Grand Concourse Posted November 5, 2010 Share #26 Posted November 5, 2010 Question about the to KP extension: shouldn't the direction be pointed 'north'? I'm assuming you are extending them via Flatbush Av. If so, you are going in the opposite direction. ex: If I'm on Nostrand and facing 'up' -> Flatbush turns towards the right rather than left. I'd have the connect to the around Chambers St and use the tunnel to get to Brooklyn. Send the via 4th Av since the no longer runs there and maybe have it go to 95th St in place of the . Terminate the at Bay Pkwy for rush hours and 9th Av weekdays.
Alargule Posted November 5, 2010 Share #27 Posted November 5, 2010 Just because it's a fantasy map, it doesn't mean throw logic and common sense out the window. If it's a fantasy map, everything is permitted in my view. But OK, let's put an end to this discussion. Just curious if any of my proposed extensions will show up on the map
Alargule Posted November 5, 2010 Share #28 Posted November 5, 2010 No one has added a new line yet... I would like to see a good idea of a line that could be added. OK, how about a realistic extension: extend the Astoria line to LGA. For a new trunk line, I'd suggest something running below Tenth Av or Fifth Av. This proposal might give you some inspiration for a Fifth Av trunk line.
Baseball02 Posted November 5, 2010 Author Share #29 Posted November 5, 2010 putting a rail line in the vicinity of the Bx15/55 is unnecessary. How is putting a rail line where the Bx15/55 is unnecessary? It's actually needed there. Also, Version 4 is here! (2)/(5) to Kings Plaza direction fixed. (2 goes local, 5 goes express now) LaGuardia Airtrain added.
NX Express Posted November 5, 2010 Share #30 Posted November 5, 2010 WAIT...why is the ( local in Brooklyn?
IRT Bronx Express Posted November 5, 2010 Share #31 Posted November 5, 2010 If it's because of the Brighton Rehabiliation Project, then I understand that. If it's because of another reason, then they need Express service.
GojiMet86 Posted November 5, 2010 Share #32 Posted November 5, 2010 A little question. How does the Yankee special relay? Do the trains run light to 167 St. and then switch to the express tracks? Or do they have to use the switches before 161 St.? From nycsubway.org
IRT Bronx Express Posted November 5, 2010 Share #33 Posted November 5, 2010 Either it runs light to 167th and then head downtown, or the can go out of service and head over to Concourse Yard.

CenSin Posted November 6, 2010 Share #35 Posted November 6, 2010 I would've preferred the ( local and the express. One of the things that irks me is how no matter which train I choose at the Coney Island terminal, I cannot have a definitively faster choice to Manhattan/Queens. I often take either the or the to Queensboro Plaza for the and it's wasteful to take an express to Canal Street only to have my time eaten up by waiting for an express (which might not even show up fast enough to get me to Queensboro Plaza first) to go up Broadway. Either the or the should be the express in Manhattan and Brooklyn—not the half-assed routes they are now.
Gorgor Posted November 6, 2010 Share #36 Posted November 6, 2010 Why is the running down 59th street to 6th avenue then turning to go to 63rd with the ? Here's a link to the track map of that area: http://images.nycsubway.org/trackmap/bigmidtown.png
Baseball02 Posted November 6, 2010 Author Share #37 Posted November 6, 2010 Fixed the Q train. It goes through 63rd Street now. Also, sorry about two Gun Hill Av Stations. The actual names are: Gun Hill - White Plains Rds (2, 5, D, T) Gun Hill Rd - Seymour Ave (5, D, T) The names don't fit on the map. Also, the new 2/5 track map. Post if you think the 5 should only run on only one track instead of two...
IRT Bronx Express Posted November 6, 2010 Share #38 Posted November 6, 2010 Because the Nostrand Avenue Line is busy, leave the two express tracks intact. Out of curiosity, it would be interesting if one train heads to the demolished (you can revive it in your fantasy map) Jamaica - 168th Street, while the other heads to Jamaica Center. Just my take.

IRT Bronx Express Posted November 6, 2010 Share #40 Posted November 6, 2010 Question about the to Yankees Stadium. When it turns back, wouldn't it interfere with express service?I'm sure the special to Yankee Stadium "operates" during the weekend when the runs as a local. T to Dyre Avenue Posted November 7, 2010 Share #42 Posted November 7, 2010 I think you should extend the one stop east to Bell Boulevard. The intersection of Bell and Northern Boulevards is a very busy area with many shops, restaurants and banks close by. You also have two bus routes, the (Q13) and (Q31), running on Bell, a lot of pedestrian traffic and even a few low-rise office buildings in the area. A subway stop there would be very well used. Also, I think it might be better to connect the LGA Airtrain to the and trains at Astoria Boulevard instead of Ditmars. That way, the Airtrain can run entirely along the Grand Central Parkway right-of-way instead of running along local streets and arousing the wrath of the NIMBYs who fought so many times to keep the from being extended to the airport. By the way, good idea to bring back the train, which should not have been eliminated in the first place. Also, what about an train extension to Southeast Queens? That would certainly be well-used. Law Posted November 8, 2010 Share #43 Posted November 8, 2010 How can Nostrand Av, & train line be rebuilt into a 4 track line?
Grand Concourse Posted November 8, 2010 Share #44 Posted November 8, 2010 Nostrand Av is way too narrow to support a 4-track line. Church Av is impossible to have on a single level. Express tracks would have to be below the local tracks [like how Lexington Av is]. That plus there's no need for express service. All local is fine. The could go to KP, and you can have the end at Flatbush-Nostrand since it's long enough.

Grand Concourse Posted November 8, 2010 Share #46 Posted November 8, 2010 It would require the line going down Flatbush Av to be split from Nostrand somewhere north of the station [as well as potentially tearing down some buildings or to shore up the foundations]. Basically the original tracks/station will stay as is, but the new spur would be seperate from that station.
Baseball02 Posted November 9, 2010 Author Share #47 Posted November 9, 2010 Map update: (2)/(5) will both run local in Nostrand/Flatbush Aves. LaGuardia Airtrain will connect to the (N)/(W) in Astoria Blvd instead to avoid NIMBYs Marine Air Terminal Stop added in the LGA Airtrain

Q43 Floral Park Posted November 12, 2010 Share #49 Posted November 12, 2010 You never said why the doesn't go to Springfield Blvd, thats a far more heavily used intersection than Francis Lewis. And instead of sending the to South Ferry, you could connect it to the Nassau St Line south of Broad and send it to BK via the old at least 9th av giving the some relief
Grand Concourse Posted November 12, 2010 Share #50 Posted November 12, 2010 Agreed ^ except, I think the should replace the and have the run with the on the West End line and end at Bay Pkwy for rush hours and 9th Av middays.
