Eastman346 0 Posted November 2, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2007 This morning I saw an R46 R train with the cab end painted in a flat gray or silver to look like the normal stainless steel color. I never seen this before. Did they always do that?
R1Toasty 0 Posted November 2, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 2, 2007 From what I can tell (pix would be nice), they're always like that, just not shiny like the rest of the car.
DOB2RTO 29 Posted November 2, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2007 I think the new heads are trying to make the system and the rolling stock (trains and buses) look more appealing. Alot of things went to hell under the old administration, even though some good projects were underway during their tenure. Glad KALIKOW is gone! sebbieprops 0 Posted November 4, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 4, 2007 I didn't even know Kalikow was gone. Did he resign?
Harry 1,088 Posted November 4, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 4, 2007 I didn't even know Kalikow was gone. Did he resign? Elliot "Lee" Sander was appointed by Gov. Elliot Spitzer to head the MTA. He's been head of the MTA for a while now.
DOB2RTO 29 Posted November 4, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 4, 2007 Elliot "Lee" Sander was appointed by Gov. Elliot Spitzer to head the MTA. He's been head of the MTA for a while now. Actually Sanders is the CEO and Executive Director. He was under Kalikow (sort of), even though Kalikow basically had no more power. Kalikow was still the Chairman, when Sanders was appointed. Now a new chairman was just appointed, by Spitzer. His name is H. Dale Hemmerdinger.

R32 3348 11 Posted November 10, 2007 Share #10 Posted November 10, 2007 This morning I saw an R46 R train with the cab end painted in a flat gray or silver to look like the normal stainless steel color. I never seen this before. Did they always do that? This is true; I saw an R46 R train having the new coat of paint. It looks nice. They're also doing this with the Corona R62A, but not many of them have been painted yet. I also recall seeing the gate thing on the R32(if you will) being painted. This was only on one car though. Didn't catch the number.

Pablo M 201 35 Posted November 11, 2007 Share #14 Posted November 11, 2007 I haven't seen many of the R46s that had ends repainted but like one or two. I've seen a select number of R32s, R44s, and R62/As with ends repainted.

Eastman346 0 Posted November 16, 2007 Author Share #19 Posted November 16, 2007 The Mta is using a new Stainless Steel paint on the back of the cabs So thats what they are doing. I thought those surfaces were washable. any dirt or grafitti would just wash right off.

That is true but they also used the paint to prevent rusting on the cabs . See for yourself http://www.steel-it.com/
