  1. Definitely, and not even that, same goes true for other systems that the looks to partner with. It would be harder to justify partnering with if the KEY system is broken, flawed (which it is).
  2. Totally valid points and I may support that (to an extent). However, @Around the Horn was (on an orthogonal note) stating the potential problems lying under connecting OMNY with SEPTA's problems they haven't fixed yet. More of a logistical problem than a ethical concern in this case.
  3. Yeah, that was by FAR my biggest concern with SEPTA's system; even if it technically could work with OMNY, It definitely wont be cheap or easy. I doubt New York will screw this up, with good technology and lot's of prior mistakes made by other payment systems around the world. It certainly could turn out to be very good at launch.
  4. Well @Wallyhorse, technically the SEPTA Key can used as a debit card (Mastercard) if you load money onto it. I don't see why that might not be a possibility as of now considering OMNY accepts debit cards as a form of fare payment, Mastercard hopefully. Whether that will remain a good option considering the going rates on the Key card, remains to be seen. Totally support that idea however...
  5. ridership has been amping up lately and sometimes, even on non rush hour runs, the trains can be packed. It may have been good before as a 4 car set, but you can't sing a song with Barney The Purple Dinosaur to ignore that the will need at least some 8 car sets to handle higher rider numbers for gods sake.
  6. I have to agree with both of you as well, OMNY is a pretty simple and fitting name for the new payment method in place. I also love that new logo as well, with an almost concentric look to it!
  7. @Around the Horn Already made a thread on this above btw. But to summarize what I said on that thread, yeah, very excited to see it happen even as I remain concerned over how fare beating continues to plague the system rapidly.
  8. Days late on this, sorry about that, but I originally thought that this shuttle would run to Manhattan and terminate at some station like Whitehall, seeing that the Montague tunnel has to be used somehow. I'm no professional here, but I've looked at the proposal again and I now certainly agree with your point. Cutting the shuttle down to Brooklyn is a horrible idea, not even counting the "real problems" you mentioned into consideration. That said, route length certainly isn't and shouldn't be a main factor to solving this problem. However, it's important to make sure a line of long length is held down less by these problems of merges and timing/signaling/terminal ops. than small lines since a wider swath of riders and events pass through it day by day. I'm not on the boat of cutting service across the river since it addresses length and side notes other major problems you mentioned, when it should really be the other way around.
  9. This is definitely something that should be up for consideration, I don't know many riders using the line from Brooklyn to Queens (and vice versa) anyways. Why didn't we at least try something like this (not counting 2013-2014 Montague) years ago? Hopefully the catches on to this idea, they could be the biggest roadblock in these plans...
  10. The train definitely can hit 50, but I don't think it is average speed in general IIRC.
  11. Lovely to see them running those R179's at such high speeds, all along the line!
  12. This has already been exploited from before, it's easy to cheat a system out of the mid 90's in most circumstances. It doesn't even take a person with high education to cheat the system (clearly impacting on it's own), since there are so many other methods of doing it as mentioned before, that's it become too common among everybody. And the MTA's reasoning for convincing people to use the system is only getting smaller and smaller and smaller. Absolutely! This has been a horrendous issue on the as well and that line also runs R46's mainly. They are honestly fine trains for their time, but are less fitting to me now when I continue to catch them delayed, and dirty, run-down. Sadly, they will remain till' the R211 silently kills them, ending an old butterfly effect over the 's lack of testing new railcars thoroughly before they buy them...
  13. Sad that they’ve been doing this stuff for as long as many can remember, do these people have empathy for everybody else?
  14. @subwaycommuter1983 You can upload photos via the + Create option right next to your account at the top of the webpage. Click there to upload a gallery image. You can also upload your images to a hosting site, such as Flickr. Once you've logged in and uploaded photos (after making an account), copy and paste the URL code into your post.
  15. Technically yes it’s had NTT’s, but we haven’t had them on an occasional basis, and considering ridership on the only keeps getting higher, it’s much needed
  16. Crazy that that was more than 10 and nearly 30 years ago, respectively.
  17. It’s so clean and new for now! I love it. Also great video and shots, I like how you edited it.
  18. Let's not leave out @Vtrain or @qjtransitmaster (for the oldsters)...
  19. Exactly, (on a non-related note) I wish that railfans didn't have to get questioned by the police and T/O's so frequently every time they take photos, I was last week and would've gotten into more trouble if I didn't pull up the MTA rules on a whim. I wasn't really causing any problems to begin with, it's been happening for years as well.
  20. Besides teenagers to be fair, East New York usually ruins everything it touches anyways...
  21. Idk, if it takes years to fund a costly deck and engineer it for each specific highway, I'd say it'd be better to leave them alone for now. People should know what community they're buying into. Van Wyck and others are good candidates, but the practice should be advanced with time to bring down costs at the very least.
  22. I got into subway car design from the R142/R142A as well! Nice to see the train when it was brand new for sure.
  23. No, the R179 5 car set only has to go through burn-in. It is essentially the same train as the current 4 car set.
