Due to various sinkholes along Lexington Ave, portions on the Lexington Ave Line have collapsed. Trains cannot run through Brooklyn Bridge and Wall St, Spring St and Union Sq, and 23 St and 68 St (Both upper and lower levels).

(4)(6) - No trains south of 86th Street

(5) - Run on the (2) line in Manhattan

Increased service on M14, M23, M31, M66, M79, M86 crosstown buses as well as M101 LTD and M15 SBS.

(5) - To Bowling Green, via South Ferry (Old Loop) via (1) & (2) lines. Service frequency reduced to 15 mins.

You wouldn't short turn (4) Brooklyn trains at Atlantic Avenue?

If you don't, then the (3) should run to New Lots Avenue at all times.

I also made other changes.

No real point in really having (4) trains run in Brooklyn for only 3 stops. People are still going to need to transfer. And yeah, the (3) would have to go to New Lots at all times, but I was just considering the regular day service pattern in my answer.

And sending the (5) down to Bowling Green via the (1) would just back up the (1)(2)(3) trains as well as get in the way of itself because both directions would have to use the same track to turn around. Might as well send it to Brooklyn because most of the people traveling to lower Manhattan on the (4)(5) are coming from the Upper East Side or transferring from a Queens train, not coming from the Bronx.

Why not this:

(3) Extended to New Lots Av late nights.

(4) No trains between 86 St and Bowling Green. Trains turn at Bowling Green by wrong railing on the South Ferry loop.

(5) Trains run via the (2) from 149 St to Nevins St.

(6) No trains south of 86 St.

(:) Suspended to reduce switching.

(D) Service increased to 25 tph. Some northbound trains terminate at Bedford Park Bl or Fordham Road. Some southbound trains terminate at 9 Av or Bay Parkway. To reduce switching, (A) trains run local on CPW. In addition, Bronx express service is suspended.

(M) Service increased to 12 tph. Some northbound trains terminate at Queens Plaza.

(N) Runs via tunnel, trains run at 15 tph. Some southbound trains terminate at 59 St.

(Q) No trains north of 57 St / 7 Av. Trains run at 18 tph. Every other train runs express in Brooklyn to Brighton Beach.

(R) Service slightly increased.

Summary:

(B) 0 tph

(D) 25 tph

(M) 12 tph

(N) 15 tph

(Q) 18 tph

(R) 10 tph

Way for alternative service. And decreasing service on the (4)? Seriously?

Your scenario:

No (N) trains between Lex - 59th and Queensboro Plaza.

No (Q) trains between Times Square - 42 St and Astoria - Ditmars.

71 Av-bound (R) trains run via the (F) between 57 St - 7 Av and 36 St (Queens).

(Q) trains would get into the way of (R) trains. And how would (R) trains run via the (E)?

PS I don't know what an expert would say about this, but IMHO it's better to fully suspend service than run ridiculously limited service, especially to a place as busy as Astoria.

Alternate service? Ok. Build the (Q)(T) to 125th Street and provide double service to provide for commuters who would be taking the (4)(5)(6).

Seriously, what did you want me to do? Increase service on the (;)(C)? The (4)(5)(6) have absolutely no close alternatives in Manhattan. Best thing to do would increase service on the M101 LTD and the M15 SBS.

Every LFSA that's not being used will be used for shuttle bus work via the Manhattan Bridge and they would be doing 77 mph the whole way (you said be creative ;))

But in all seriousness...

1. Every other (F) train from Queens will terminate at 2 Av

2. Some (F) trains will go via Cranberry from Jay St to W. 4 St while others go via Crosstown

3. Shuttle buses will be provided between 2 Av and East Broadway. People to/from York St gotta use High St (its not that long of a walk, or just walk to Sands St for the B67 down to Jay St)

(E) No trains between Roosevelt Av and Jamaica Center. Some trains terminate at Queens Plaza.

(J) Service increased between 111 St and Broad St. Trains from Jamaica Center run express between Broadway Junction and Marcy Av.

(M) No trains between Myrtle Av and 71 Av. This allows for more J service.

(N) No trains between 86 St / Gravesend and Coney Island.

(Q) No trains between Brighton Beach and Coney Island.

(R) No trains between Roosevelt Av and 71 Av. Limited service between Northern Bl and Roosevelt Av.

I'll avoid the rather dumb one-shuttle-bus-serving-all-stations route and try to go without shuttle buses at all:

(5) No trains between Bowling Green and Flatbush Av.

(A) Runs as much service as possible. Extra trains run between Euclid Av and 168 St. Runs local in Brooklyn.

Ok. Seriously, what exactly do you mean by that?

Well anyways, I'm doing it the logical way that the MTA might actually do if such a situation were to arise:

(1) - No trains south of 42nd Street, Times Square

(2) - Run via the (5) between the Bronx and Brooklyn

(3) - No trains south of 42nd Street, Times Square - Runs local entire route

(4) - Extended to New Lots Ave - Runs local east of Franklin Ave

And umm, alternates are:

- (C) train from 59th Street, Columbus Circle for access to the West Side

- (Q) train from 42nd Street, Times Square to Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn to continue your trip

- (R) train from 42nd Street, Times Square for lower Manhattan

NEXT
