I thought about that too, but the 8600's, are identical to the 1994 PBL TMC's, except for the seats being painted blue instead of red, and the walls being blue instead of faux wood paneling. It was all the same order, I believe, and with that unique interior lighting cover.

Amost all of the former PBL depots still have some of those, but they are now the oldest original private buses left, so it would be an even exchange basically. I guess they deem the NYCT buses to be in better condition, so maybe they could. But perhaps not, as it seems they have skipped over those to the 9300's as the next to go to MTAB. So all across the board, the '94 stuff would be the next to go out with the '95-96 Novas right behind them.

They're actually quite different: The PBLs have newer destination signs, emergency lights next to the destination sign, a different window frame, and vents on each side next to the end of the windows instead of just one on NYCT's.

Plus the back is a little different

Well, those are cosmetic (though I thought I remembered NYCT having the same kind of signs on theirs). It's still essentially the same model, and now one of the oldest.

You talking about this model?

IIRC only a few NYCT buses have the vents on the left side. And I think the PBL buses and the NYCT buses have the same kind of sign. The NYCT buses have the emergency lights, not the PBLs.

The 8600 yes, and I believe the 9700 as well. (I wish they had adopted my renumbering scheme, which preserved the original last three numbers from the PBL's. This was done with the 8568ff range and a couple others. For the rest, I have no idea what was originally what anymore. But these are probably the only RTS's left from the PBL's. The Methanol and CNG's are gone, right?)

The 8500, as trainfan said, was from the end of the 1993 order. It was the first MTA Series 50 bus and 8567 was a test with natural gas, or some other fuel. I had wondered then if it would be like the 8600's, but it does not have that unique lighting (as you can barely make out in the first picture). And yes, those two got the offside vent as well, but none of the others had that.

Okay I don't know if anyone's posted this but 8516 or 8518 (I couldn't catch the exact number) was on the Q23 today. Heading towards East Elmhurst; spotted at the Continental Av station at around 6:30 PM.
