ttcsubwayfan Posted June 22, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2019 Surprised that they're not going to last as long as the older R62s. Surely the life of a garbage train must be really lightweight compared to revenue service rolling stock?
QM1to6Ave Posted June 23, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 23, 2019 Wow, almost 1 million dollars for each glorified rolling trash bin
Connie Posted July 14, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2019 I'd assume that for the trash boxmotors they have to deal with more abuse and uncoupling - R62s stay in sets, while R127/R134 units decouple. This brings about the (honestly funny) possibility of R33 trash motors outlasting dedicated trash motors.
Lawrence St Posted July 14, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2019 But what's the point? Soon the R62 and R62A will retire so use those instead of building new R127's.

The R62s and R62A’s are still in revenue service. They are not to retire for at least another 10 years.
TheNewYorkElevated Posted July 15, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 15, 2019 Does this mean they're getting new refuse trains like the R127/R134 or are they just simply getting rid of the refuse train altogether?
Connie Posted July 15, 2019 Share #8 Posted July 15, 2019 They said they'd replace EP units and Flat Cars at the same time - not getting rid of trash trains. I think that the R62s will replace some trash units (Namely C Div R33s) but they'll be aging, too, and won't be fully phased out for decades.
MHV9218 Posted July 15, 2019 Share #9 Posted July 15, 2019 Am I misreading this? This seems to suggest the R127/R134s remain in service, while new flat cars replace the old flat cars–and that part of the problem is maintaining compatibility with the existing 127s/134s.
Connie Posted July 16, 2019 Share #10 Posted July 16, 2019 Look at "What Is Being Done"- the garbage flat procurement is being delayed until new EP units can be bought
