  1. When you disable the jake or the retarder on your bus, you need way more stopping distance since it’s all on the brakes. Combine that with brake fade and it’s easy to underestimate the actual braking effort you have.
  2. There is but the 10 seconds is in place to prevent a DDOS attack from overloading the servers with search queries. I gotta wait too, lol.
  3. AVAs/PLDs are always worth 8 hours. Vacation Days pay your run pay with night diff. OTO time pays your run pay only (unless you’re in SI, then it’s 8 hours up to your run pay) If you’re on the list, you will get paid division pay.
  4. We already have an all things 211 thread. Please use that one, thanks.
  5. TA can’t touch the buses because they’re under warranty. They have to wait for Prevost to come and make the adjustments.
  6. The math on that makes $35.57/hr which looks about right for the time the NOE was published. (Since top pay for operators was $34) The SSSA contract expired in July 2020 and I’m sure the starting pay will be raised above again when it gets renewed.
  7. They’ll hold onto them for now. 1607-1629 is the option order and there’s not a delivery date for those yet.
  8. They just sent a class of students here. I think the next group will be coming over in January. Transfers are processed in the order received and you will be notified when you’re going to be heading to SI.
  9. Update: 6 TA, scheduled for the 12/19 class. 2 were deferments from lower in the list (lower list #s), and 4 between 67-75. Highest list now is 75.
  10. Your first prevent accident is a freebie. You’ll go see the GS about it and they’ll schedule a day for you to go to Zerega for P&E. (Performance and Eval) You spend the day there discussing your accident with other ops and drive around for a bit. After that, you’re good. Don’t sweat it. I had two accidents in the same week on probation. Two preventable accidents will get you extended. Incidents are other events on your bus i.e. sick customer and those aren’t held against you.
  11. Well what did people think was gonna happen vandalizing the government’s property?
  12. No but they’re getting the electric buses when they come in.
  13. Just dress like a bus operator. Blue button collared shirt, navy blue pants, the appropriate shoes and a blue tie.
  14. Pull in and out during the midday. Charleston and Yukon are SI’s only two that have runs that go up to Quill. @XcelsiorBoii4888 During COVID, they stopped the Quill layovers so everyone went back to their depots for their swing. It’s back to the regular now tho. @paulrivera Charleston. Yukon, Ulmer Park, Spring Creek, College Point, Eastchester and I think Yonkers all have runs that layover in the city. Queens Village lays up in Long Island City and I think everyone else goes back home.
  15. Pick something close to where you live because when the snow hits, it can be hell to get to/from. https://www.ttmg.org/insidersguide/current-rosters/new-york-mta-bus-roster/new-york-mta-bus-roster-depot-4/ Look through that. It will list all the depots, locations, routes and type of buses that they have. Also, don’t get your hopes up. You’re gonna pick depots soon based on where there’s openings and by seniority. Be prepared to get sent to Queens or Staten Island.
  16. Meredith is a depot. It has its own work and operators. It’s a satellite facility equipped to do small maintenance. All of the heavy work gets sent out to the other 3 depots or Zerega. It does not have fueling or farebox handling capacities, those are done at Castle and Yukon daily. I’m working at Meredith right now. My day starts and ends there, I get my bus there and I fuel at Castleton everyday.
  17. Yeah a foot in the door is a good thing. When you transfer over, you don’t have to redo training and your probation time carries over.
  18. There’s some regularity based on retirements and where they need people. If you just want to work at Fresh Pond, you can apply for both the TA and OA positions and go with whatever calls you first. OA operators can work at TA depots and vice versa. However, if you were to move up to dispatcher for instance, you can only work at depots in your division. OA dispatchers at OA depots, TA at TA. If you want the city job and NYCERS pension, then go TA. If you go OA to TA, you will lose your seniority though.
