  1. You’re gonna have acute turns tomorrow so don’t get caught lacking. Good luck.
  2. You should be able to by time you get your first paycheck. If not, call the BSC and they will get you set up.
  3. Don’t sweat it. You’ll pick it up between 4 and 5. Acute left turns, you have to size up the turn. If it’s going around a curb and the first spot on the left doesn’t have an obstacle, then turn early. This allows you to add as much space on the right side in case you can’t make the turn clean. This also allows you to get in position to pivot around an obstacle in the second spot once your bus is in there. If there’s parked cars on the right side, you need to turn early. Acute right turns are hook turns. Either way, remember your pivot point. If your wheel is not turned all the way, you can stop and lock it to turn your turn into a pivot turn. For your right side turn, you’re going have to track the car through. Look outside the bus to get a better gauge on spacing. With some cars, some parts of it won’t appear or might be lower or higher then what your mirror is set to. You can stop and adjust your mirrors to get a better look. Lean and move around to scan for the whole car.
  4. Edit: Nvm, lemme verify that. It says 250 for MTA Bus (which could be the Prevosts) and 92 for NYCT.
  5. Replacing buses becomes way easier when the feds are handing out money. They can definitely get 20+ years out of these buses like they did the RTS and Detroit MCIs but if there’s no need to, then they’re going. The XDE and LFS orders are specifically targeting the Orion OGs for replacement and some of the NGs. If you’ve noticed, NYCT has been sending hand me downs over to MTA Bus to retire something until an order comes in. (First with the RTS, then the first OGs and now the NGs) All of the depots that have/had OGs are getting new buses right now. The next local bus order is definitely going for the NGs and some of the 2011 fleet. The next express order is going to make this Prevost city unless MCI pulls something. The other thing with the retirement and replacing of buses depends on maintenance too. Depots and boros are coming down to one manufacturer across the whole fleet. (Unless you’re Quill, then you’re getting everything) The CTs that were retired from Castle were due to mechanical issues. Meredith was getting their new buses so they sent the older Prevosts to replace them. The CLs are going to Charleston for the SIM23/24 and it makes sense to send CLs because they already have them. They don’t have to do much. Once the option order of Prevosts come in (or maybe the rest of Meredith’s buses), those CLs are gone. So you’re right that a bus gets retired when there’s a replacement for them. Sometimes, some moves are just to buy time till the next order, or if people complain enough.
  6. I actually had a problem with the stop request glitch that you bought up twice in the same week and I bought it up to the union to have it addressed. If you want, can you compile a list of errors in the system and send them to me so I can pass it on?
  7. It depends on how bad the frame is. Frame integrity usually is. Right when Castleton started retiring the CTs, they checked the frames on all 19 buses and if it was deemed the frame was no good, it was retired.
  8. No no, it’s an error in the stop listing. The 90 stops at the ferry, Jersey, Lafayette, North Burgher, Park Avenue, Nicholas, Van Name/Simonson, Harbor, South and then all stops to Amazon. That’s how it’s always been. If someone wants to go to Morningstar, they’re going to be disappointed when the 90 goes right past the stop. It’s a setup for conflicts.
  9. The limited portion of the 90 runs between the ferry and South Avenue, which is three limited stops after Park. That’s the issue.
  10. Could be worse. Like when they first did the 33C schedule and our paddles and they gave us 5 mins to go from Slosson to the Harbor on the weekends. A lot of blown meals on that one.
  11. Everyone is so used to the MCI. It’s going to be an adjustment. There’s an extra step to the farebox and the step up to the aisle but it’s the same amount of steps that our Prevosts have always had.
  12. Negative. They want no pending tickets when you go through pre-employment. They will tell you to take care of it beforehand.
  13. Yes. Will start service on 1/3. The schedules posted now have always been there. They link off to Academy’s website.
  14. You can be sitting on report (on the board) for say 2 hours and they can give you a full run to do. So instead of working 8 hours, you now have to stay for 10 (or whenever the run finishes) I’ve gotten midnight reports on the board and wind up working till 1-3pm because I was getting full runs. I’m in Buses but it’s the same idea working in trains.
  15. They use the fed’s money to fund most orders for MTA Bus. If you’ve noticed, all of their local fleet is some New Flyer owned entity, so it would make sense to keep them with New Flyer products. If you want to put in the word, Staten Island has plenty Novabuses to swap. 😏
  16. General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement sections.
  17. At its core: : The light blue button shirt, long or short sleeve. : Dark blue/navy pants : Tie during the winter uniform period or anytime with a long sleeve. : The appropriate footwear. You can wear shorts and the blue polo shirts during the summer uniform period. You’ll get some TA issued extras such as the sweater vest, the bi-fold jacket and socks. (Lmao yes) You can get all the other stuff that you’ve seen on your own or from people selling at the depots/Zerega.
  18. They might have had looked into the OOS buses at Quill and Hale with New Flyer and got it sorted out with the incoming units.
  19. The day of the marathon, the SIM1 drop offs are done in reverse.
