  1. From what I've heard, some actually do not since the design of the cab is less intuitive for them, and much smaller which makes it uncomfortable to make certain runs. Opinions vary though, I'll have to find out more...
  2. Correct technically until 1998, when at that point, the terminal of the was swapped with the . The terminates at 168st and usually at 145 or Concourse during Rush hours. The always went to Concourse and won't be replaced anytime soon. There won't be any change to that until the comes out with an announcement in a release.
  3. Where did you get this from!? Sounds like a lot of to me!
  4. I've seen an R42 set myself before during late last year that Dj Hammers managed to catch. That run was a school run, so this run should be the same. I dunno why they'd run a 40+ yr old OOS train for no reason, besides it being a school run.
  5. That’s been Westchester for years, at least the R142A’s are off that depot being newer since they will suffer more over there than corona. Corona has kept its cars clean from way before the Redbirds (sometimes, even during the 70’s, 80’s), and it shows. I’m not too fimiliar with the yard, but I wonder if they should upgrade or fix westchester to handle more thorough or frequent car repair, since those R62s will still be in service for many years.
  6. Yes, though not all on the were preserved, Beach 67 - Gaston got its name changed to Arverne By The Sea, that won’t be going away anytime soon.
  7. Interesting... This type of reform wouldn’t just affect the subway. Having the power to go anywhere, anytime wouldn’t just make the collapse (presuming they failed to adapt). It would also make many car, plane and boat companies fall too (government bailout would little help when, teleportation is very powerful, literally). Whoever manned such a industry as large as the ability to teleport people would be in complete control over the design of cities, and the lifestyles of people they influenced. I’m not sure what the specifics would be on such a plan, probably not as all powerful given political situations and divide today, but it’s development would bring about a slew of new challenges and consequences in society, ups and downs. Wayyy too far reaching for such a specific thread like this. That being said, other factors such as cost of teleportation also need to come into the big picture as well, and that would be important even if it is possible. If it can’t compete with the subway overall in price and management of money, I will say it stands a harder chance at gaining its ground.
  8. I did hear some chatter towards Bombardier before the section started. Seems like some people such as Andrew A. remain skeptical over Bombardiers preformance as brought up. However, Byford though was much more supportive towards the manufacturer in contrast. So Bombardier may not be banned for the bidding in theory, but time will tell how they stand against other bidders if not banned. Just gotta wait and see to actually know I guess...
  9. Even if you didn’t regurgitate the shutdown nonsense (just google “L shutdown called off” online). I was referring to @VIP’s comment, not yours.
  10. Maybe honestly, but let’s not drive this thread off topic any further.
  11. @Richard Lewis None of this is correct whatsoever, the SMEES can’t even operate on the and the shutdown was called off https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2019/01/18/l-train-shutdown-officially-canceled/ You are beating a dead horse at this point, slow down...
  12. @Enjineer Yup, you should be correct, a post from @East New York a few months back (above yours) indicates the R179 5 car set only has to run through burn in, since it’s logically not a different model.
  13. I’m not saying you shouldn’t speculate all you want, but we won’t know for a certainty until we get closer to the launch; the contractor hasn’t even been picked yet at this point for crying out loud.
  14. Oh really, knocking at the foamers.... I do recall you said this just last Sunday! Hopefully you know Im just joking, its not just foamers that assume this after all, but in reality, I cannot wait to see the R42s on the again as I havent seen it for years!
  15. Dont fan in Williamsburg or first avenue on the , you’ll be eaten alive by hipsters.
  16. Especially since the signage tells you where the bus is going to specifically. Getting rid of that and expecting every single person to perfectly get on their identical bus routes (especially from Manhattan) is trouble waiting to happen.
  17. Honestly, the day the gets signage 100% right is likely the day this world ends, damn shame I won’t be alive to see that moment come in my life...
  18. Absolutely, I emailed my local politicians on this matter and they gave me no real response in change, even after giving them around 6 months and some time to respond (they are humans after all). That’s a pretty big hurdle to this restructuring of RBB and transit in general around this section of Queens. The city seems focused more on other fish to fry and the current analogy put on this project is just extra HW (or credit), for lack of a better word. Itll take years for such a plan to meet fruition at this stage, if they even start tomorrow (obviously not), it’s going to take another 5 years at least with a lot of drive that still needs more on top of that to get it right. For good or bad...
  19. @MrQuesada Bewitching argument you brought up, definitely a unique perspective from someone who mostly panned the project! I will say that subway service in general needs to improve. And the importance of a North - South connector is important, just look at the Q53 (one of the most ridden on buses in the city, where subways don’t run). The can be a complete joke and I think that three factors will need to be addressed before it improves. 1. Improving fleet and infrastructure such as the south channel bridge and timers 2. Getting trains to run faster and more reliably (relies on 1) 3. Increased capacity through Fulton St, especially with rising demands, CBTC isn’t the only deciding factor in this. Can’t say much for the , but I do feel any improvement to the line lessens the number of people transferring at Sutphin to the . And with an idea of bringing up a new connector to the subway system directly impacting QBL, balancing passengers matter, since the QBL is beyond capacity for any leniency. I just hope that such a plan like this (if done) isn’t done on the cheap. This line pushes vast impacts that may yield good in the long run. But cheaping out when restoring stations and signals, harms its ability to mediate service needs on Fulton and Jamaica, and attract passengers. As well as not fit well onto QBL with concerns like crowding and reliability as mentioned before and in others posts. I also don’t want this project to be milked upon by politicians when concerns like obtaining funding are still high, even if the infastructure is there already, it’s NY and anything happens. My 5 cents though...
  20. In a way, yes. These are two different issues entirely, the fact that their late isn’t obviously good in any way and I don’t respect Bombardier for these mistakes they’ve failed to adapt upon lately (not just in NY). But honestly, all trains have kinks that need to be worked with time, being perfect out of the gate can almost be classified as luck . So with that, it isn’t exactly the end of the world at all.
  21. Is that to be used back before the Archer Ave. extensions took effect, and ’s terminated at the stop? If so, I’m surprised they still have it.
  22. Shoutouts to the NYPD here since some people really do have no shame. Of all the days this crazy man picks to cause a scene, of course he picks the first day of the year where police alert is higher than normal.
  23. Happy new years to all transit forum posters in NY and the United States east coast!
  24. From my perspective, people should start to get photos while they can, the R-42 on the and to a lesser extent, . Are the last SMEE's on the line with nothing but numbered days ahead before Canarsie.
  25. I understand people like and hate certain fleets over others (I myself) and honestly it's healthy for most to an extent, but never to a level where I'd not take a specific model, or tear someone's skin apart over it for crying out loud. That's a pretty petty reason to butcher your commute and lifestyle, my opinion though.
