Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and six others shot in Arizona

First, I'd like to say it's very nice that the New York Delegation reacted to the sad and unfortunate tragedy here in Tucson, Arizona and in offering their thoughts and prayers as reported by NY1.

 

Representative Gabrielle Giffords represents Tucson. She underwent surgery at University Medical Center, and while critical, a trauma doctor is optimistic about her future.

 

Here in Arizona, while we believe in the Second Amendment, the belief is any capable person is free to posess a gun. Unfortunately, in a free society, one that doesn't require background checks, licensing, or registration, sometimes it is not easy to determine who is capable and who isn't until a tragedy like this occurs.

 

Does this reflect on Arizonans? To an extent, it does, and will, but it should not to an extent that a belief starts that every Arizonan who posseses a gun will use that gun to commit an assassination or a crime.

 

Those who do, such as this Jared Loughner, soitenly should have their right to possess a gun or any weapon and their right to freedom taken away.

 

My hope is that Representative Giffords makes it and that Jared Loughner pays his price for choosing to use his freedom in such a bad way.

We have enough more than enough gun regulation. Do you know what's involved to even get a premises license in NY county? It's just become a sham to milk law abiding citizens who wish to exercise their 2nd amendment rights out of money. And it empowers the "gun grabbers" - those who get illegal firearms who would do so anyway - when they are virtually assured the public as a whole is unarmed and therefore unable to defend itself. That empowers them.

 

What we should do is close the damn border for a time, stop giving illegals benefits, send them back, and spend all the money that's being wasted on this BS instead encouraging and aiding Calderon in his literal war against the drug lords. Start putting bounties on the drug lords' heads. Get rid of them all. Clean up Mexico, and then worry about opening up the borders and "border control".

 

And as far as I'm concerned the DREAM act is a dream...for illegals. No more anchor babies. 10 years of military service with an honorable discharge if you ever want to become an American citizen. Graduating college so you can take a job away from an American who was born here should not be cause to allow someone their citizenship.

 

Lots of people have come here over the years LEGALLY. No one should be rewarded it for doing it illegally, and the taxpayers should not have to pay one red cent to help an illegal while they're here.

I disagree with many of Ms. Giffords's policies. Anybody pro-gun is mis-informed and simply wrong. That's always clear. Nobody can present a reasonable argument for public possession of guns. She was also one of the flip-flop Republican turned Democrats. Again, not exactly my political stance.

Gun laws vary from state to state though. It's much easier to get a gun in a red state like AZ or TX, than it is in say, blue states, like NY and CA.

From a purely strategic perspective its not going to help the republicans anyway, they now delayed the repeal vote in the house cuz of this, plus its going to make it harder to get support in the senate for a repeal.

They have one at Massapequa LIRR station, right at the train station, you can take the LIRR to it. Nothing in the constitution says the government is required to provide for you health care, but there are clauses that prevent the government from forcing someone to purchase something.

 

As for guns, that is a constitutionally protected right, some people keep guns to protect themselves against others who want to do something violent to them. The historical interpretation was to protect people from an intrusive and invasive government like the british government was back then.

Good for Massapequa. One isolated incident doesn't tarnish a group. If this was a one time thing, he'd be dismissed as a loon and sent off to Bellevue. But this isn't an isolated incident, and this isn't just the Tea Party movement, but more the right-wing movement of our country. This goes back to Oklahoma City, the Atlanta Olympic bombing, all of those militia movements that haunted the 1990s, the bombing of abortion clinics and the murder of doctors, the damaging of legislature offices after the healthcare vote, the guy who flew a plane into the IRS building in Texas, other incidents that I can't remember right now. There is a problem with the right wing movement and violence that this country refuses to talk about.

 

I'm not saying that all conservatives or all tea baggers are gun toting terrorists. But there is a element of the right wing that is more knee-jerk and more threatening than people would like to talk about. If this was the left wing of our country, I would say the exact same thing (like how Bill Ayers was a left-wing terrorist who did damage to his cause).

 

And to your future counter arguments: Yes, we have left-wing eco terrorist in this country. Yes, we had the Crown Heights riot (though that really wasn't political, let alone a liberal problem). Yes, Britan had the isolated incident where kids rioted because they were going to start charging tuition. But you notice I didn't defend that.....

Eh? I don't even know where to begin. First of all, read a book. Crown Heights was a cultural riot, between the Jewish community and the black community. If you can find a political undercurrent there, then you might have a job at Fox News! Secondly, the riots in England are barely if at all Liberal vs. Conservative. These are English kids who are angry at a government which is letting education costs skyrocket. That's a monetary riot, mainly. The political element is that the administration raising prices is (naturally) Conservative. Do I condone their actions? No. In fact, I don't even recall defending any riots, but you can make that fact up if it helps your argument.

 

Crown Heights defenately had political undercurrents, Revrum' Al was there pouring gasoline on the fire and hes as liberal as they come. I would love a job at Fox News to be a famous commentator and have the money that they do.
