I saw that every other (Q11) is planned to short turn at 157th Avenue & Cross Bay Boulevard while those that don't would simultaneously serve both branches. Does this mean the branches would get more service than currently, or the same amount of service?

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the locations of 12 outdoor pop-up events and five outreach events in partnership with the MTA’s Mobile Sale Vehicles to engage with customers in person and gather feedback on the latest version of the Queens Bus Network Redesign beginning Monday, March 25. Since the release of the Proposed Final Plan in December 2023, the MTA has met with and presented to community boards, elected officials, community institutions and other stakeholders. Details of future events including five open houses will be announced at a later date.

With the release of the Proposed Final Plan in December 2023, the MTA also launched the Future Trip Planner, which allows customers to input a start and end location and see an overview of their trip with the bus route changes in effect. The Future Trip Planner is populated with data from the schedules written for the Proposed Final, which is now available for download on the Queens Bus Network Redesign project page.

“Queens is the borough most reliant on good bus service and it is critical that this redesign deliver service improvements to the hundreds of thousands of riders who need it,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey. “By listening to and working with customers and communities across the World’s Borough, we’ve developed a plan to improve connections, speed up trips, and reduce wait times. We are committed to giving Queens bus riders even more in-person opportunities to learn, ask questions, and comment on the plan directly during these pop-up events, which are scheduled during peak travel times to reach as many people as possible. I look forward to hearing from customers directly and delivering the modern, better bus network Queens deserves.”

The Redesign Team will be out in communities across Queens at the dates listed below from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In case of inclement weather, events may be rescheduled so customers are advised to check the project webpage before heading out to an event.

Monday, March 25: 165 St Bus Terminal, underneath the canopy of the bus bays.

Tuesday, March 26: Flushing-Main St 7, on the central mezzanine of the subway station.

Mobile Sales Pop-ups

In partnership with the MTA’s Mobile Sales team, the Queens Bus Network Redesign team will be on-site at five Mobile Sales locations this spring to meet with bus customers, talk about the Proposed Final Plan and routes proposed in their neighborhood, and collect feedback.
Monday, April 8 from 11a.m.-2p.m.: Ditmars Blvd and 23 Av in Astoria.

Tuesday, April 16 from 10a.m.-2p.m.: Rochdale Community Center.

Thursday, April 18 from 10a.m.-12p.m.: Allen Community Senior Citizens Center in Jamaica.

Friday, May 3 from 1p.m.-3p.m.: Rego Center Mall, outside Marshall’s.

Monday, May 13 from 10a.m.-12p.m.: Bay Terrace Shopping Center, Bell Blvd and 24 Av.

In addition to meeting with the Queens Bus Network Redesign team, the following services are offered at the Mobile Sales Vehicles:

Get help with a Reduced-Fare application

Transfer MetroCard balances (Full fare and Reduced-Fare)

Exchange a damaged Reduced-Fare MetroCard for a temporary replacement

Report a lost/stolen Reduced-Fare MetroCard

Ask our team about any MetroCard-related issues

Sign up for OMNY

Mobile Sales schedules are subject to change and all events are weather dependent, so customers are advised to check the website before visiting.

The public is always welcome to visit the Queens Bus Network Redesign project webpage and visit individual route profiles to learn more about their bus route and of any proposed changes. The route profiles provide a helpful summary of proposed changes, frequencies, and a map clearly outlining the new and existing routings, and portions where service is either discontinued, shortened or extended.

I looked at the data and it looks like Q26 service south of 47th Av/Hollis Court will be rush hours only and the Q72 will have a rush hour short turn at 94th/Ditmars outside of the airport. There's more than that, though.

I download it has 2 folders but one says MAC OSX and GTFS-TRIPS_978cad10_2024-02-23-16-19-36. When click on GTFS-TRIPS_978cad10_2024-02-23-16-19-36 it only has text and it is like jumbled up.  Is this only to be used on a Macintosh computer?

Which text document in the folder did you click?

I clicked on GTFS-Trips folder.  Then they have the following documents agency, calendar, routes, shapes, stop_times, stops, and trips.  Then I click each one of the documents and it just has texts.  For example:

The routes has all the route in Queens Bus Redesign, and the trips has the scheduled trips that the routes in the redesign will have, based on the time the trip start.

I see I though when I download the file it is like the MTA where you have the physical map and you can plan things out on your computer instead of going to the website.

Some tidbits I found in the data for NE Queens folks:

  • QM20 PM peak service only begins at 1530...seems odd for them not to start peak service at at 1500
  • QM2/20 AM peak service reduced to a max frequency of 10 mins instead of the 6-8min frequency from 7-8AM
  • QM2 weekend service still says via Mitchell Gardens in the route destination sign but is not shown on the Remix map
  • Q61 service is only 15-20 minute service during the rush but 30 mins most of the time.
  • Q62 has equally crappy 15-20 minute peak headways during the rush instead of 10 now.

Yes right yesterday I made an excel sheet and to see what the Q61 times are and it is 15-20 minutes rush but that is not good it needs like every 10 minutes during rush hours.  IF no rush hours it should be 15-20 minutes.  Anyway, I am going to put my input on March 26, 2024 when the popup even is coming to Flushing.  I hope a lot of people in this forum will give a lot of feedback then.

Agreed it should be 10 minute headways for the Q61/62 between 7-9AM and 4-7PM if they want people to actually use the route.  Otherwise, it's a service decrease to current Q15/Q34 riders.

Yes because I work in Brooklyn from queens and I have to take the 1st bus and get there because if I take the 2nd bus I will be late.  For example I am taking the Q34 bus at 5:00AM in the morning and get to work by 8:00AM.  Sometimes the 5:00AM bus does not come so I have to take the 2nd Q34 bus at 5:20AM.  If I take the 5:20AM and there are problems with the subways then I am screwed and I will be late like 8:15AM.  If I take the 5:00AM bus I get to work at 7:00AM but I start at 8:00AM.  Then for 1 hr I can rest eat my breakfast etc before I start my work day.  Once I took the Q15 at 5:20AM same time as the Q34 bus I got to work at 8:15AM because there was a subway problem.  Then there is a problem on the new scheduled I tried the map (Future trip planner) Q61 and it will come at 4:52AM and arrive at Main at 5:09AM so that is doable for me.  The next would 5:13A and get to main at 5:32A and that is cutting close to 8:00AM at work yikes!

It’s a government agency and it requires hearings before implementation. You want them to just go a head with the redesign without community input?

If the redesign was a good one that helped most passengers, you wouldn’t have all this opposition. But the MTA is more concerned with providing less service to save money than they are with improving service and the riders can see through them.

When my Southwest Brooklyn Plan was presented to the Community Boards in 1978, three boards voted in favor and three abstained. No one voted against it. Some minor modifications were made and the MTA made some more. There was a public hearing and it was implemented and has been very successful. I just rode half of the B1 the other day in the midafternoon and there were standees all the time in both directions. The routes it replaced barely carried seated loads and operated much less frequently.

To be honest, yes. I’ve been reading some of these complaints and most of them are basically along the lines of “I’ve been riding this line for x amount of time and don’t want change”.

Maybe they don’t want change because the change is not an improvement.

I find it strange that they framed it as if the Q10's loop via 134 St will be entirely removed, without even a mention of any replacements such as the Q37.

Not to mention that the Q37 would be two blocks away from Sutter....
