4P3607 Posted October 23, 2023 Share #79 Posted October 23, 2023 6244-6246 has returned to service with Rollsigns intact and is on the south end of a Northbound currently heading to 207 St. I missed seeing what A-A pair it was linked to by a split second.
zacster Posted October 25, 2023 Author Share #80 Posted October 25, 2023 Apparently they are all back in service, as long as it moves.
BenTheMiner Posted October 25, 2023 Share #81 Posted October 25, 2023 Status of R46 married pairs: 6208+10 10/20 6216+8 10/25 !!!6220+2 7/26 6224+6 10/20 !!!6228+30 8/13 or 26 6232+4 10/25 6236+8 10/18 6240+2 10/25 6244+6 10/25 6248+50 10/25 !!!6252+4 8/27, in 207 St Yard 10/20 6256+8 10/25 Some of the other pairs have stopped running. It's possible that they have been swapped out for service by the other ones that have returned to service like 6244+6246. Either way, this means that 6244+6246 is not retired nor being used for parts. However, it going to CIY was still likely true, though for maintenance. Additionally, 6252+6254 has been confirmed to be in 207 St Yard by itself. Now that's interesting...

If the car was younger and not part of a fleet that is in the process of retirement it would most likely be renumbered and returned to service after any repairs if necessary. zacster Posted November 8, 2023 Author Share #87 Posted November 8, 2023 If they still wanted to use 5551 they wouldn't have parted out the rest of the set.

BenTheMiner Posted November 19, 2023 Share #89 Posted November 19, 2023 R46 married pair 6252+6254 has returned to service (despite being seen by itself in 207th Street Yard for whatever reason). At this point, only one married pair has not seen in service... yet. This likely means that none of the married pairs were actually retired. However, there is also a possibility that units could be reactivated for whatever reason such as when the R211 was taken out of service.

BenTheMiner Posted December 1, 2023 Share #93 Posted December 1, 2023 R46 5550, 5552, and 5553 appear to have been moved back to the Belt Parkway side of Coney Island Yard coupled together as a 3 car set. It is on a track by itself.
zacster Posted December 2, 2023 Author Share #94 Posted December 2, 2023 Maybe they'd run that as part of a 7 car C train? Or have they already been cannibalized or written off?

Given the supposed car shortage and the fact that the C runs a mix of 480' and 600' trains they could've used the other 3 cars to make a 525' train. But they didn't and they did the other thing I speculated, cannibalized them. Once the R211s are back there won't be a car shortage.

Once the R211s are back there won't be a car shortage. unfortunately, that would not work in terms of stopping patterns in one direction. theoretically that would work for example- uptown, but downtown you'd need a special 9-car marker and boards to line up for that one R46 train consist, and you'd have too make sure the train doesn't loop around so that the 'triple' doesn't end up on the wrong end of the train. Other ideas: 1. Just retire all 4 cars 2. Make 5550-5552 an A-A set and transfer to the line / retire 5553 3. Add 6214 to the set and make the set 5550-6214-5553-5552
