Today's Observation in South Jersey

Went out today, checked out the bus scene and here's what I saw:

1]Some NOVAs still hanging out at Newton Ave Garage. Saw 1134, 1202, 1204 and 1207 in various areas.

2]8852 is still at Washington Twp. Saw that bus at WRTC

3]More 5900's are in service. Saw 5916, 5927, 5928, 5930 and 5934 on various lines in Camden.

4]So the 5900 fleet looks like this: 5907-5918, then 5924-5934 at Newton Ave. This takes out most of the NOVAs [there were 24 NOVAs assigned to Newton Ave], now if there's more 5900's coming down, will they go to Washington Twp or Will they come to Newton Ave and then Newton will send their 5300's to Wash. Twp.

5]Why in the hell do all of the NABIs sport that "My Connection -HBLR" sticker on the buses WHEN THEY ARE ASSIGNED TO GARAGES IN RIVERLINE COUNTRY ?

All buses assigned to the Southern Division should display stickers promoting the RiverLINE, not the HBLR![because most Southern Division bus routes connect with the RiverLINE not the HBLR!]. As a South Jersey resident, I am "offended" at such a display. Either change it to the RiverLINE or take the damn things off the buses! [The sticker is in the right corner on the front door.]

Finally does anyone in the know about bus assignments at NJT know what's next for Newton and Wash. Twp. garages? Which buses are coming or going?

I went to AC area today to winterize shore house... Wondering when will Egg Harbor get NABIs?

Also, I noticed an MCI 45' that said 319 Atlantic City... Did they remove "via Toms River" on those trips since all buses year round serve Toms River?

sadly ppl are too dumb to realize what is what the via toms river sign is simply idiot proofing the line

I've noticed that at times too. I don't know if there are two codes or some buses have different programming. IMO, the "via Toms River" needs to be there because lets face it....people are stupid!

It's 2 codes you have to put in to show "via Toms River" if it just says "319 Atlantic City" it a super express extra run or the driver didn't know the code for "via Toms River". We frequently have to add a super express skipping Toms River at the last min if the crowds get insane. It's a ton of 319 codes too much for me to go into detail. All AC

/NY bound 319s must say "AC via Toms River or NY via Toms River" unless otherwise told.

Yet I still can't understand why it's bihourly during non summer months?? yes NJT gave greyhound the route but even those buses aren't enough to deal with the crowds to hear you tell it. I told some NJT guys at a feedback stand about the 400's and 553's crowding problems a few days back I didn't have much to say to em. Sadly even they aren't transit savvy one drove from SI and didn't even know MTA ran the S89. at all he didn't even know it's existence WTF it links at bayonne with NJT.

5 extra buses was added to the 553 wen we got those buses from washington twp. And still have crowding problems. Just like I told one of the higher ups the 553 needs to be running every 10 mins from 505am to 728pm And run every 20 mins until 505am. Buses at night....well if I said sardine can that would be nice.

WTF I didn't have that experience when I used 553 I used it first to last from bridgeton to atlantic city. I was sleeping however. Is 553 really that bad??? which stops crushload the 553 so badly???

Maybe zucker can come up with something o well.

They need to stop putting 40s on the 553. Last time I was in AC the line for the 553 was beyond insane....bus left with a full seated and standing load right out the ACBT!

That should be a mandatory 45' line. I would send the 40's to Howell and send Egg Harbour the 9000s and 7100s.

woah damn to think a line that seemingly goes through middle of nowhere carries that much is beyond my understanding. When I first took it I was surprised it was 24/7 I saw the line at AC then realized soon why. The driver said it's the 2nd most profitable line if 553 is 2nd then what is first???? What line can possibly be more profitable than 553???

Lets talk about the 554 having an NABI tonight!!!

I was riding on 554 (7530) coming home from work ( toward Lindenwold PATCO) this evening and as we got to Gibbsboro Road, I looked on the other side and saw 5359 running on the 554 to Atlantic City, I had to adjust my eyes because it was just something so rare to see. I am guessing that an MCI broke down and since it was rush hour the Turnersville garage had none to spare, especially now that some of their MCIs have been sent elsewhere.

They need to do something, try standing for 20 mins till the first stop @ the Hamilton Mall. My 553s I make sure I ask for a 45' cause Im not beat. Howell has exactly 22 9000s which would pretty much help BIG TIME. We added 5 buses and it like nothing was added smh.

As for running in the middle of nowhere it may look like on us40 but go down on those side streets and it's condos and houses and so on, same with route 49. They are building all of these new housing within walking distance of the 553. Vineland is booming and it's one of the largest cities in NJ. Has a very high Spanish Mexican Jamaican Arab/Indian and growing Brazilian population. Everyone seems to work at a casino. Vineland there is something new going up everyday. Tons work at the South Jersey medical ctr, the college buses are a automatic sardine can. There's a bus stop every other block in Vineland including the bus terminal then after we leave there not even a block away is another bus stop(ON THE SAME BLOCK). This is the 166 in the south.

Let me just say 5 buses in 20 mins did the trick. And 2 buses 40 seconds apart helped big time. Now send us more buses so it can stay like this. Now they just adding service to the levels of the day which is good.

I actually approached NJT planners a few days back and told them everything I saw on 553 as well. I mentioned 313 but 313 runs like crap BUT it's ridership says it needs more

The ridership of the 313 is Glassboro people... Yes there needs to be more 313 trips. It runs like an express variant of the 408 and 412.

A idea I gave was to move the 313 to main rd and put the 408 on Delsea dr with the 553. And start the new 313 in Millville and keep the same frequency it does going to wildwood-cape may now for the wildwood-cape may 313s. 313 would run every hr between Millville-Vineland and Glassboro/Rowan Uni. And continues on as the Camden-Philadelphia exp like it does now. Another even better plan would be to send it on 55 right after it leaves the Vineland bus terminal to exit 50 Glassboro-Rowan exit. Then get on at exit 56 like it does.

I do the 313 so I'm saying what's the most logical. The 313 doing down Delsea from high street in glassboro to Vineland bus terminal is pointless.

Agreed I suggested the same thing at a meeting in 2010 I typed that in my southern NJ plan actually. But 313 service entirely is enhanced but it runs every 2 hours south of millville to cape may by absorbing funds away from capemay fare free dial a bus which is funded by NJT if those funds were used to merge 552 short turns with 315 (via faster routing) to philly Or via rte 73 Or a local line to egg harbor via rte 50 timed with ACRL trains. The road network in cape may is easy to cover and as a result NJT as infrequent as they are their fixed routes cover more than 90% of cape may. Ridership increases due to new crosstowns in gloucester to chester,PA and wilmington,DE connecting parts of SWNJ to the intercity bus network and DART network from wilmington and a park and ride. I agree 100% with the 313 speed enhancement with the limited stops.

While waiting for the 136 freehold mall express two doors over last week, I had some woman grab my hoody sleeve in panic asking me "is that 319 going to toms river".... b/c I saw her peek as if she was about to board the bus, but then turned back (guess the "via toms river" wasn't displayed on the signage)....

My exact words were "don't they all?... go ask the bus driver... don't grab on me like that, the *expletive* is wrong with you".... she then apologized and darted towards the idling bus.... I was hoping it pulled off by then.

So I wasn't goin nuts.... I also saw a NABI on the 554 last time I went out to AC.... It struck me as odd....

anyway, it left the bus terminal with a grand total of 3 people on it....

You don't have to answer this, but do you do the 313 on saturdays (more specifically, that 2pm run out of phiily).... and are you an Eagles fan?
