(F) because it runs on a (partial) IND line in Brooklyn?

(D) because it's the only one that runs to the Bronx?

1) No. The M also runs on former IND trackage (Queens Blvd, 6th Avenue)

2) Again, technically correct, but not the answer I'm looking for.

Think historically.

E - doesn't serve Brooklyn

Next one: D, F, M, Q; Which of these doesn't belong and for what reason?

The yellow circle BMT (Q). Either because:

1) R160's do not normally run on the (D)

2) The yellow circle (Q) is a newest letter designation out of the four not established until the start of the last Manhattan Bridge closure along with the diamond Q. Never mind, of course the newest one is the (M)

3)The (Q) does not run on IND track in its entirety.

4) In Dec 2016 the (Q) will be the only train with an extension through the Second Ave line. < That's gotta be the answer if we are talking about thinking history from your clue!

And now I'm grasping for straws.....

@pjbr40:

Correct, but still not the one I'm looking for.

@realizm:

All your answers are again technically correct, but it's not what I'm looking for.

@Q43LTD: You're close. Real close.

Think about which lettered lines served each of the trunk lines (such as the Brighton or Culver) throughout the years. I'll give the answer sometime this afternoon if no one gets it.

Unless we are getting into name designations now as the (Q) as a Brighton line route had at least 3 letter designations and one number designation before its current letter designation: QJ, QT, QB and the original BMT 1.

So the (Q) doesnt belong. Either way.
