Happened on the n6 again:

Nassau County police are looking for a man who punched a NICE bus driver in the face Sunday because the driver missed his stop.

Police said Monday the suspect hit the driver, 50, at about 6:30 p.m. in Franklin Square, after the driver operating the N6 bus missed the stop on eastbound Hempstead Turnpike.

The suspect got up, started a disturbance and then sat down when the driver stopped at Franklin Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

When the driver continued his route, east on Hempstead Turnpike, the suspect "got back up causing another disturbance," police said in a news release.

"The victim stopped the bus again at Claflin Boulevard and the suspect punched the victim in the face causing a laceration to his lip," the release said.

The suspect then left the bus, traveling west on Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

It's at least the second assault on a NICE bus driver in the last month, according to police.

On Feb. 24, a Hempstead woman, 27, punched a driver, driving the same route on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, police said.

Ivey S. Dixon, pleaded not guilty to felony second-degree assault at her arraignment and is due back in District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.

Police and prosecutors said Dixon punched driver Keisha McGregor, 38, on Nassau Inter-County Express N-6 bus, also because the driver missed the passenger's stop.

Dixon struck the driver in the head as the bus approached New Hyde Park Road, police said. She got off the bus and fled east on Hempstead Turnpike with her daughter, 3. She was arrested two days later after police received an anonymous tip.

This is hardly surprising. The buses are more & more like a ghetto on wheels. I really feel bad for the drivers, but when you mess with service, make it less frequent, less reliable, and more dirty, the civil people stop riding and you're left with people that have no respect for themselves or others.

I even came up with a new name for the system, NIGE, Nassau Inter-Ghetto Express, since the system's purpose is basically for moving people from bad areas to other bad areas.

Just wait till some of those n1 runs are cut on March 30th.

Wow, now this was kinda surprising, given that it happened on the same route and in less than a month. They need extra n6 buses if they see that they are bypassing these stops full or something (based on what I think is the case and what I've read).

That's odd that it happened around the same area, it sounds like a copy cat. I wonder if anyone on the bus did anything

It sounds like a Copy Cat, but the N1 reverse peak runs are not a big deal, if it was peak direction n1 trips then it would cause issues.  During rush hrs you can just sit at 225th Street and Hempstead Ave and watch all the full N6 buses going into and out of Nassau (Peak direction mostly). Reducing service so that MORE people start getting Flagged would piss people off most definitely.

Now it's becoming fashionable to take out one's frustrations on service employees? This behavior is UNACCEPTABLE!

At the same time, Nassau County is bringing this on itself.

Absolutely. If you want to become a felon, go to Nassau County and hit a bus operator

Well, it's a NY State law, so yes, they are covered/protected.

If they work for a public authority they are... NICE obviously isn't so it's just a regular assault charge. They did keep the MTA "bus operators are protected by NYS law" stickers and even put them in the 3Gs, but they don't mean anything anymore with NICE.

Seeing a passenger hit a bus driver on the n6 because he/she missed the stop is surprisingly rare. At worst, people will just board the bus without a Metrocard or change, whip out a couple of dollars from their pocket and ask people for change to pay the fare. I've seen that happen on the n6 a couple of times.

Hopefully the Mobile Fare tickets will reduce that

  • 4 weeks later...

Recent story on channel 7 about the attacks. Of course if these low class passengers had any intelligence they'd complain to NICE, Mangano, the County, and Governor Cuomo (like I have), but most of the intelligent riders already left the system.  :(

Dude look at the changing demographics
