EE Broadway Local Posted November 21, 2009 Share #26 Posted November 21, 2009 As for the station, the tunnel looks totally reconstructed just waiting for the construction to reach the level of the platform for full platforms to be opened. Stairs and elevator wells are there, no elevators in them, i guess they will come later as they build up to the street level. I'm reminded every time i see that how amazing it is that we could rebuild anything there. - A Beginning to look nice.
R32 3348 Posted November 21, 2009 Share #27 Posted November 21, 2009 That photo looks like it was taken right after 9/11.
metsfan Posted November 21, 2009 Share #28 Posted November 21, 2009 That photo looks like it was taken right after 9/11. It was. I believe it's on the opposite end from the pile of rubble that came through the ceiling, not sure at all. I know there's some serious damage just to the left of the photo, as you can see one of the vault supports buckled. Hard to imagine the forces at work that could crumple a wrought iron column like that. - A
mark1447 Posted November 21, 2009 Share #29 Posted November 21, 2009 Confused a bit. The t/a site says its opening on Monday the 23: Cortlandt St station, uptown Queens-bound service restored as of Monday, Nov 23. http://tripplanner.mta.info/NewTP/serviceAdvisories/ServiceAdvisoryAll.aspx But clicking to the page shows the 25th. So im guessing is the 25th not 23rd? And why at 3PM? A special opening like NSF?

R62A 1991 Posted November 24, 2009 Share #34 Posted November 24, 2009 I passed by the station today. It looks nice and ready to open. The southbound side has been completely boarded up to block any view of the construction. I'll be visiting on Black Friday.

Urbanfortitude Posted November 26, 2009 Share #37 Posted November 26, 2009 Wang and I were there for the first train. It was a . He has photos of the train car numbers. I tried to get pictures of the ribbon being cut but the senators went under and stood on the other end of it which blocked it completely from my view.
fishmech Posted November 26, 2009 Share #38 Posted November 26, 2009 I caught that first train too, I'll be uploading my (admittedly amateurish) pictures soon.
fishmech Posted November 26, 2009 Share #39 Posted November 26, 2009 Here we go: Ribbon cutting: Views across from the stairs going down: The closed southbound and open northbound sides: A gaggle of news reporters and government officials chatting it up in car 9050 on the first northbound W train through the station (which actually came around at 2:30 pm instead of the 3 PM all the mta signs had said:
