  1. With that money, NICE would be able to create entirely new bus lines, possibly to areas that don't currently see bus service. I proposed somewhere a new "n59" bus that would see service from Hempstead transit center to Coop city in the Bronx with a stops by Northshore towers and Flushing. and would run every 12 minutes off peak and 8 minutes during rush-hours. Weekend service would be every 20 minutes. That's the type of service that could happen if Nassau weren't a bunch of morons. But then again, the MTA would still be around to begin with....
  2. The Metrocard was supposed to be discontinued by the end of 2023 with the last new cards being usable until around 2025.
  3. Do they crack once that occur? Surely the manufacture has improved on these wheels as that was in the mid 1990s and MTA Long Island bus (now NICE) has stuck with it since then and they too see alot of stop and go in Nassau (admittingly less so then the city, but regardless).
  4. If the MTA does decide to place an extra option to the upcoming R211 order (if the contract allows), then a 2 to 5 4 car sets should be more than enough to cover any lingering loose ends. I'm under the impress, to avoid more bad press from last week's incident, the TA will have to speed up the retirement process of the R68s and R68As (even though the shooting was on R46 car #5551, they do have similar spec's).
  5. Who thinks that the acloa hubcaps should make a come back on MTA buses? I think this new cuomo scheme was a missed opportunity to do so although they did teased it on a couple of demo buses.
  6. WMATA isn't used to ordering subway cars from more than one builder at the same time. They rarely do that with the bus side of operations as it is...
  7. Wasn't that unit already on property? If it is, how many are left to be delivered. I assume they are all built by now if the Diesels are starting to arrive across the river.
  8. Which is why in 2011 after nearly a decade of purchasing buses from only Orion and MCI, the MTA started the BTE bus program. They were able to evaluate what buses can handle which areas and levels of passenger traffic. New Flyer was able to regain it's footing with the MTA after their 2004 fallout and Novabus was also able to make a comeback since they were gone from the Big Apple since 2001 at that point. It is for that reason how today, the fleet is nearly half and half Xcelsior/LFS and their variants today for new buses purchases with the remaining 1000+ or so Orion 7s making up the majority of legacy fleet for the local buses.
  9. You're fine. This is the random section afterall.
  10. Also, did NICE mention anywhere when they plan to ditch Compressed Natural Gas fueled buses altogther?
  11. Well, they are also replacing all the remaining R44s as well.
  12. Does anyone know for sure if the R262 contract is just a working title or if it is the real deal? Seems somewhat lazy and convenient to be taken seriously instead of say, R-275 or something.
  13. It shouldn't take that long. If the MTA actually do this and place an extra option fast enough, they can have all sets in by 2029.
  14. To tell you the true, I'm surprised they are not doing this at West Farms Depot instead, since it's the newest Depot in the Bronx division, having opened in the early 2000s.
  15. Are you certain that the bus in question is #3823 and not #3923? Just asking since it was out of order in your sequence.
  16. Perhaps the NABI BRT 42 hybrids will be the next buses to go to Ready Reserve instead of the New Flyer DE42LFA hybrids?
  17. Well, you said that #1807 was written off. Was it in a wreck? We already know the story of #1804. IIRC, they send the XE40s will eventually venture off to other routes, so I'd assume they would want to take the options, though maybe later down the line. Are there any plans for RVC Depot seeing that it is still standing, or maybe a future new Depot elsewhere (I'd suggest the North Shore area)?
  18. Here's something that's been bugging me, why don't MBSTOA buses actually say "MBSTOA" Instead of "MTA NYC Bus"?
  19. Agreed, I always looked at the R179s as an add on to the R160s anyway. But yes, they do need to add more cars to take out the R68/R68As too as it's only another 630 or so cars to procure. Wouldn't make much sense to place a totally new order of say....., R-246s just for it to only be 630 or so new cars by 2029. Just retire them all now within the next few years and then the T/A wouldn't really have to worry about retiring anymore BMT/IND stock until 2040 or so.
  20. Yeah, I'd like to know too, sad story.
  21. Has anyone actually tried their products. I personally don't like the idea of eating fake meat grown in a lab somewhere.
