CHItransitFan88 Posted February 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2011 So I'm heading up to NYC in 10 days. The first thing on my itinerary is to hit up the 7 and head all the way out to main st and get some dim sum. My big questions is what other lines should I hit after I finish up in Queens? I want some diverse scenery. What are your recs?

lilbluefoxie Posted February 20, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2011 The Brighton line is good , safe too. Astoria is great, right off the 7. The West end and Culver line are good too . Rockaways be careful, I woudlnt venture out to far rockaway unless you are comfortable in high crime areas. Rather transfer for the and go to Rockaway park which is the safer end of the rockaways. The Pelham line is good, the White Plains Rd line again be careful, i was there once and i dont plan on going back unless im with someone who knows the area. The in the bronx is safe, goes thru Riverdale which isnt too bad. I recommend the as well but be careful where you get on and off, it goes thru good areas and bad areas. TrainFanatic Posted February 20, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2011 The is a definite as it offers interesting views of its surrounding neighborhoods in Queens and Brooklyn. The offers very beautiful scenery in the Rockaways. Just make sure to catch the Far Rockaway bound , not the Lefferts Blvd bound . Subway maps are free. Just ask the person in the token booth for one. Enjoy your trip!
CHItransitFan88 Posted February 20, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted February 20, 2011 I think the itinerary is going to be.... out to Flushing Main St Food Back to Queensboro Plaza Down to Brighton To 4av/9th St. To Midtown Any thing good to do around CI in march? How long do you thing this trip will take?
TrainFanatic Posted February 20, 2011 Share #6 Posted February 20, 2011 Interesting trip you set up there as the offers a cool view of the rail yard from Neptune Av to Av X. On CI you can visit the NY Aquarium which is accesible by the or at the West 8th St - NY Aquarium station. It's open 365 days a year. More info can be found here: nyaquarium.com Other then that, unless you like having the whole beach to yourself there really isn't anything else to do on CI in March. 2 Train Master Posted February 20, 2011 Share #8 Posted February 20, 2011 170 and 167th St you can get the Chrysler,Empire State,Court House and Yankee Stadium all in one shot. Beautiful scenery but it's just 2 damn ghetto out there. Culver(Smith-9th) and near Coney Island. (A)nd the Rockaways has some nice views.
SevenEleven Posted February 20, 2011 Share #9 Posted February 20, 2011 All of the above suggestions are good. Try planning your trip where you're either at Coney Island or in Astoria right before the sunset. There's some amazing views from right there and you don't even have to leave the station. Another good ride is over the Manhattan Bridge which is between Canal Street and Atlantic Avenue. For Nassau, ride it over the Willamsburg Bridge which is between the Marcy Avenue and Essex-Delancey Street stations. I would also recommend the line from 125th and above. Here are examples of some suggestions made: Brighton Line Coney Island Beach Broadway Line - Marble Hill Station Astoria - Ditmars Blvd Hope you enjoy your trip. SevenEleven Posted February 20, 2011 Share #12 Posted February 20, 2011 quick question how much time does it save to take the instead of the in manhattan? The runs express all the way through with the exception that it stops at 49th Street. The runs local all the way.
553 Bridgeton Posted February 20, 2011 Share #13 Posted February 20, 2011 Dyre Ave Line is nice, but again if you don't feel comfortable going don't go. The you can get some nice shots there. Here's a nice shot of the Dyre Line. I see your from Chicago, so you may not know about which areas are safe, so if you feel out of place in a area, go with your senses. TrainFanatic Posted February 21, 2011 Share #14 Posted February 21, 2011 I couldn't help myself from posting this but the section from Newkirk Av to Av H on the Brighton line is pretty sweet. Thou I don't want to spoil your trip by posting pictures so yea, be near a window to enjoy the view.
TwoTimer Posted February 21, 2011 Share #15 Posted February 21, 2011 On the line in the Rockaways (especially the Rockaway Park branch) you can actually see the NYC and Newark skylines side by side since NYC is northwest and Newark is due west. However, you would miss the only six track section of the Brighton Line It is also the only 6 track elevated portion in the whole system.
