Mysterious2train Posted September 30, 2011 Share #308 Posted September 30, 2011 Remember that a part of Broadway is closed to cars so a straight run down is impossible. Plus the part of Broadway below 59th St that isn't closed is one-way Southbound, so how would it get up North?

Gorgor Posted October 4, 2011 Share #315 Posted October 4, 2011 Restructured M30 Basically the trips towards the Upper East Side will be much faster by avoiding all the Midtown traffic and going through the park. The East Drive between 59th/6th and 72nd/5th are open every weekday from 7AM to 7PM. Any buses later than that will take 57th to Madison and then make a right turn on 72nd. It will also help riders along York Avenue because of the ridiculously unreliable and infrequent M31.
FamousNYLover Posted October 4, 2011 Share #316 Posted October 4, 2011 Gorgor, I think East Drive will not help (M30) either because sometimes there`s traffic on Madison Av up to 79th St. Maybe if park could create a bus lane on East Drive or make (M30) Trolley Bus with Farebox.

Gorgor Posted October 8, 2011 Share #322 Posted October 8, 2011 Would this work? This is a completely serious idea and could definitely work. New route = Dark green, old route = light green. BxM18/X90 combo
engineerboy6561 Posted October 8, 2011 Share #323 Posted October 8, 2011 Would this work? This is a completely serious idea and could definitely work. New route = Dark green, old route = light green. BxM18/X90 combo That's actually an incredibly sensible idea; given that all of the BxM18 express runs I've been on have never had more than ten people on them at a time and the X90 would probably carry if it were scheduled properly combining them might put the combo over the usage threshold. I didn't float the ideas here, but I was considering folding the line into either the BxM2 (straight extension along Varick, Canal, and 6 Av, transfer point in front of Mt. Sinai Hospital) or the former BxM7B (BxM18 route south of 23 St, BxM7B route north of 26 St). Would anyone be interested in a "what shall we do with the BxM18" thread?

Yeah it'll definitely gain a whole lot of ridership. Even though it'll take longer to get Downtown than the subway there will always be people wanting to use it so that they get a comfortable seat and don't have to deal with the immensely overcrowded subway. Heck, even if they kept the BxM18 route the exact same as it is now but added stops along 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue at places like 67th, 72nd, 79th, and 86th, it would still get a ton of ridership from the Upper East Side.
IRT Bronx Express Posted October 12, 2011 Share #325 Posted October 12, 2011 I don't know if I mentioned this... I'd revive the Bx54 original route, and extend it to two neighborhoods (split service). After Metropolitan Ave/Purdy St, it would travel to Castle Hill Ave, E. Tremont Ave, and Westchester Av, then: Branch #1 via the former Bx23 path to Ellsworth Av/Schley Ave. (essentially, the Bx8 today) Branch #2 it would continue to Pelham Bay and then head to City Island via the Bx29 path. (I had planned to send it to Country Club, but I changed my mind.. )
