(edited to add active. inactive ones aren't assigned anywhere!) Assigned means that it is parked there when its done with its trips for the day. In normal operations cars assigned to E180 end up parked at 239 and Livonia, Cars assigned to Jamaica and Concourse, end up parked at Coney Island, Cars assigned to Pitkin and 207 regularly end up at the other, cars assigned to Mosholu end up parked at Concourse and Livonia. The list goes on. In fact, Every single yard has cars assigned to it which will be laid up somewhere else many nights. Assignments have to do with maintenance.
