BenTheMiner Posted September 23, 2023 Share #26 Posted September 23, 2023 There has been a claim from an employee that 40 R46 cars has been retired. I'm not sure how true this is, but I will start tracking the last time ALL Pitkin R46 sets ran (as opposed to just the married pairs).

Lawrence St Posted September 24, 2023 Share #29 Posted September 24, 2023 Honestly this should be renamed the R44/46 retirement thread since both classes are getting retired by the R211’s.

The R44s will be gone in an instant once the R211S arrive en masse. The R46s will linger on until the very end of the order. And of course they are isolated on Staten Island and most of us never see them. But go ahead and list them here when it happens.

Imagine that there was an alternate universe where the R211s weren't made while the R46s and the R44s from Staten Island kept running as long forever. Yet, they are still retiring in this universe thanks to the R211s.

You want old cars to run forever, go get yourself a O or HO scale of them.

I have 1/3 of my collection in that scale. 1/3 in 1/43 & 1/3 in 1/50, 1/64 & 1/76
BenTheMiner Posted September 26, 2023 Share #42 Posted September 26, 2023 6244+6246 has been spotted in Pitkin Yard next to 6248+6250. It has its taillights on and appears to be missing a rollsign box.

BenTheMiner Posted September 28, 2023 Share #45 Posted September 28, 2023 Below are the R46 married pairs seen in Pitkin Yard but have not been in service lately: 6216+6218 6220+6222 6228+6230 6244+6246 6248+6250 6252+6254
BenTheMiner Posted September 28, 2023 Share #46 Posted September 28, 2023 Some important context: 207 Street Yard does not maintain any R46 cars. This is the reason why they often go to Coney Island Yard for maintenance.

zacster Posted October 5, 2023 Author Share #50 Posted October 5, 2023 I look at your list and the 3 sets that haven't run since August could easily just be out for service. There'll always be some that are sidelined in every car class.
