  1. I got caught up in this one, someone got struck at 42nd Street on the Broadway Line. Our train, which was the first train in 40 minutes, was running local to fill a gap in local service when we got held at 28th Street. No trains between 14th and 57th Streets according to station announcements: Delays There is limited train service in Manhattan and Queens. What's Happening? Emergency teams are responding to a person who was struck by a train at Times Sq-42 St. Expect delays on trains in both directions. Alternatives: For service between Queens and Manhattan, consider trains. For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, consider trains. For service in Manhattan, consider trains. Planned Work Reminder: trains run in both directions via the between Lexington Av/63 St and 57 St-7 Av, via the to/from 36 St (Brooklyn) and via the to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av for fastrack maintenance. 2. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with the turnaround scenario for the 107 (and I can kinda see why), altogether yeah they need to rethink that setup. I guess the general consensus here is that having the 42/101/107 routed as is, is excessive. I guess where the difference lies is on how to deal with that. Personally I think the southern Mount Vernon to Bronx demand (and vice versa) should be dealt with one route, which I would do so with the 101. Understandably some sections further north from Sandford may not be walkable to/from the 101, which is where I could see the 107 come in. Ridership within Mount Vernon I see the 42 doing a better job of handling, and that's without considering the contrast of service levels between the two routes. Overall, while I get what you're saying with the 107 my concern is that it becomes a route suitable for select bases which may not be sufficient enough. It also does not seem like they want to dedicate too many resources on the thing, with it not even running on Sundays. To answer the questions: 1] It was really more because there's no proposed 53 service in this plan on weekends. So naturally to have headways which are somewhat reasonable to deal with, it would need a bigger share of the distribution of resources. I consider 30 minute headways to be the limit of what's considered "somewhat reasonable". I don't see the 53 needing more than that on weekends, no matter how it would be changed. 2a] I was referring to ridership on the 42 south/east of Mount Vernon. Not necessarily from New Rochelle, but predominantly from within Mount Vernon (after the proposed 42 and 101 split ways). 2b] I would probably consider either or, but from what it looks like, from it being a realistic option, it cannot be both. To make it a little more clear, I was thinking of having something that covers subway riders along 3rd Street and South Fulton Ave, while covering the demand to/from Downtown Mount Vernon. Giving it some thought, I've thought of doing the following: Option 1: 53: Wakefield - 241st Street station to Parkway Plaza in Chester Heights or North & 5th Aves in New Rochelle. - Operates via 3rd Street, Fifth Avenue, and Pelhamdale Ave/New Rochelle Road (to Parkway Plaza) or Mayflower Ave (to New Rochelle) - Between Fulton and Columbus Aves, buses would operate via 4th/5th Streets 42: Petrillo Plaza to Sandford & Columbus (with potential extension to Pelham Manor Shopping Center via Columbus Ave and Pelham Parkway). Option 2: 53: Petrillo Plaza to Parkway Plaza, via existing route 42 down to Colonial Ave & Wolfs Lane, then up Wolfs Lane / Fifth Ave / Pelhamdale Ave/ New Rochelle Road (to Parkway Plaza): 51: Wakefield - 241st Street station to Pelham MNRR Station - Operates via 3rd Street & Fifth Avenue - Between Fulton and Columbus Aves, buses would operate via 4th/5th Streets
  3. Part Suspended There are no trains running between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 57 St-7 Av. There are no southbound trains running from Queens Plaza to 5 Av/59 St. The last stop on northbound trains will be 57 St-7 Av or 96 St on the . Some southbound trains are running on the line from 36 St to 34 St-Herald Sq, then along the line to DeKalb Av. Some southbound trains are running on the line from 36 St to Lexington Av/63 St, then along the line to 57 St-7 Av. FDNY is investigating a report of smoke near Lexington Av/59 St. Take the trains as an alternative. Posted: 05/22/2023 12:40 PM Not Mentioned: Southbound trains only are running via 63rd Street to either 6th Avenue or Broadway. Northbound trains are now running via 6th Avenue and 53rd Street. Some northbound trains are running via the from Bergen Street to Court Square, then over the to Roosevelt Avenue.
  4. Yeah, another Peekskill route through Yorktown Heights would be excessive. Worst case scenario, I would go with having the proposed 19 (from the first draft) branch off to have a Yorktown Heights branch. The 19 Yorktown Heights branch would also hit the intermediate points riders using the 15 generally get off (north of the Grasslands Area & White Plains). Plus it would restore the connection between Yorktown Heights and Mount Kisco eliminated with the 12. It would make the 19 more useful than what they did to it in this new proposal (SMH at the truncation to Chappaqua). I generally thought there should be some Northern Westchester - White Plains link, and I've had several concepts for them but never really definitively thought of one. I have it going to Peekskill RR since the runtime wouldn't require any additional resources, and in the process getting whatever amount of riders from Metro North trains. So on top of being a White Plains area express/commuter route, it would also be a Metro-North feeder route at no added cost. Using the existing route 15 timetable and estimating runtimes via the Taconic based on google maps estimate (+some extra cushion), having buses express between WMC and Yorktown Heights would save at the very least 20 minutes, in most cases around 25 minutes. The new runtime between White Plains and Peekskill would still be 90 minutes or greater, meaning the three hour cycle previously alluded to cannot be done. Four buses would be needed, and the Peekskill RR extension would add some runtime but still allow enough recovery time. As far as your proposed 17, would this route run similar in service levels to today's 17? Also given this proposal I would presume you would have the 14 running via Verplanck? For the latter I can agree with that (while also getting rid of that Verplanck Microtransit zone). Verplanck is walkable by suburban standards, you can usually make your way to the 14 in that area fairly easily, even if the bus doesn't run directly on your street. That microtransit zone is one of the several pointless ones in this plan. The 15 would. Headed north it gets off the Taconic at Underhill to then go into the commercial part of Yorktown Heights, and headed south it would take Underhill from commerical Yorktown Heights to the Taconic. With respect to the 101, on top of what is being mentioned, what also irks me is the 101/107 overlap, and on top of that the decision to serve different subway stations (107 to 233rd Street, 101 to Nereid Avenue). This makes it annoying for riders coming off trains to the bus. I personally don't see the need for two buses to the on White Plains Road from points along Sandford Boulevard, especially the way they have it there. Given that the 53 was brought up, I'm wondering if there is some way to restructure the 53 where you can gut both the 42 and the 107. That way the resources on those routes can be divided up between the 53 and 101, with a greater share on weekdays going to the 101 (and more to the 53 on weekends). So basically an iteration of the route which goes to Mount Vernon and covers where most of the existing 42 demand would come from, to/from Mount Vernon in particular (to/from its current south).
  5. For the next two nights there will be no eastbound train service at Elmont. Planned - Stations Skipped Eastbound trains skip Elmont-UBS Arena May 17 - 19, Wed to Fri, 11:30 PM to 3:30 AM Use the nearby Bellerose station instead. What's happening? Urgent track repairs Posted: 05/16/2023 09:13 AM
  6. Regarding a Northern Westchester - White Plains link, what I had in mind was to have a proposed 15 be the bus that consolidates parts of the existing 10, 15, 17, and 77 together. The route would begin at Peekskill RR Station, then operate along the existing 17 to Cortlandt Town Center, then follow the 15 to Underhill Ave & Saw Mill River Road (NYS 118), then take Underhill to the Taconic State Parkway. From there it would run express via the Taconic to WMC, then serve WCC, and from there maybe take the existing 15 route to/from White Plains. Or it can do an express version of the proposed 104 in the first draft, basically to Valhalla RR Station, then express via the Bronx River Parkway to White Plains (if permissible). I think a runtime for such a route can be done in less than 90 minutes, so it can run hourly during off peak hours with a cycle time of 3 hours. During rush hours it would run every 30 minutes. I would run it daily. Based on the original plan, I would use whatever resources they're spending on the 104 to run the combined route (I would call that the 15, because it resembles the 15 the most). I don't remember how many buses they needed for the 104 but it definitely was more than three. Such a route would cover most existing 17 riders, 15 riders up in Northern Westchester, and the 77 as well. Also FWIW, for route 10 riders White Plains might be a more convenient connection (and might save them both time and money). In the process, also being much more frequent than any of them.

  8. Haven't seen DeKalb in a while: Some Reroutes Some southbound: trains run via from Canal St to DeKalb Av. trains run via from Broadway-Lafayette St to Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Southbound and trains are delayed due to a signal malfunction near DeKalb Av. Additional Service Changes: Some southbound trains run via the line from DeKalb Av to 36 St then via the to Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Posted: 05/11/2023 08:21 PM
  9. So basically, they cut the service to/from Brooklyn to every 30 minutes, like it used to be, LOL. Knowing them, at some point they might end up having two 10-car sets for the bunched up trains , and then have an 8-car train for the interval with only one train.
  10. They've seemed to have done relatively few changes, and in some cases made things worse. So they expanded the Peekskill area microtransit to Verplank and Buchanan, while maintaining the 14 out of that area like in the previous draft. In the White Plains area, they've appeared to combine the eastern portion of the 104 with the their suggested proposed 14 (Grasslands to Peekskill). Now in this new draft, they extended the 15 from Yorktown Heights to Katonah, which I guess is somewhat better than what it was previously (but that's not saying much). They still don't have any fixed route directly serving Hudson Valley Hospital. In the process of all that, they're cutting the 19 between Katonah and Chappaqua, when they co-existed together in the previous draft. Seemingly for the sake of further justifying the microtransit zone in that area. The only other major route changes that stand out, is that route 53 was changed in this updated plan. The 101 will also now connect to the Nereid Avenue subway station and will not go up to 241st Street. Service wise I see that it's more or less the same, with some changes like the 20 no longer having a service cut in the evening (it will apparently have the same span it currently has more or less). Personally I think they dropped the ball here, especially with Northern Westchester. They went too far with straight up eliminating routes and just leaving them with microtransit zones. It's one thing to add a microtransit zone to complement a service area, it's a whole nother thing to replace a bunch of routes with them. The current way they're attempting to place and justify their microtransit zones I'm not onboard with.
  11. Yeah, I've been having this same issue for a hot minute now. Sometimes as we're boarding, the person in front of me will dip and the machine will take like close to 10 seconds before it spots the card out, and then I put mine in and then two seconds later spits it out with a "READ ERROR". I think many B/Os already know and they'll just tell you that's it's alright, but some will tell you to try again, or even feel some type of way after several tries (they do let me on though). Like what am I supposed to do? On the flip side, the card works normally whenever I swipe at the subway turnstiles.
  12. The QBL is back at it again. I knew something like this was coming since yesterday and earlier this morning, the trains were taking longer through 36 Street than usual. Trains Rerouted Major delays. Limited in Manhattan and Queens. No between Delancey St-Essex St and Forest Hills-71 Av. Take , LIRR or local buses. What's Happening? We're addressing a network communications problem near 36 St. Detailed Service Changes To alleviate congestion between Manhattan and Queens, the following service changes are in effect: trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Chambers St in both directions. There are no trains running between Forest Hills-71 Av and Delancey St-Essex St in both directions. Some northbound trains are running on the line from Bergen St to Court Sq-23 St, then along the line to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av. Listen for onboard announcements to hear if your train will be rerouted. Alternatives LIRR will cross-honor MetroCard holders at no additional cost between: Penn Station and Jamaica Grand Central Madison and Jamaica Take Q60 buses between Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Grand Av-Newtown. These buses connect to service at 46 St-Bliss St and Queensboro Plaza. Posted: 04/28/2023 09:22 AM
  13. I'll believe it when I see it. I take the Q47 a lot and the Q29 as well so I see this play out pretty often, which has been the case for a hot minute now (and pretty recently too). I report virtually all of them when I see it too, so I know what I'm saying when it comes to these broken/inaccurate trackers. Some of them stop working mid route, and never are seen again on bustime.
  14. It definitely seems like a lot more than those, there's been other buses that I've seen without the trackers, or trackers that malfunction and/or are spotty. Perhaps some of those may have been fixed since then, but that's still way too many buses without working trackers. With how infrequent off-peak service is on a number of LGA lines coupled with the lack of communication whenever runs are not filled, who knows what the actual case is.
  15. Interesting, gonna have to see it for myself whenever I get the chance. I did see a massive gap on the Q88 earlier on bustime. Thankfully I don't have to deal with any of those routes on a daily basis, or else that would just make things bonkers. Unfortunately in my part of the borough there's too many ghost buses, it seems that LGA hasn't properly set up the trackers on the Orion VII NGs they got from other areas (mainly The Bronx).
  16. The NYC Half Marathon was held last month, creating a large set of detours between Midtown and the Upper East Side. The route takes 42nd Street & 7th Avenue through Midtown, which makes through service impossible. As a result, everything east of 8th Avenue was rerouted onto 9th/10th Avenues between 34th & 81st Streets. Buses took the 79th Street Transverse to/from the east side. Makes for a bunch of unique sightings. The Q32 is typically rerouted via 65/66th Streets through Central Park, but to my surprise it was routed up to 79th Street (into 81st Street). 17. https://transbridgelines.com/trans-bridge-lines-to-begin-reservations-april-3 Trans-Bridge will start moving to a reservation only system starting April 3rd, when all riders on the Doylestown/Flemington route will be required to book reservations for the specific bus which they seek to board. Under the current system, riders can buy a mobile ticket or through an NJT ticket window at PABT. The tickets are valid can be used on any one bus at any time within 6 months of purchase. New Reservation System With the new system, riders would have to buy an online reservation for the exact date and time to guarantee a spot on the bus. If plans change, you have a certain amount of time to change your reservation to a later date. The time limit is 30 minutes before bus departure for one-way and round-trip tickets, and 16 hours for commuter passes. Otherwise, the reservation becomes null and void and you lose your money. If you fall under any of the following: Have a reservation for a different (later) trip Do not have any reservation and want to buy a ticket for the next bus out Have a ticket bought from an NJT ticket window Intend on paying with cash You will be classified as a standby rider. Standby riders will not be allowed on the bus until every rider with a reservation is let on first, and then let on if space is available, starting at five minutes from departure time. This means that a person with a reservation could potentially lose out on a seat if they are running late and make it just in time for departure, so all riders with reservation need to get to the stop at least five minutes from departure. -------------------------- While the new reservation system will be in place on the Doylestown route for now, it will expand to the Clinton/Allentown route, Newark Airport service, and Wall Street service in the eventual future. Thoughts on this?
  18. Ironically enough regarding this whole situation, they're discontinuing commuter service and eliminating all these lines on Good Friday. Oops! The only thing I can see NJT doing route-wise without actually extending or creating new routes for now, is to gut the boarding restrictions through Nutley and Lyndhurst on the 192/199 and adding stops along the way. Otherwise, you'd be left with a situation where some sections in those areas get only off-peak service not no peak direction service. That would also mean that the 199 would effectively be a 192, eliminating the need for that number.
  19. Also, Q92 is the late night shuttle in Manhattan between Times Square and Hudson Yards.
  20. This makes even less sense. Who does this help exactly? There's no connection to the most impacted stations (18th Avenue to Kings Highway), where the closest train stations are either a long walk or a bus ride away. Just run the local and call it a day. No need to complicate things for no apparent reason. Also I have my doubts that only three extra trains would be needed, that sounds very, very tight, especially for the . Again, neither has any business going down there to begin with.
  21. Well the same thing could be said for riders on the Culver Line, and I'd argue that even with the local, they'd be spending even more additional time. That's the case with all these G.O's, someone's going to be inconvenienced. Otherwise we'd be in an even worse situation with even more track and signal problems left and right. The additional mileage incurred, trains and crews needed to extend the out to Coney Island just isn't practical given that the is already there. Neither or have any business being that far out there for the sake of providing connections within Brooklyn (especially southern Brooklyn).
  22. The is generally the closest subway line to the in Southern Brooklyn. It's done that way so you can transfer at 9th Street - 4th Avenue if you need the or . The other options don't provide you those same transfer opportunities. The to the transfer at Atlantic is just not practical (and the next transfer opportunity to the 6th Avenue line is 34th Street), and it doesn't connect to the . It's the best possible option given the circumstances. You can reroute the via Sea Beach and via West End, but then you'd create more problems.
  23. ^^^With the price of eggs maybe they can start selling them on the side. That'll start patching up a little bit of their deficit.
