Abba Posted January 9, 2015 Share #2601 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) was it necessary to make the D run on the Q when it could switch at either dekalb ave or before the split to the bridge? I think what happened was trains ran regular to Pacific then over the N to 57/7 and was via the tunnel to Whitehall.I waited at DeKalb cause I wanted that to Whitehall but then service resumed. Well, there was definitely going to be a backlog of trains coming down 6 Avenue. West 4 Street–Washington Square might not have been turning the trains fast enough, which might've led to some following and trains being sent down Culver, thus, forcing some trains off its own territory. It's just a guess though. I wasn't there.

Wallyhorse Posted January 10, 2015 Share #2613 Posted January 10, 2015 You'd get trains going to Broadway Junction all the time via the Jamaica line. And is that such a bad thing? As trains are only 480 feet (most of the time), they can run in the Eastern Division (most of the time) if need be. Especially if part of the Fulton Street line is out, the going to Broadway Junction via the and then makes sense since it would allow regular riders on the Fulton Street branch to reconnect to that branch at Broadway Junction.

Lance Posted January 10, 2015 Share #2616 Posted January 10, 2015 And is that such a bad thing? Yes, it is. You pitch this idea so often, it's almost like you're getting a check per mention. It's annoying. You're missing a major point though, which is the C doesn't really need to run on the Eastern Division. Even if there was some kind of disruption on Fulton St, the MTA would be better off telling riders to transfer to the M at W 4 St or the J at Fulton St for connecting service. Or better yet, the L at 14 St/8 Av. Running the C over the Jamaica elevated creates too many switching and merging delays to be useful. Such a route would delay the E, F, M and J in that order and that's within a relatively short span of track. Kept forgetting to address this, but I wonder if there would be good use for a sort of retroactive version of the "what "if" thread, where we would use actual diversion that occurred to offer our ideas of what we would have done (instead of scenarios like big chickens running across all tracks, or meteors hitting a station, etc). There's nothing preventing you or anyone else from cross-posting service advisories from here onto the What If thread.
