Shortline Bus Posted April 28, 2011 Share #101 Posted April 28, 2011 I have my own plan; sue to force YES and SNY to broadcast over the airwaves, because they are stiffing anyone who can't afford cable or satilite. Then you have to do it for all of the cable sports channel across America. With the free channels devoted to cheap reality shows, the chances of most or all of the MLB games and sports in general (except the NFL)on free tv is basically over. Kamen be lucky you not in Boston(Red Sox) Pittsburgh(Pirates)and St Louis(Cardinals) as all of those teams games are now only on Cable i.e NESN or Fox Sports Net. When I was growing up in the 1980's, Ch.9 then the home of the Mets and Ch.11 then the home of the Yankees would show about 100-110 games a season. Also most of the Knicks, Rangers, Nets and Islander 'road' games were shown on Ch.9 as well. All on 'free tv.' Man those were the good ole' days. Listening to Bob Murphy, Ralph Kiner and later Tim McCarver and Gary Thorne on the Mets broadcast crew. While the 'Scooter' Phil Rizzuto, Bill White, Frank Messer and later Bobby Murcer, Tom Seaver and Tony Kubeck doing the games for the Yankees. Sorry Kamen you missed a great era. PATCOman Posted April 28, 2011 Share #102 Posted April 28, 2011 In other MLB news, the Oakland Coliseum briefly known for few years last decade circa 1998-2002 as Network Associates Coliesum has been renamed again. Check this out guys "Overstock.com Coliseum at Oakland." No joke. The stadium home to both the A's and NFL Raiders since 1967-'68, is the last stadium in America that is the home to both a MLB and NFL club at same time. Here link. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/0...er=rss&emc=rss IMO I don't see the point as both the Raiders and A's maybe both be gone within 3-5 years from that aging stadium. Sun Life Stadium or whatever it is called still hosts the Marlins and Dolphins. Grand Concourse Posted April 29, 2011 Share #103 Posted April 29, 2011 Not meant to sound like Forest Glen but I got to say this. Rafael Soriano has been terrible as the '8th inning' specialist/Co-Closer to Rivera this season. Last night 4/26/11 he blows a great start by CC and Yanks lose a game to the Chisox. With Hughes hurt, Soriano better improve as the Yanks really need him. Maybe the spotlight on NYC is getting to him but so far he been a huge disappointment. I know it's still early in the season, but he someone you have to worry about if you a Yankees fan. For the money he is being paid, yes Soirano needs to step it up. Otoh, I can give him some leniency till the AS break since he came from a team of almost half the attendence to the Yankees. If he doesn't improve by then, there will be hell to pay. On the flip side, Garcia and Colon have been a wonderful surprise so far. I was really sceptical about Colon, but damn, that game against the ChiSox was incredible. If he can hold down the fort till July, I'm satisfied. Put Hughes in the pen till Colon or Garcia breaks down, cuz they are much better with them than an ineffective Hughes. Shortline Bus Posted April 29, 2011 Share #104 Posted April 29, 2011 Sun Life Stadium or whatever it is called still hosts the Marlins and Dolphins. The Marlins are moving to a new ballpark at the former Orange Bowl Football Stadium next season. The Orange Bowl Stadium was of course the 'oringal' home of the Miami Dolphins. Shortline Bus Posted May 1, 2011 Share #105 Posted May 1, 2011 Here an intresting article that might intrest someones like Grand Concourse. It's from USA Today in which MLB is trying to adjust in addressing declining ticket sales. The league smaller market Midwest teams i.e Indians, Tigers and Reds play in cities hardest hit by the recession. Not to mention a region that losing residents to the 'sun belt.' http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2011-04-28-baseball-attendance-population_N.htm

Shortline Bus Posted May 15, 2011 Share #107 Posted May 15, 2011 This MLB update is presented by In and out Burgers. So with the season now 6 weeks in, any comments guys on Yankees, Mets or anyone else in MLB? To me the biggest surprised as of tonight 5/14/11 have been the Royals, Indians and Cardinals. The other night the Royals promoted from the minors their most hearlded rookie prospect since at least Bo Jackson in Eric Hosmer. Here video clip from the NBC Kansas City, Mo station. Shortline Bus Posted May 15, 2011 Share #108 Posted May 15, 2011 While the Yanks were losing to the Red Sox 6-0 a bigger news story was occuring. Jorde Posada in a slump was shifted to bat in 9th spot. Posada was so unhappy he walked out of the clubhouse prior to game. That what ESPN and Fox Sports are reporting. So I won't be shocked this Giaradi/Posada 'feud' is front story on Sunday's Daily News and NY Post. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2011/05/14/2011-05-14_jorge_posada_dropped_to_ninth_in_lineup_vs_red_sox_as_yankees_dh_continues_to_st.html
Forest Glen Posted May 15, 2011 Share #109 Posted May 15, 2011 It's a double standard. When Jeter was slumping, they didn't demote him.
B35 via Church Posted May 15, 2011 Share #110 Posted May 15, 2011 the "untouchable" Jeter, of course not.... .....but I do think Posada is on some other shit lately... I never forget the tantrum he threw in a preseason game after getting struck out; slamming the bat on the plate as many times as he said "f***".... I thought he was going berserk that day.... I'm sittin there watchin that unfold, and I'm like wooooowwww.... Watching his AB's (and his demeanor) so far into the reg. season, the guy is clearly disgruntled... Retirement is knockin on his door.... and for his sake, he should answer it... and treat it to to breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the process..... Posada is well respected by both current and former Yankees. However his actions over his 'demotion' is an example why his rumored dream of being a MLB Manager will be diffcult. Shortline Bus Posted May 17, 2011 Share #112 Posted May 17, 2011 Yankees last night 5/16/11 lost their 6th straight game this in St Petersburgh to the Rays. The Bombers are in middle of worst slump of season. Yankees now 3 games behind the 1st Place Rays at 20 wins and 19 losses.
Grand Concourse Posted May 17, 2011 Share #113 Posted May 17, 2011 Well Burnett finally blew up, just a matter of time. Concidering the players they have, I'm surprised the starting rotation has been fairly decent while the pen, especially Joba and Soriano have sucked. I still have to be pessimistic of their chances this year, but it's still really early in the season to hit the panic button.
Shortline Bus Posted May 17, 2011 Share #114 Posted May 17, 2011 Some sad news from MLB today. Twins MLB Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew probably the best player in team history(sorry Kirby or Justin) had died from cancer. http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2011/05/17/hall-of-famer-harmon-killebrew-passes-away/

Guys just appericate as much as you can, the living HOF's like Mays, Aaron, Koufax, etc. who played in era free from PED's.
Shortline Bus Posted May 19, 2011 Share #116 Posted May 19, 2011 Yankees won last night/early this morning (5/19/11)a 15-inning marathon vs the Birds. Bombers won game 4-1. Anyone saw that entire game? Also MLB is going to have alot makeups later in season as over last few days many games around the country have been cancelled due to record breaking rainfall across the US. Locomotion69 Posted May 19, 2011 Share #117 Posted May 19, 2011 Tex saved the game, did you see that diving catch from Arod's throw? I watched up until the 12th inning. Why take out Colon after just 87 pitches? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Yankees having trouble beating the Orioles who they have always dominated. I was spending most of night watching the Bulls/Heat and Canucks/Sharks games. I did catch the last couple of innings and had turned off the tv for bed when Mariano was coming into the game. Damn i missed watching the end to one of the best games of the regular season. Shortline Bus Posted May 20, 2011 Share #119 Posted May 20, 2011 The 2011 "subway series' gets underway tonight as the Yanks host the Mets. Has the exictement of the subway series died down from when it started 14 years ago?

Shortline Bus Posted May 20, 2011 Share #121 Posted May 20, 2011 I think every team has been rained out at least once. I am sure that the other big reason(besides the economy)why tickets sales across MLB is down 1-2% from last year. Shifting gears. Thank God I have MLB Network. While I am a NBA fan, ESPN has this afternoon's sportscenter show gone overboard w/ the Heat and the NBA Semifinals. Man this is the first really set of good games all season this weekend with interleague. ESPN has given basically no coverage. ESPN should just be known now as the NBA and College Football channel. Shortline Bus Posted May 21, 2011 Share #123 Posted May 21, 2011 My has time changed. Mets beat Yanks 2-1 and yet no one here on NYCTF is talking. Unless the Yanks and Mets are realigned to same division, they should only meet for 1-series(3 games)a year. The subway series has lost some of it's luster.
