N-Trizzy2609 11 Posted November 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2008 Got this model from Island Modelworks as a kit. It came unpainted but highly detailed. Now It's R160B 8972 and it's on a run. First Painted Silver: This Finished Product: "This is the Manhattan Bound Local Train. The next stop is: Church Avenue." INDman 414 Posted November 11, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 11, 2008 Very cool looking. One thing though, I don't think spray paint is the best way to paint models. Very cool, I have been thinking about getting an R44 shell that a model company is selling on ebay. They also have R16s and R27/30s and trolleys. Do you mind if I ask how much that little number runs for?
N-Trizzy2609 11 Posted November 11, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted November 11, 2008 This was about a good $55 wif a complementary decal sheet that i got at show which is $6 online. Paint is $15, so that's $

SubwayGuy 2,321 Posted November 11, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 11, 2008 Yeah that's why the modeling hobby gets so expensive for yours truly...I work in HO scale and that is a lot of small parts and I don't have the precision skills to work with tiny parts (that's what she said ), and it's difficult to do the work with the kits myself. Plus I like my sets powered (have one motor car in the set), so that gets expensive quick...
INDman 414 Posted November 11, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 11, 2008 Ok the bug got to me so I ordered an R44/46 shell. It's HO and unpainted with no trucks, I'll have to add pic here when I get it around the end of the week.
Radioguy 2 Posted November 11, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 11, 2008 I wish they sold powered HO sets of these at the Museum or even Toys 'R Us. I'd buy one. Can you snap a picture of the rollsign decals? The description on the website (IIRC) showed the wrong font being used. I hope they fixed that before they shipped. Cyberider 66 Posted November 11, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 11, 2008 Nice looking model, it looks better than the real thing. I do it on the cheap and easy with Proto 1000 R-17's I got on closeout.
