  1. What he meant by being on the board is that you’re going to be on standby until the crew office gives you a job (or something to do otherwise) or you make it to your clear time. Also, some jobs have a “Work As Assigned” portion at a location in between your trips.
  2. Sometime after they made Lafayette on the 90 a stop.
  3. Number correct divided by number of questions. Then round to the nearest hundredth and that will give you your score.
  4. I’ve gotten two during my time as an operator. It’s different now as @Via Garibaldi 8said. A lot of compliments / commendations come through Twitter and it’s like an acknowledgment. You get like a certificate. Not sure if they still give out apples with those or if even doing the whole formal call with 511 will give you the Apple.
  5. Stengel is short buses because of maintenance. The Novas are restricted to operators that pull in at the end of their run, until everyone gets trained on them. It’s to avoid having to take a trip out of service during the operator relief because the relieving operator isn’t trained on the bus.
  6. Came a long way from being a street pharmacist 👏🏾
  7. It’s the service pattern. During those times, you’re supposed to take the 10.
  8. Of course they would. City job is no different from any other job on a background check.
  9. I mean you’re not wrong with your post either because the daily loans usually go back at the end of the day. That and SI’s extra service work led to some confusion. I thought the buses went to Castleton, went back to Charleston and then back again perm. to Castleton.
  10. They finish your background investigation during your first year. Employees have been disqualified and/or fired for discrepancies in the past.
  11. Historically, it’s been a 60-80 question test. You need 70% of the questions right to pass.
  12. Free on the LIRR and MNRR. Show your pass to the conductor during collection.
  13. Missed it, Gun Hill All Manhattan routes are staying at their depots
  14. Tuskegee will operate the M125, with artics. There are no other changes to Manhattan depots. 15. Also going to OA will restart the clock on the 3 years as bus op to be promoted.
  16. All of that is true, it does feel like a grind, especially when you’re not at top pay. This is also why people say make your financial decisions as if you’re only making 80 hours every paycheck. When you can’t get OT, you won’t take a hit. Also, you have to figure out the easier ways to make OT. Take advantage of the reserve time when picking up work and know what work will give you the most amount of pay for the least amount of driving. For example, I used to drill at the yard every night for 3-4 hours, pick up a first half on a hawk (only on the lines where I knew I wasn’t picking up much people) or get the spare buses back to the depot. If I wanted work before my run, I usually stuck to express since the majority of the work was a trip into the city and then pull in. During the winter time, there was drill work open just for snow chains and the bus moves to Quill. On the road, speak with some of the post dispatchers and see if they could use your bus as a spare or keep you as assigned to fill a gap in service or to cover a relief. If they know you like to work extra, they’ll call you and set you up with it. Some days are hard ngl, but there’s ways to make it easy.
  17. Did HR change your title in the system? They did mines last week and I’m at $37.18
  18. The overpass signs with the height are not an absolute measurement, so there is some extra clearance going through. (Hence why the buses straddle the middle) When I was training, my supt made us go through the traverse with the hybrid just to demonstrate that.
  19. All the dispatchers are without a contract right now. The TSO represented SLDs (OA and Queens) just settled their contract ending 2020. (This is the contract that they were behind on) Yes to the night diff. The SLDs like operators are represented by different unions. The SSSA rep Brooklyn and SI and the TSO has everyone else.
