With what money??? Are they just restoring to a pre-pandemic level or is this a service INCREASE at the expense of the other agencies (namely, NYC Transit) when LIRR ridership is way wayyy down?

All 11 branches going to GC, plus more track space will be opened over there and at Penn.

Hopefully the worker shortage is reduced by then. Otherwise expect more cancellations.

The other thing is that a lot of these "new trains" are the Atlantic Terminal shuttles. Whether its a 20 minute trip from Jamaica to Atlantic Terminal, or a 2 hour trip from Port Jefferson to Penn Station or Hunterspoint Avenue, it still counts as one train.

Reverse-peak increases are probably deadhead trips that will will now carry passengers.

Some of the midday increases are probably long meal breaks that are now filled in with work.

For West Hempstead on weekends, anything is better than a 15-minute shuttle on a 2-hour headway.

A couple of updates: Port Washington will keep a few of their express trains

https://www.nysenate.gov/newsroom/in-the-news/anna-m-kaplan/express-service-remain-along-lirrs-port-washington-branch

https://new.mta.info/press-release/lirr-announces-six-express-trains-included-port-washington-branch-revised-grand

And the third track is officially open for business (unfortunately, it looks like the extra reverse-peak service won't be added until ESA opens in December)

Which branches/trains are using the Middle track? Ronkonkoma Trains which skip Mineola? Diesel trains to Babylon/Speonk/Montauk? Late Night freight trains?

...plus some of the diesels to Port Jeff.

But yeah, the answer to your question is all of the above.
