  1. Good, much newer member here but I also enjoy NYCT as well. hows Philly btw?
  2. You're cutting service basically to a portion of a line and not providing back any service in return, the cut would give less service south and north of 34 and be a bottleneck at the terminal which reduces tph on the . The can still run express, but cutting the line makes it harder for the and other IRT lines to run.
  3. Supplemental lines are part of the backbone of the system, simply put. Running most lines without them would leave a lot on the plate for primary lines to take care of. The would need to terminate at the 's northern terminal occasionally to not lose service there, and the wouldn't be able to scale services very easily without them. If the IRT turns into a mess as it often does, less service could make troubles more likely. The current setup isn't completely optimal, though i wouldn't encourage cutting the by any means. Do you know any current ways to increase off peak service (on any line), by chance? what a troll 😒, reported.
  4. More specifically, R160's have shorter dwell times at stops, and break down less than the R46's. Newer trains on the crowded line prove to work better than old ones so a plurality remains R160s. The is also slated to get CBTC soon, any SMEE (like the 46's) simply wont work on the soon. The 46's last frequently ran on the in the late 2000's
  5. How ridiculous, seems like Catherine got a little too🧂 over the article... must've revealed a bit too much eh? In all seriousness though, complete props to @Via Garibaldi 8 and others like @Union Tpke who protest and find broken cracks like these in the system, cant give you people enough credit. MTA is putting customers at risk through quiet and quick nonsense like this. Catherine barely attempted to cover up the service concerns in the note, and the rushed effort obviously shows. The cuts so far seem to be intended to be sporadic and random where they slip by us at whim, so far it hasn't happened one bit...
  6. It's about getting the power and holding it, the people are rarely first priority in such a race. It's a shame to see people like Byford and such getting silenced for keeping up a good fight through this.
  7. (Naturally) I prefer paper since it never fails, but E-ink certainly isn't a bad idea either. As long as MTA employees have enclosed access to a power source on the E-ink, it would be cheaper long term and work just as well as paper. Given how the MTA works though it'd rather toss us no bone at all, or (as an ex.) give us a genius challenge that does nothing but cover up the no bone problem. The agency has little money to start with and the situation has only been getting worse sadly with corruption and a myriad of other issues. I truly am scared to see what future cuts are coming along. MTA currently hangs on a fragile string as is and this could be the start of potentially troubling times ahead.
  8. Honestly, the has many other problems beside dwell time, signal problems as you said and the south channel bridge for instance are big concerns as well. That said, dwell time is still pretty impactful on train service since longer times do add up. Even if this was short term (QBL lines have to be ntt soon with cbtc), R46's would still hurt the hard, the line gets more passengers than the already crowded which would amplify dwell (and bog down quicker service on the ). Removing R46's from the to go to the also cuts additional service, which doesn't make any of the 's issues any better either.
  9. R42s aren't limited to weekends only on the , they've been running during the week as well mostly through 2019. Quick reminder to not spam the (wrong) thread by posting the same thing 4 times...
  10. It's the same deal on the train for me. Similar to the , if something goes wrong on one part of the line (like the south channel bridge is open, or a delay happens on a merge), the whole lines delayed. Very annoying indeed
  11. I love how they wrote Beach 67 street - Gaston on the fast forward powerpoint... lol
  12. Get over your anger man, it’s very much expected to face hassles between getting over two distant parts of the city with lackluster services. Taking the and is still the most logical from my perspective as your ideas (from my view) likely won’t materialize, and the Q113/Q114 is more unreliable. As someone who rides the subways for more than an hour one way to get to work, bearing the ride from that far is usually key. otherwise you’ll never get to your destination at all, and may as well go somewhere closer.
  13. It might last on express buses where demand is kind of high for it, but on all other buses. I still think it's going the way of the dodo, it's costly, cosmetic and little used to begin with. This is the last thing the agency should focus on.
  14. Frankly, Howard Beach JFK would serve as a better short turn terminal. It balances service to both casino travelers and airport travelers, and serves more people.
  15. Yes, it was loosely mentioned at the end of this linked article. Personally, I support the idea since it increases peoples mobility to/from the casino. That said, a Rockaway bound platform would have to be engineered properly given the lack of size on the other side of the tracks (an overground passageway would also need to be built, retaining ADA also is something to consider here).
  16. @Uncle Floyd Fan Agreed, the overruns continually displayed on all levels of government here only tend to sink this project further into the rabbit hole and, overall, work against it's completion. By NY standards, this has already gotten really bad...
  17. I'll say most have seen someone they find attractive on subways, usually by their characteristics, most will never talk to them. I however haven't been in love with anybody on the subway, that's getting to know them for months. Most people on the subway here in the city tend to be reserved on the system as it is meant for travel. And I know some wouldn't want to even meet up with others on the subway, due to all the incidents going on lately of harassment. Finding love on the system happens, but most I know prefer doing it the conventional way, welcome!
  18. train cars and express buses aren’t based out of the same place. There’s good chance many will probably get fixed with some protest.
  19. This is devastating information to hear, hopefully this plan will be more of a pesky rumor. And much less reality, since the museum is really iconic of the modern MTA
  20. You can't. I'd presume you may be able to do so with help from mods (if you have a good reason), but knowing you and this "work" you do, I wouldn't waste anybody's time...
  21. Buses (especially artics) being forced to run along decrepit snake road in 2019 is almost criminal to me. A close cousin of mine has been stuck on the bus for as long as 2 and a half hours due to flooding from start to end, and in just one direction. I'd much rather have consistency on the line and this change is pretty good in terms of that, delays on the 113 and 114 should be mitigated to an extent and relieve some riders pains I've seen in Far Rock. As for people concerned over lost service on Brookville, I dont see a problem with riders changing from the 114 to 111, especially if it's for everyone's safety. Snake road is a disaster these days...
  22. As recently as early-mid June, yes they've popped up. Though not to a high degree (many days I've seen had none).
  23. The switch between interlining and deinterlining is pretty unusual, at least for most of these plans as it does cause confusion to have terminals switch on a large scale, biweekly basis. Running all services over the weekends is also a bit extra, especially if ridership losses serve as it's only justification.
  24. Certainly odd to say the least. Reminds me of how subway cars were vandalized with graffiti on a daily basis back in the 80's.
