M2 at Stamford, M3A at Grand Central

That's the second M3A that I know of that was @ GCT today which is rare for a Sunday. My ride home from GCT to Harmon was also an M3A.

 

Ive seen M3s in service on the Harlem line on sundays, its not rare to me, but on the Hudson yes as i saw a SB M3 at Riverdale about 2 hrs ago.

thanks Oz, next year I gotta do the Hudson and Harlem lines, hopefully with M3As :) Metro North is a lot of fun to ride :cool:

Nice!

 

M2 has 3rd rail & pantograph, the rooftop equipment is to dissipate heat from the transformers as well as dynamic brakes. They run best under wire, 3rd rail is all most an afterthought.

 

M3a is same as M3 on the LIRR, except it uses the bottom contact shoes, a few other minor things are different as well.
