On Sunday, August 29, we're adding more train service to our Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines. Off-peak fares will remain in effect.

The increase will bring our full weekday service to 82% of the pre-pandemic schedule. It will also feature a return to full weekend service on all three lines, something to celebrate just in time for weekend excursions and leaf-peeping season.  Additionally, direct service between Grand Central Terminal and Wassaic, and between GCT and New Canaan resumes.

On the Hudson Line
25 additional trains, with 142 weekday trains
On the Harlem Line
37 additional trains, with 189 weekday trains

On the New Haven Line
40 additional trains, with 246 weekday trains

Starting Monday, Aug. 30, ferry service to meet peak AM and PM trains on the Hudson line between Haverstraw and Ossining, and Newburgh and Beacon resumes.

Due to ongoing extensive renovations and upgrades in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), the Waterbury Branch will continue to offer substitute busing through September. Please check back for opening updates as work progresses.

Very excited to see the return of some semi-express AM/PM runs--my current inbound/outbound trips resemble pre-pandemic volume. I do expect most of the new trips to run light until Oct.

LIRR is suspending all service east of Patchogue on the Montauk Branch, and Ronkonkoma on the Ronkonkoma Branch due to hurricane Henri. MNRR is suspending the entire New Haven Line (and it's branches), as well as service north of Southeast on the Harlem Line. Service will be bi-hourly on the Hudson and Harlem Lines. No advisories to West-of-Hudson services as of right now. It's likely that the Harlem and Hudson Lines will operate all local tomorrow (timetable for tomorrow is yet to be seen).

Long Island Rail Road service changes

The LIRR will proactively suspend service tonight on the Montauk Branch (east of Patchogue), and between Ronkonkoma and Greenport. On Sunday, August 22, passenger train service will not resume until we have checked our infrastructure and determined that it is safe to do so.

The final trains to run before service between those stations is suspended are as follows:

Eastbound:

  • 12:10 p.m. from Jamaica, arriving at Montauk at 2:53 p.m.
  • 6:50 p.m. from Ronkonkoma, arriving at Greenport at 8:15 p.m.
  • 7:41 p.m. from Jamaica, arriving at Speonk at 9:15 p.m.

Westbound:

  • 7:37 p.m. from Montauk, arriving at Jamaica at 10:26 p.m.
  • 9:03 p.m. from Greenport, arriving at Ronkonkoma at 10:26 p.m.
  • 11:57 p.m. from Speonk, arriving at Jamaica at 1:39 a.m.

For more detailed information, check the LIRR TrainTime app (iOS, Android), or @LIRR on Twitter.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

On Sunday, August 22, Metro-North will suspend service on the Wassaic Branch of the Harlem Line and on the entire New Haven Line, including the New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury Branches. Service will operate every two hours on the Hudson and Harlem Lines, and there will be no buses on the Waterbury branch.

For more information on changes to specific trains, please click this link. And don't forget to check the status of your train before you head out.

Trains are being held all the way past White Plains heading away from the incident at Melrose.

Man, I'm starting to think centralizing train operations in one location is a bad idea. First the NYCT RCC signal communications shuts down the entire IRT, now Metro-North can't localize a power cut because everything's centralized in GCT.

I'm not getting the sense that the hold is a result of Central Power Control, which can isolate power this can also be done by the OSSIC in the field. The scale indicates a hard to reach location or a very gruesome scene.

This was a 3 hour delay for brother travelling to Croton Falls. Then he drove home to  Danbury. Probably saw sunrise.

Hudson Line is going to open on Tuesday with limited service, according to MTA website. Diesel test trains have been running on different tracks to check out the system. A CSX freight came through which means that at least one track is open from Poughkeepsie.

^^^^ Wow, never seen a commuter railroad have so many service outages requiring shuttle buses. I hope they use MTA buses for equipment. Years ago they used to use NYCT/MTA bus for equipment but it seems like they don't do that in recent years unless it's an unplanned emergency.

Lol at Hempstead trains being rerouted to Mineola, that is so NYC Subway like!

There's currently a broken rail near Jamaica making all Hempstead Branch trains from Mineola operate express from Floral Park to Jamaica (since 10 AM this morning). So that means that the shuttle bus between Queens Village and Bellerose will not connect to any westbound train (unless they extend it to Jamaica).

They're cross-honoring tickets solely on the Q36 bus (which doesn't serve Floral Park Hollis, or Jamaica stations), so those who use the train to/from Bellerose, Queens Village, and Hollis have it a bit rough right now.

Planned Work

Trains run every 2 hours, bypass Hicksville and Bethpage, and take up to an hour longer than normal

Jan 29 - 31 and Feb 5 - 7, Sat 12:15 AM to Mon 3:15 AM

Bi-level diesel trains will run every two hours between Penn Station and Ronkonkoma while we test signals near Carle Place as part of the LIRR Expansion Project. Between Jamaica and Farmingdale, they will travel via Babylon and will change directions twice, but not make any station stops. This means that your trip will take up to an hour longer than normal.

If you typically use Bethpage, or travel between Hicksville and points east of Farmingdale, a bus will run between Mineola, Hicksville, Bethpage, and Farmingdale.

The last normal trains to operate are the 11:14 PM from Penn Station and the 11:16 PM from Ronkonkoma on Friday night. Service resumes with the 3:15 AM from Penn Station and 4:06 AM from Ronkonkoma on Monday morning.

If possible, consider using the Babylon or Montauk Branches. Detailed schedule information will be available as the work approaches.

The work has been cancelled for this upcoming weekend due to the winter storm coming our way, although it is still on for the next one. It's unknown if they will try to expedite everything into that one weekend, or if the work altogether will be delayed by one week because of this. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
