Fire One....

Recommended Posts

I guess I'm not sticking my neck out to far by saying that I suppose DM30's 403 & 407 are amongst the most dependable engines (which probably isn't saying much) since they were given that priority train's assignment.

Engines in the 400s are DE30's, engines in the 500's are DM30s.

One can find Cannonballs with DE's or DM's, but never both. It doesn't really matter about the reliability, there have been many cases where the Cannonball broke down. The only factor is that whatever pair is chosen must be able to handle the 12-car train, the only diesel revenue train of that length on the LIRR. Most double-engined sets are 6 or 8 cars.
