Turbo19 Posted December 6, 2012 Share #27 Posted December 6, 2012 In regards to SoSpectacular's vid of the LIB Orion V, I remember riding Omnitrans's Orion V CNG's originally delivered with the L10G, but I also remember them having a deeper sound. Wish I had a recording to compare.
jgood6195 Posted December 6, 2012 Share #28 Posted December 6, 2012 They might have had Allisons whereas MTA Long Island Bus's first Orion V CNGs had ZF Hp592s if I'm not mistaken.
Turbo19 Posted December 6, 2012 Share #29 Posted December 6, 2012 It didn't occur to me that the difference in transmission would have such an effect on the engine wike that. But yes, they were Allisons, they even kept them when they swapped the L10G's for the C8.3G's.
jgood6195 Posted December 6, 2012 Share #30 Posted December 6, 2012 The C8.Gs have no personality whatsoever.

Turbo19 Posted December 9, 2012 Share #36 Posted December 9, 2012 The C8.Gs have no personality whatsoever. I'd beg to differ as they always hauled, proven by their force and quick acceleration. They were even alright in the C40LF's Nobody else likes the Series 40? It's alright, but nowhere near my favorite. Nearby Foothill Transit got some for their 2000 Gillig Advantage's. I can only describe them as a basic engine for a basic bus.
Aussieinuk Posted December 14, 2012 Share #37 Posted December 14, 2012 I love the Two stroke Detroit Diesel, right from the 6v53 up to the 8v92tta. They might not be the most environmentally friendly engines around, but they were the most reliable, and the sound? Best noise ever.
