pretty sure it is four, wonder how long the R179's will last on the ? (4 car sets at least)
  7. As for closed station entrances, I am well aware Broad Channel has a closed exit only staircase on the northern section of the south-bound platform (I'll try to find more information on it), it isn't an "entrance" but I thought it was worth mentioning since it's no longer used. I think Beach 105 and 98 street stations also have some entrances removed due to the renovation occurring there in 2011-2012. EDIT: Never mind, Latter two stations I mentioned are already on the Wiki page. Another one is the passageway at Aqueduct Racetrack station which has been subsequently removed, the passageway led directly to the racetrack itself and it served as the only entrance to the station until the early 2010's... https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/53/Aqueduct_Racetrack_2010_entrance_vc.jpg/800px-Aqueduct_Racetrack_2010_entrance_vc.jpg
  8. I can safely say it comes down to two big things: 1. Those were the first stations to get the ESI treatment, that was before the allocated money basically ran out. 2.The stations weren't in bad condition to begin with, most of the tile work and floors weren't rotting whatsoever (the worse I'd call it is gloomy). The general design of them are pretty good for what ESI is supposed to do and that's why it worked well.
  9. If that was there goal, then they failed miserably. The cosmetic ESI work on this station looks desperate at best. Certain stations that have ESI (4th Av. stations) can get away with little tile or floor work as intended. But I’d like to see the at least go a bit further in fixing them for some stops like these.
  10. That actually makes sense, since the train wasn't taking in passengers. I presume it'll take another set of weeks-months for the train to truly start running on the . Come to think of it, I'm just going to celebrate for now, since once the 5 car 179's go into service. Pitkin will likely wear and tear the cars to there core, so I'm sure it'll end up looking like the R160 's in no time. Lol...
  11. The reopened 145 street station is certainly better than what it used to be, though I question the not fixing (or painting over) certain parts of the ceilings above where the train passes through (same with the CPW stations). It looks ugly where it's crumbled and I presume it'll get worse with time.
  12. Living in Far Rockaway myself, I will say that certain suburban enclaves of the neighborhood (like in the SE section, and Bayswater) are very safe and mostly crime free. However, from my experience, the Mott Av. area near the train isn't all that safe sometimes and crimes can be frequent (a robber robbed my friend at this same stop one time). @EphraimB is right in that it isn't all sunshine and roses in the area, but you just have to deal with it and I'll admit it's annoying. As for the cops, there actually is the 101 precinct which isn't that far away, but I highly doubt they would do much. He stepped outside the subway station when he was attacked, and he might've been out of the station cop's line of sight, or they just couldn't do anything about it. Either way, it's really annoying and I wish some of them could guard the outside perimeter of the station too (I've almost never seen that); many people get into fights, scream, smoke drugs or sadly panhandle out there and I'm sure Ephraim would've been safer if this were the case.
  13. R32’s cannot run on the due to not being retrofitted with CBTC most likely. It was probably a school car between the two.
  14. Bus lanes? That’d make the traffic situation much worse on Austin St. (which is already a somewhat small street near the car-heavy Queens Bvld.). It’ll only save the bus (Q23) a few minutes of time. But force drivers who drive or park (some reluctant to any public transport unfortunatley), onto other streets that are already packed with cars and buses, or parking lots that will now be overloaded and more expensive. That’s seems a little inefficent to me. I can’t imagine the troubles as well if the lanes aren’t enforced, a common issue I see today on some lanes throughout the city.
  15. Where was that R68 from? I feel it didn't come from the one set that runs on the since it's pretty clean (compared to what I usually see from Pitkin). Maybe it came from the or though that's just my thoughts. Still, a pretty interesting catch that I'd love to see in person since R68's are rare on 8th Avenue and Fulton St local. I know @FlushingExpress doesn't likely ride the , but this is probably making him angry!
  16. I know it may not have been possible, but I'd still be nice to see the original announcer of the line record the station name instead of Mitchell. Or just a different announcer entirely to announce "This Is A __ Bound Train, The Next Stop Is WTC-Cortlandt" for consistency.
  17. Yes, should be 4 foot 8.5 inches for both systems today.
  18. The graphics are pretty good considering this is running on console hardware as old as 2013! I wonder if you can pilot M3's or older, that'd be nice if possible.
  19. I don't think it'll take that much longer for the to traverse to Lefferts Blvd, the elevated branch isn't that long to begin with. Also, under @RR503's proposal, this'll only occur during off peak; rush hour should be unaffected, so I highly doubt it'll affect everyone severely.
  20. To divert all trains to Far Rockaway, or Rockaway Park as the southern terminus.
  21. You're correct...I never did the math at all and simply wen't off something I heard, which must've been inaccurate now that I've checked it myself. I still think it's important to keep the Lefferts branch instead diverting all trains to the Rockaways since the region along Lefferts is relatively dense, and mismanaging the traffic flow by forcing more people and cars on the streets and road, would cause disaster and slower commutes in general. I never called for no service to the Rockaway's, I agree it's a bit of a disaster at the moment (sidenote: I once waited for 4 Lefferts bound trains before a Rockaway one showed up), but I don't feel cutting off Lefferts service is what's needed to do so. Interesting, this would be via the Fulton local, correct? I know some of your proposals saw permanent service to Lefferts with the Fulton express (with taking over the local).
  22. The Lefferts Blvd section of the has more ridership than both Rockaway Branches combined. Can you imagine that many people clogging the streets on a daily basis? Even with buses, traffic will be a nightmare and accessibility for those impaired will be greatly reduced... Nobody wants to walk 20 min to their nearest stop, consider that’s the reason you were so passionate about the Reeds Lane proposal!
  23. That's the case with a majority of the subway bathrooms in this city anyways (at least the ones that aren't chained!). I don't think anyone's gonna change that anytime soon since this issue has extended itself for decades. So it's a common bit to knowledge to just go before you leave honestly.
  24. I don't think anyone knows for now... Personally, I'd prefer burn in since the individual R179 cars themselves have already been in service for a while now. But again, we'll have to see once future time comes closer.
