Greetings from Staten Island

Hey NYCTF,

My name's Rich, born and raised on Staten Island and have always been into looking at maps and imagining how things could be better designed - especially with rail. With the North Shore rail line on Staten Island being closed to commuter service 57 years ago and plans for an Owl's Head - St. George tunnel killed about a hundred years ago I'm always thinking about what could have been.

One of the biggest questions that's plagued me is why hasn't NY/NJ/Amtrak/whatever taken advantage of the fact that there is a rail bridge connecting Staten Island with elizabeth, and connecting the old Bay Ridge LIRR line (triboro RX anyone?) to the North Shore line with a tunnel could open up LIRR service straight from Jamaica to Linden or Elizabeth (which used to be stops on the train) - thereby relieving pressure on NYP's Amtrak/NJT stations...

But all of that is for another thread - which I'm sure exists already...
