Wal-Mart eyeing Brooklyn shopping center for it's first store in NYC

LIC desperately need some more development, so run-down.

I think you're thinking of Hunter's Point, not LIC. LIC is being developed as we speak. Just from looking at a small section of the area from the Queensboro Plaza station, you can see that they recently tore down the garage and built a giant new development to complement the two they just finished on Queens Plaza North. To the west of the station there's another vacant lot of land that's most likely going to be built on right after the economy recovers. The area is being drastically developed as we speak.

Actually, fordhamkid has a point. Why did the R160s go on the (E) first?
This is irrelevant to the topic at hand, but (E) crews were being trained on the R160s at the same time (F) crews were (a little later, in fact). However, the (E) has half as many crews that need to be trained as the (F) does. The (E) got the R160s first. Also, there wasn't any other choice of equipment the (E) could've gotten since back then all of the older 60-footers were to be retired, and the 75-foot cars were kept off the line.

Beside we have alot of pleases better then Walmart anyway and if you want your products from china you go Straight to the source ,chinatown.:P

Or any other 99 cent store across the country...

Nope, we don't need one at all. Only the few in the city proper that go to Wal-Mart on a regular basis would want one inside the city.

The thing is, though, that over 2.5 million people in the city shop at Wal-Mart. Just building one in the city would be very beneficial, especially if it were built in an area like LIC or Hunters Point.

Thank You. Why not bulid a Wal Mart in the '5' boros? You don't need it in every neighborhood at least 2-3 citywide that all. And, those against opening a store in NYC and whom for w/e reason don't like Wal Mart, as I say don't shop there, it's your choice.

Repeat after me:

If there was a need for a Walmart we would have had it already.

If there was a need for a Walmart we would have had it already.

If there was a need for a Walmart we would have had it already.

If there was a need for a Walmart we would have had it already.

It's 2010. We would have had a Walmart by 2005-6 (my guess) if we REALLY needed it.

I seriously don't understand why you people can't let this register....

And repeat it after me it was would have been bulit/open in NYC but was stopped because of the unions lining up with Democratics and stopping it igorning their wishes of majority of their voters.

Polls i read state majority of NYC want it somewhere in NYC. Plus 99 cent stores are no longer $1.00 on most of their products and in poorer neighborhhoods, a few are over priced that dirty and in some cases have rodents.

And Wal Mart is not just in rural areas? Every big city in US and Canada except for NYC now has at least '1' in it's city proper. Everywhere from LA to Dallas to Chicago, Boston and even in Canada's largest cities of Toronto and Montreal.

Explain that LRG as you only a 18 year old who has not traveled outside of NYC that much?

AND...because the company treats their employees like shit with their low-wages and shitty health benefits from working there. And try as they might, the idea will be shot down, again, and again, and again.

SO WHY NOT NYC??? It's been spoken to death already, let THOSE cities have a Walmart. If New Yorkers aren't in support of having one within their city limits, we aren't in support of it. We don't have to do every thing other cities do so it's a moot point. Done. End of story.

What makes you ASS-U-ME that I haven't been outside of NYC limits???

And those who claim wal mart killed mom & pop stores remember this! While it's true Wal Mart did put a nail in coffin for many of them, family owned and small stores was already on 'life support' years before the national/international expansion of Wal Mart in the 1980's/'90's.

It was created by Sears, K-Mart(before Sears & Kmart merged)and the mega shopping mall in the 1960's and '70's. That a historic fact not my opiopn.

At least Sears didn't condone low wages and shitty health benefits unlike a POS Walmart. Besides you don't even live in NYC limits so don't necessarily jump the gun and say what's better for US city residents because we can decide that on our own if needed.

Seriously. Get a grip.

Until you know how to actually have a conversation without posting crap like you just did (and always do) then I'm not going to bother replying to your posts.

KMart barely hire disabled, and Walmart hire tons of disabled people and pay them wages of a regular person, they do have a responsiblity to this world, better wages and easier job entrance for the disabled, greener products and more cleaner stores. Hey ShortLine Bus doesn't live in NYC and I live in NYC and I support every statement he say so watch your mouth!

In case you didn't know, Shortine Bus isn't aware of how difficult it is for things to become implemented in this city.

I will believe LRG haven't travelled out of NYC,

Um, why are you assuming that I haven't been out of NYC???

I've been to Connecticut, Florida and most recently New Jersey, as well as Texas (back in 2000) and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania (back in 2003 on a school trip). I wasn't even paying attention to the stores those cities had so please don't ask me if I saw Walmarts because I honestly don't remember.

Let's see LRG. I was a staff member for the Queens Ledger from 1998-2001, starting out as office worker and later promoted to Reporter. Majority of stories i covered were eith school board/education issues and covering community boards as NIMBY's were the big stars at those meetings. So i am not exactly 'clueless' on how new buildings and mega projects like department stores are approved.:( I only left NYC in 2005 mainly because i got priced out and could not afford to live there when my Parents 'retired' and moved to the San Diego area.

Not to get too off topic i only switched careers to the Teaching field because i could no longer afford to keep my dream up of becoming a TV News Reporter or Producer. And this issue of Wal Mart of coming to NYC can help working and poorer New Yorkers option on affordable products more than Conway's or any other box store from Target-K Mart etc.

I am sure the laws are similar as 10 years ago when i worked at that paper.

And thanks Megabus for your support for me.

You just answered your own statement...NYC will never have a Walmart because NIMBYs will just shoot it down no matter how many times it is brought up.

You tacitly implied that NYC residents aren't entitled to Walmart just because a select few oppose Walmart. A socialist society is a society in which the government controls the economic decisions of its denizens.

Does the few mean the government in this case? And what do you mean, BY FEW? Just because you and some people here on this forum and maybe a couple of thousands in the city that are addicted to Wal-Mart does not mean that the others who are opposed are "a few".

Replies in Red.

Well, you have the right of free society and business, Walmart picked location after location in NYC just a goal to control crowding at other Walmart locations around the NYC Metro Region.

No, you and MTR just does not get the message, because you both are NIMBYs that panick and worry like the City is going to end the day Walmart opens. NO!, NYC will continue like everyday, only Walmart's and Traffic's Patterns will change.

It is not but NYC typical NIMBYs just hate Walmart with a passion but with panick and worry that is caused by their problem of self displine.

Replys in cool blue!

Sorry, but you used it the WRONG WAY!!!

Just because you, and some other people on this forum and maybe some thousands of other people in the city want a Wal-Mart does not mean there aren't millions in the city proper that don't want a Wal-Mart. You want to call us NIMBYs right? Fine. If the city wants to build something that you and five million people do not want, or has a company do something that is totally unpopular, what are you going to say?

And besides, fix up your grammar and spelling before talking. Nobody's going to take you seriously.
