Bracamonte Posted June 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 28, 2010 I've noticed today on the Queens Blvd Line and the recent that the R160's automated announcements were not working and the conductor had to do the announcements. Does this have something to do with the recent service changes?
LRG Posted June 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2010 I've noticed today on the Queens Blvd Line and the recent that the R160's automated announcements were not working and the conductor had to do the announcements. Does this have something to do with the recent service changes? Probably because the R160s aren't programmed for the new yet.
Bracamonte Posted June 28, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted June 28, 2010 Forgot to add this but only the automated announcements on the R160 train were working.

2 Train Master Posted June 28, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 28, 2010 The Orange is programmed like said already. But on the train the conductors had to make manual announcements from 2nd Av to 71 Av-Forest Hills and after that the automated announcements were played to Jamaica-179th St.That's b\c there is no transfer to the it's still .I'm unsure about the ,but the Orange is programmed with R160's. iGeMiNix Posted June 28, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 28, 2010 Oh interesting, I just assumed the had it since the LCD showed the regular stuff. So it is Jamaica's job to program them in right?
geoking66 Posted June 28, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 28, 2010 Sunday was a mixed bag. I took the to and from Park Slope and to there it was conductor announcements and back it was automated. Can't say on the because it wasn't running in Manhattan then. Once the entire network is R142+, I wonder how they'll manage these more efficiently. Grand Concourse Posted June 28, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 28, 2010 A memo went out that train on the and lines are to make manuel anouncments untill instructed otherwise. That's great news for those that want to get to point b sooner compared to the long dragged out automated announcements.
iGeMiNix Posted June 28, 2010 Share #12 Posted June 28, 2010 That's great news for those that want to get to point b sooner compared to the long dragged out automated announcements. Yeah, it is. But some of them just don't make announcements and you see tourist going WTF?
R62A 1991 Posted June 28, 2010 Share #13 Posted June 28, 2010 The C/R I had today on the at first didn't realize he had to make annoucnements, or so he said. He made them, but they weren't that clear. Regardless, it was a change. I wonder if they'd let them turn on the AAS after the point where there are no errors in it currently (i.e. 7th Av-53rd St for SB trains, minus W 4th since the stops there too). Art Vandelay Posted June 28, 2010 Share #14 Posted June 28, 2010 Jamaica trains have not yet been reprogrammed. ENY and Coney Island trains have been.
MTR Admiralty Posted June 28, 2010 Share #15 Posted June 28, 2010 Why? Some trains aren't programmed. It's most likely insurance so that people don't find a on the FIND.
iGeMiNix Posted June 29, 2010 Share #16 Posted June 29, 2010 Jamaica trains have not yet been reprogrammed. ENY and Coney Island trains have been. That really just gives another reason for Jamaica having a not so great rep.

Art Vandelay Posted June 29, 2010 Share #19 Posted June 29, 2010 The R160s from Jamaica not being updated was not accidental. It was purposeful.
Guest lance25 Posted June 29, 2010 Share #20 Posted June 29, 2010 Why? What would they gain by not programming the new announcements? All it looks like it does is make the conductors have to make the announcements, which as we all know, sounds like the adults from Charlie Brown. West End Posted June 29, 2010 Share #21 Posted June 29, 2010 The R160 I was on earlier today was automated and used the FIND display. Everytime a transfer to the was announced, the conductor said, "Er, ." P.S. The R142's need to change their announcements as well.
Princelex Posted June 29, 2010 Share #22 Posted June 29, 2010 The R160s from Jamaica not being updated was not accidental. It was purposeful. Why would they do that? That's not a good look for Jamaica.

Sam Posted June 29, 2010 Share #25 Posted June 29, 2010 The I rode on last night had manual announcements and it was wonderful. I'm really tired of the canned announcements. The conductor was excellent: a loud, clear voice and noted things of interest about the stops we made. I wonder if conductors are allowed to turn off the automated announcements if they prefer to make them themselves.
