N1N2 Posted April 15, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 15, 2012 Does anyone have any info on the order of new diesel locos to replace the current fleet of GE 40-ton switchers in work service? I was told by a TA employee that the delivery (via the new 1st Ave. NYNJ Rail-SBK track connection) will occur very soon, as evidenced by this weekend's refurbishment of the the 35th St.-3rd Ave. SBK Yard. theaveragejoe Posted April 15, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 15, 2012 If they did order any it would most likely be an order from Brookville
Kamen Rider Posted April 15, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 15, 2012 No, the placed an order for locomotives ages ago, R156/R174. they just had problems with the prototypes and that was the last I heard of them. drool over page 32 http://www.mobility.siemens.com/mobility/global/de/logistik/frachttransport/Documents/reference_list_locomotives_a19100-v600-b320-x-7600engl.pdf

mark1447 Posted April 15, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 15, 2012 These are not my photos, but here are 3 pics I found. They are similar to the BL20s (MNCR/SIRTOA) I wish the front looked more like the BL20 with the T/A Logo in front. I DID hear that there is one of the Locomotives sitting in the system from a T/O, but that I'm not 100% sure about. No, the placed an order for locomotives ages ago, R156/R174. they just had problems with the prototypes and that was the last I heard of them. drool over page 32 http://www.mobility....-x-7600engl.pdf So these are called the R156/174? The new ones?
The Real Posted April 15, 2012 Share #6 Posted April 15, 2012 They are built by Motive Power Inc, with equipment from Siemens, thats why its in the Siemens reference list. If you look at the Table of Contents it shows that is under Locomotive cooperations which means its not built directly by Siemens but Siemens shares in the componentry. dmouse Posted April 15, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 15, 2012 Diesel Engine + Siemens AC propulsion/Kawasaki trucks. This'll be interesting. They're going to have those horrid Ebells too (ebells are Electronic railroad bells)

INDman Posted April 17, 2012 Share #9 Posted April 17, 2012 That thing is ugly as sin, not even a coat of paint would make it look better.
overclocked Posted April 17, 2012 Share #10 Posted April 17, 2012 Jeez, it's just a work train, which is not meant to be aesthetically pleasant. It's rather important whether it can do it's tasks or not.
trainfan22 Posted April 17, 2012 Share #11 Posted April 17, 2012 Can that locomotive even fit in the IRT? Looks kinda long... I'm shocked at the size of these engines, I was expecting it to be small like current work locomotives. I'm assuming the pictures make it look bigger than it actually is. Gonna be cool to see that engine travel though the system whenever they run in service.
INDman Posted April 17, 2012 Share #12 Posted April 17, 2012 It's about 50' long and 9' wide so it will fit on the IRT.
Fan Railer Posted April 17, 2012 Share #13 Posted April 17, 2012 http://www.trainorde...2738653,2738708 So they are apparently designated the MP 8AC-3 by model. Can't wait to see these rolling around the system.
KeystoneRegional Posted April 17, 2012 Share #14 Posted April 17, 2012 Looks like it's NYCT Designated R156, and technically designated MP 8AC-3.
dmouse Posted April 18, 2012 Share #15 Posted April 18, 2012 Its already in shipment, film its delivery anyone? Also interesting, the engine has HEP a railroad entity An is not a genset!

INDman Posted April 18, 2012 Share #17 Posted April 18, 2012 Are you serious?! What, am I the first person to say that a train or locomotive is ugly? Give me a f**king break.
m7zanr160s Posted April 19, 2012 Share #18 Posted April 19, 2012 I like this one, it's very unique. I like the fact that is has R160 trucks. Will it make the propulsion sound?

Some T/O said there is one somewhere in the system. Last seen at Unionport YD but no longer. Dk if its true. Are you serious?! This is the BALLS chief. It looks good in my view, but the front I don't like. I wish it looked a lot more like the BL20s!

Orion VII 4 Life Posted April 20, 2012 Share #22 Posted April 20, 2012 They look fine if you ask me, I definitely like how they used the new paint scheme MNRR's been using instead of the usual work train yellow. I'm also happy to see MotivePower products coming into the NY area, and I can't wait to hear the propulsion on these.

Joel Up Front Posted April 20, 2012 Share #24 Posted April 20, 2012 None of that applies considering all the work trains look the same.
KeystoneRegional Posted April 20, 2012 Share #25 Posted April 20, 2012 This will certainly be more powerful than some of the work trains the NYC Subway uses, hopefully it'll run fast and not slow and so "jolty" like the current work locos.
