metsfan Posted March 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2011 http://mta.info/mta/news/hearings/ph_briarwood.html Stupid idea if you ask me. They don't need to widen any more roads in NYC. - A
Amtrak7 Posted March 20, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2011 Even stupider is why such a "procedural" thing requires a public hearing.
Broadway Local Posted March 20, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2011 Oh my god! Why would they need to widen up the Van Wyck Expressway? It's good as it is right now!
Joe Posted March 20, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2011 If it's the entrance that I think it is, sounds like a good idea. It's in a rather-odd location anyway.
lilbluefoxie Posted March 20, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 20, 2011 So, let em widen the road, whats so bad about that? if you need the station just cross the street.

Since you don't have a car and probibly have never ridden on the Van Wyck, You would not know it is an abosulte traffic nightmare south of Flushing Meadows and the sole commerical highway route to JFK and is in desprite need of releif. Just because i choose not to drive does not make me an idiot. I have these things called EYES. Sorry, i don't give a crap about traffic, people should be taking a bus or the train, no excuse not to. Wah wah wah there are other people with cars in front of me wah wah wah. People should learn how to drive before complaining about roads. - A

metsfan Posted March 20, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted March 20, 2011 They should figure something else out then that doesn't involve sacrificing subway accessibility. It isn't rocket science.

Train, alright. But aren't there buses that go via the Van Wyck express way? If so, than the bus is not an option in this particular case since it's stuck in traffic there. Joe Posted March 20, 2011 Share #18 Posted March 20, 2011 i don't give a crap about traffic, people should be taking a bus or the train, no excuse not to. I know this may be hard for you to digest as a liberal, but there are situations where taking the train or bus just isn't practical. For example, I bet you wouldn't like it if someone tried to bring some boxed up furniture on the train, now would you? What about if they brought a computer (I mean a desktop tower, not a laptop) on the train and plopped it on a seat? Would you like that? In fact, you'd probably be the first one to complain, chiefly because you're good at whining.

Has someone who doesn't live in NYC, he knows that no roads should be widened and people should be forced out of their cars. LMFAO! But seriously, the road under QB is as narrow as the WillyB's lanes. You can't drive 'safely' and quickly without worries you might sideswipe the guy next to you. They may as well have made them single lanes the way cars are keeping some distance b/w each other.
SevenEleven Posted March 20, 2011 Share #20 Posted March 20, 2011 The Van Wyck is usually backed up no matter what time of day or night. Jump a X63, 64, or the 68 in the morning and you'll see what I mean.

EE Broadway Local Posted March 21, 2011 Share #22 Posted March 21, 2011 Joe, Are you thinking of the entrance on the south side of Queens Boulevard? That is the one slated for closure at Briarwood-Van Wyck Boulevard. If it's the entrance that I think it is, sounds like a good idea. It's in a rather-odd location anyway. Forest Glen Posted March 21, 2011 Share #23 Posted March 21, 2011 When I used to take the express bus in the morning, the Van Wyck was always bumper to bumper. 3 lanes in each direction isn't sufficient for an expressway.
Joel Up Front Posted March 21, 2011 Share #24 Posted March 21, 2011 Go over the thing on an LIRR train, even in the middle of bum**** AM, to the first off-peak train to Penn Station, it's crowded.
