Pablo M 201 Posted April 20, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2009 Ah, the good ol' RTS CNGs. I sadly only rode on those once or twice.
7LineFan Posted April 20, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 20, 2009 Rode on them quite often, although only the Triboro ones. My elementary school had two Triboro lines close by, and they came every now and then. Even soon after the takeover, they were coming by.

trainfan22 Posted April 20, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 20, 2009 Can anyone explain why they retired them and for what purpose? CNG tanks lifespan ended. Same thing is happening @ LI Bus with their Orion V CNGs from the mid 90s.
Bracamonte Posted April 20, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted April 20, 2009 CNG tanks lifespan ended. Same thing is happening @ LI Bus with their Orion V CNGs from the mid 90s. What do you mean CNG tanks lifespan ended?
trainfan22 Posted April 21, 2009 Share #10 Posted April 21, 2009 What do you mean CNG tanks lifespan ended? IIRC there is a law where CNG tanks on buses must be replaced every 12 years. The MTA took over those PBL just about when those CNG RTS hit 12 years old, I guess the MTA didn't want GOH them with new CNG tanks.

PATCOman Posted April 21, 2009 Share #12 Posted April 21, 2009 Yup I remember those buses. I remember 2052 at some point had a different rear similar to the RTSs in Los Angeles. I remember those buses had a serious lean when the bus would turn.
Fresh Pond Posted April 21, 2009 Share #13 Posted April 21, 2009 So did they get scrapped or repowered to diesel? I've seen some after the takeover with the numbers 7xxx at Spring Creek, and now those exact numbers are at Far Rockaway. The 7xxx at Far Rockaway looks EXACTLY like the ones in the pics, minus the top.
Q25toJamaica Posted April 21, 2009 Share #14 Posted April 21, 2009 Those were my favorite buses, especially Bus 7172, I don't know what it was numbered at TCC. The only thing that would make them sexier is a porkchop.
Guest Charles Posted April 22, 2009 Share #15 Posted April 22, 2009 These buses bring back good memories. Too bad they had to go so early.
Forest Glen Posted April 22, 2009 Share #16 Posted April 22, 2009 Awesome pics. Much better than the low floor Orion's.

Bus 7212 fell off of a lift or something before the takeover and was completely rebuilt. It was last seen at one of the GBL depots. IDK, my last two trips were to SEPTA and the PM Rush in Midtown. Guest Charles Posted April 22, 2009 Share #18 Posted April 22, 2009 Does this mean in a couple of years the Orion V CNGs will also suffer the same fate?
R32 3348 Posted April 22, 2009 Share #19 Posted April 22, 2009 Nice pics! And IDK, the 1995 O5 CNGs are still here.
Bee Flexible #823 Posted April 22, 2009 Share #20 Posted April 22, 2009 Very easy: 7172 was TCC 2072. 7212 (TCC 2828) is still going strong out of JFK Depot. Same goes for 5926 (GBL 1171) out of Far Rock.
