Unplanned Subway Service Changes

was it necessary to make the D run on the Q when it could switch at either dekalb ave or before the split to the bridge?

I think what happened was (D) trains ran regular to Pacific then over the N to 57/7 and (B) was via the tunnel to Whitehall.I waited at DeKalb cause I wanted that (B) to Whitehall but then service resumed.

Due to a rail condition at Grand Stb.png, d.png, f.png and m.png trains are running with delays in both directions.

Allow additional travel time.

Update:

Due to a rail condition at Grand St, the following service changes are in effect:

There is no b.png train service between DeKalb Av and Bedford Pk Blvd in both directions.

Northbound b.png are running on the r.png line from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Whitehall St-South Ferry and terminate.

Southbound d.png terminate at W 4 St-Washington Square.

Northbound d.png are running on the q.png line from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to 57 St-7Av.

b.png, d.png, f.png and m.png trains are running with delays in both directions

Allow additional travel time.

Interesting with the (B) running to Whitehall and the (D) is running to 57th street-7th avenue. The (F) and (M) is not affected at all but delays

The “delay” was a 20 min. headway for the (M), and (like yesterday) some (F)'s going over the (G). But since it was just a matter of turning the (B) and (D) on the express tracks at W4, the (F) and (M) should not have been affected at all.

Well, there was definitely going to be a backlog of trains coming down 6 Avenue. West 4 Street–Washington Square might not have been turning the trains fast enough, which might've led to some following (B) and (D) trains being sent down Culver, thus, forcing some (F) trains off its own territory.

It's just a guess though. I wasn't there.

Due to an investigation of a customer injury at Broadway,

The following service changes are in effect:

Northbound n.png and q.png trains are terminating at 57 St-7 Av or Queensboro Plaza.

There is no n.png or q.png train service between Queensboro Plaza and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd.

Allow additional travel time.

As an alternative customers can take the Q102 or Q69 bus.

You'd get (C) trains going to Broadway Junction all the time via the Jamaica line.

And is that such a bad thing?

As (C) trains are only 480 feet (most of the time), they can run in the Eastern Division (most of the time) if need be.  Especially if part of the Fulton Street line is out, the (C) going to Broadway Junction via the (M) and then (J) makes sense since it would allow regular riders on the Fulton Street branch to reconnect to that branch at Broadway Junction.

Did someone get hit by a train yesterday? From my experience that's the jargon for one something like this happens

Yes, it is. You pitch this idea so often, it's almost like you're getting a check per mention. It's annoying.

You're missing a major point though, which is the C doesn't really need to run on the Eastern Division. Even if there was some kind of disruption on Fulton St, the MTA would be better off telling riders to transfer to the M at W 4 St or the J at Fulton St for connecting service. Or better yet, the L at 14 St/8 Av. Running the C over the Jamaica elevated creates too many switching and merging delays to be useful. Such a route would delay the E, F, M and J in that order and that's within a relatively short span of track.

Kept forgetting to address this, but I wonder if there would be good use for a sort of retroactive version of the "what "if" thread, where we would use actual diversion that occurred to offer our ideas of what we would have done (instead of scenarios like big chickens running across all tracks, or meteors hitting a station, etc).

There's nothing preventing you or anyone else from cross-posting service advisories from here onto the What If thread.

The entire Queens Corridor is Screwed. The R is going to be Double-Loaded - and then further crushed by people bailing on the heavily delayed expresses. Assuming the rail condition is a broken rail, it was called at like 3pm, could theoretically be fixed by 5. Crossing my fingers.

Everything but 57th St is cleared up - so, the rush could theoretically be okay.
