There could be a historic veto override of the sports betting bill:

http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf/2014/08/september_showdown_set_to_override_chris_christies_sports-betting_veto_mulshine.html

especially in the wake of 3 casinos closing

But even if they squash the veto (from what I understand about this) it could take a while longer and the damage is already done

Christie administration/ AG issued a directive for law enforcement to not prosecute casinos and racetracks who offer sports betting.

AC Casinos with ties to Las Vegas won't offer it immediately, however... William Hill US which has a sports book at Monmouth Park racetrack also operates over 100 licensed sports books in Nevada for casinos, and hopes to begin taking bets at Monmouth Park as soon as possible

The only casinos with no ties to Vegas or other states is Trump... but they filed for bankruptcy, and the Taj is expected to close Nov. 13 unless they can restructure their debt, could also be a court showdown between Donald Trump and Carl Icahn

I was at the Trop and Caesars and both seemed pretty busy.

I'm just really worried about a Detroit effect hitting AC, and Christie and these other pols don't seem to get the very real possibility of that happening. If the mass layoffs and closings keep up people could board up their homes and leave, just like in Detroit, and that won't be any good for whatever's left. Even the busy casinos like Trop and Caesars will be in a bad position if people start to abandon AC. And it's nice that NJ is now giving people the freedom of sports betting, but allowing it outside AC isn't gonna solve any of its problems. The fact that AC could become like some of the old resort towns upstate or worse, Detroit is a very REAL possibility that the pols are just ignoring. But really, what can they do? NY and PA have casinos now and they're not going anywhere, and soon NJ will have to open casinos in other parts of the state to keep gambling revenue coming in, and then every last customer in AC except from the retirement towns down there will be playing somewhere else. But these pols being so optimistic, saying it'll be a "family town" or whatever (BS) instead of making plans for the inevitable future is only making AC's situation worse and it better stop after the elections. Start thinking honestly...what will we do with AC when the last casino shuts its doors?

Christie held a summit on Monday with city leaders, casino executives, and politicians.... he put everything on the table and certain tasks that must be met, Christie will reconvene with them again.

There is a consideration for the city to follow Camden's footsteps and create a county-wide police force, replacing the city's police department

Big casino news developments from today:

First: a developer from Florida will buy the Revel for $90 million cash

Second: NJ regulators are letting MGM resorts back into the Atlantic City

Important updates:

1. Revel is being bought by Brookfield Asset Management which also owns the Hard Rock casino in Las Vegas and the Atlantis Casino in the Bahamas.... will reopen as a casino, probably under a new name.

2. today, a bankruptcy judge has voided the union contract with Trump Taj Mahal casino... meaning that casino could be saved from closing, if the state provides $175 million in tax breaks http://www.cnbc.com/id/102090899

3. Christie signed a new sports betting bill, sports betting can begin this Sunday at Monmouth Park racetrack http://espn.go.com/espn/chalk/story/_/id/11718151/governor-chris-christie-signs-new-jersey-sports-betting-bill-law

Been paying attention to the passenger traffic on the locals.

501: still normal

502: sardine can as always, in fact it could use a few extra buses

504: still normal

505: the fast headways keep any one buses from being over crowded, however, going to margate/longport in the am they could run 2-3 buses a little bit closer.

507: still normal

508: this line seriously needs better headways and needs to be seperated from the 507/509. Its over crowded always, and is always standing room only before you reach Absecon. Going to Absecon/Galloway twp for get about a seat. There was talk about making it a full service line.

509: suffers from being late due to it being interlined with the 507/508, crowded at times, needs to stay on the expressway.

Passenger traffic is not dying. Full service lines are still the same.

Have you actually operated on one of those routes?

75 was cut besides one can use 194 to the train if they need Newark.

Yes I know that, but that's not my point. I was saying that the 75 was a restructured 15. They basically took the 15, which was an exact fare line using transits running along Bloomfield Avenue and made it a full service line using MCI's and sent it on 280 between Newark and West Orange and gave it a new number.
