Amtrak7 Posted April 25, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2014 Surprised this hasn't made the media yet. According to the board materials, the Q103 will receive weekend and evening service, and the Q19 will be extended to 2 St, beginning this June. Q102 will be streamlined. http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/140428_1030_transit-bus.pdf Start on PDF page
Q43LTD Posted April 25, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2014 Evening and weekend service for the 103? How odd...

Q43LTD Posted April 26, 2014 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2014 I would have routed the 19 differently west of 21 St. It would use 27 Avenue instead of Astoria since statistics show that those stops are lightly used. I would also expand its hours of service...
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted April 26, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 26, 2014 Im assuming the Q103 will run every hour on Saturdays and Sundays, right?
Q43LTD Posted April 26, 2014 Share #6 Posted April 26, 2014 Im assuming the Q103 will run every hour on Saturdays and Sundays, right?More than likely. Or 30 minute headways...
aemoreira81 Posted April 26, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 26, 2014 Love it, but I would make one change to it on the Q19 westbound. Instead of having the Q19 westbound turn at 21 Street, I would have it turn at Crescent Street (which is a wide southbound-only street), and have it re-join Astoria Boulevard there, and travel to 2 Street. Q101viaSteinway Posted April 26, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 26, 2014 Over there Crescent St is not as wide as south of 30 Av. Around the area you making suggestion, Crescent St is narrow and traffic clog street.
GojiMet86 Posted April 26, 2014 Share #9 Posted April 26, 2014 Finally, some good service enhancements for Astoria. That Q19 will provide a new opportunity for people in those new complexes to reach the subway. And that Q103 enhancement is a long time coming. Amtrak7 Posted April 26, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted April 26, 2014 Im assuming the Q103 will run every hour on Saturdays and Sundays, right? Probably half hourly, that's the base local MTA headway.
T J Trainman Posted April 26, 2014 Share #11 Posted April 26, 2014 I think they should have the 19 Astoria bound hang a left onto 31st then a right in to Astoria blvd and then straight to the end.
GojiMet86 Posted April 26, 2014 Share #12 Posted April 26, 2014 I think they should have the 19 Astoria bound hang a left onto 31st then a right in to Astoria blvd and then straight to the end. Not with all the traffic that hits Hoyt Avenue from the bridge and the ordinary 31st street traffic. I had a ride on the shuttle some days ago, and the bus crawled for like 7 minutes in that little stretch between Hoyt North and Astoria Blvd, on a weekend. Plus it blocked the intersection at Hoyt South and 31st Street for about 3 eastbound lights.
aemoreira81 Posted April 26, 2014 Share #13 Posted April 26, 2014 I think they should have the 19 Astoria bound hang a left onto 31st then a right in to Astoria blvd and then straight to the end. Without the introduction of a third phase at 33 Street, there is no way that that turn is feasible, with traffic coming off of the Grand Central. NewFlyer 230 Posted April 26, 2014 Share #14 Posted April 26, 2014 Probably half hourly, that's the base local MTA headway. Well I guess it doesn't count for the Q67 which has hourly service. I see that the Q103 is improving but how high will the ridership on that route get. It does not past any major point except for 21st which it still competes with the Q102 in that area. I thinks it's a waste for weekend service.

B35 via Church Posted April 26, 2014 Share #16 Posted April 26, 2014 The Q103, That's good that it's getting increased service, but I hope this isn't one of those increases where the riders aren't using the increased service (to the tune that they should anyway).... The Q102, well something had to be the sacrificial lamb for these changes.... (let's see who gets what I mean by that) The Q19, Good - it's a long time coming... Fact of the matter is, it ending at Astoria Blvd was too abrupt...
Q43LTD Posted April 27, 2014 Share #17 Posted April 27, 2014 Seems like this kills any possibility of a B32/Q103 merger. A little off topic, but I think the 112 may be streamlined down the road...
Gotham Bus Co. Posted April 27, 2014 Share #18 Posted April 27, 2014 Seems like this kills any possibility of a B32/Q103 merger. A little off topic, but I think the 112 may be streamlined down the road... If anything, I would have merged the Q103 with the Q19 — except that the Q19 extension will pretty much rule that out.
