Horrible News. Reyes is the catalyst of the Mets. Cora/Tejada is a huge downgrade, same thing with Beltran being out for awhile this season. Pagan/Matthews..where and how is this Mets team going to score its runs? They hardly score whenever Santana pitches, what about the others "Maine,Perez,Pelfrey? do you believe those 3 underachievers can keep the Mets in the game like Santana does?

Locomotion. Without a healthy Reyes and even a speedy return from Beltran expect unfair or not for either Omar, Manuel or both to be fired by mid season. Not to mention imo, a long stay on injury reserve and any of the 'key' pitchers goes down and the Mets sad to say will be a last place team in NL East imo.:(

You mean the "pesky" Nats will have a better record than the Mets?

If it's anything like last year ('09)with Reyes, Beltran hurt most of the season and the pitchers have a terrible season then yes it's possible the Nats finishing in 4th place for first time since leaving Montreal imo. Right now i say the "mutts' lol 4th place but it go down in a hurry. No offense Met fans.:(

The Mets are going to have a good season this year, but it will start off bad. There's no doubt about that with Reyes out the lineup.

However, I predict they'll have a good year. They may have overdid it with the purchase of more catchers than they needed, I mean you got Omar Santos which is pretty good and Rod Barajas from the Blue Jays. Put one extra guy in from Triple A is somebody gets hurt, that's all you need. No need to put Omar into Triple A.

I like the combination of their infield and outfield.

Outfield - No doubt a pretty good one. Not sure about stability, but in terms of paper it looks good. Francoeur, who proved his worth, Beltran (key element in Mets organization), Bay (they didn't spend that much money on him for nothing) and all the other guys they got there. If one guy is injured, got plenty of people to fill them in. Not to mention the powerhouse of guys.

Infield, Reyes, Wright (hopefully plays better), Murphy (I like this guy), Castillo and the rest which aren't as good, but get the job done. Like Cora and Tatis.

Pitching, I like the new additions they have in their bullpen. Especially Ryoto who proved that he can pitch in spring training.

This is all speculation, and I'm more of a Yankees guy, but I can tell you that the Mets won't end up second to last again.

(K) train you listed the best possible scenrio for the Mets this season. They are among the hardest and most unpredictable teams to guess their success. I already listed the nightmare scenrio and I would not be surprised to see them finish as high as 2nd or dead last in the NL East.

As of this moment, the Royals are beating the Diamondbacks 21 - 4. Fomer Met Aaron Heilmann gave up 4 and 7 hits in one inning for the D - backs. Former Met Brian Bannister pitched four scoreless innings, allowing two hits, for the Royals. It is spring training, but it is still interesting.

Is that were he is? with the D-Backs, haha..they must have been really desperate for pitching. I like Bannister, the Mets got Burgos who was sent down to AAA in record time after making the 25 man roster in 2007.

Takahashi is having a great spring so far, he should make the team.

The Royals scoring 21 runs is embarrasing. Enough said.

As the fictional and immortal Cleveland Indians Manager Lou Brown said in oringal "Major League" the movie (rent it guys if you have not already seen it:tup:) when commenting on a Tribe pitching prospect not Rick "wild thing" Vaughan in spring trainning at start of movie, Mr. Brown would say "that kid will soon be back home bagging groceries" lol. Maybe some of those worse of D-Back 'prospect' starters will soon be cut and working at Wal-Mart lol.:);)

FYI. If the Royals imo could sign or find 1-2 real good power hitters imo they could contend at least for a wild card spot right now. Their have among the best young starters in MLB right now lead by Zack Greinke one of the top 5 starters in all of baseball today. Their offense is so bad that only reason they are at best a 75-80 win right now.

Who cares about the Royals in NYC? NOBODY

Not true Locomotion. When i was in middle school in mid/late 1980's I knew a classmate that was a big George Brett and Royals fan shortly after they won the 1985 World Series. Not sure about now in 2010 any KC Royals fans (other than transplants from the Midwest)in NYC.

That was then, this is now. You were talking about today's KC Royals. They are a joke. I followed that Royals team in the 80's, I used to imitate Brett's batting stance when I played softball as a kid. I still can't believe Quisenberry who was a great relief pitcher died of brain cancer in 1998, he was only 45, damm.

The Kansas City Royals were one of the better expansion teams and I remember 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980 the Yankees vs. the Royals. In 1985, I followed the Royals because of Mr. Dick Howser. That season, I was hoping for one more Yankees-Royals series and interested to see how Mr. Billy Martin might do against Mr. Dick Howser.

As Locomotion69 said the Royals this decade (2000-2009) have been horrible and last decade (1990-1999) was only a little better.

Funny, isn't it - four teams that were successful are terrible today - the Royals, Orioles, Pirates and Reds.

Make it 24, and they only hit 2 taters. (24 runs)that is what the Royals score in a week during the regular season.

Both Good news and some really bad news for the Twins. First the really bad. Relief Pitcher aka "Closer" Joe Nathan is gone for the 2010 season with shoulder problems and will get "Tommy john" surgey. Nathan is consiered one of the top 2-3 Closers in MLB right now and his loss is huge for the Twins. Many people have predicted them as the '2nd favorite' besides the Yanks to make the World Series from the American League this season.

The really good news for Minnesota is this. The club signed Catcher Joe Mauer and already the one of the most popular players in team history(besides Kent Herbek and Kirby Puckwet)to a long term contract that makes him the highest paid Catcher in MLB History. Here link.

Good, since I didn't want the Yankees to get him next year if he had become a free agent. Posada who will be 39 in August isn't going to be around much longer.

The Twinkies always finish strong towards the end of the season but fold like a cheap tent during the playoffs.

LMAO at the "twinkies' statement;). Sriously, It's true that the Twins always seem to make the playoffs every year for about 10 years now and lose in the 1st round. I think they have advance to the ALCS i think only once during that run, their only playoff series win since winning the 1991 world series.

Shifting gears. A question for any Yankee or MLB fan here? Should the Yanks place Joba Chamberlain as '5th Starter" or the 8th inning specialist and the replacement for future Hall of Famer Maraino Rivera?

Chamberlain and Phil Hughes are the finalists to be the 5th Starter for the regular season.

After his outstanding perfomerence in last year's playoffs Joba for rest of career should be a relief pitcher/future closer. What you guys think?
