Anyone know how many Track Worker positions are open on estimate for all eligible candidates for our exam # 3600? 100's? 1000's? Just wondering..?

Keep in mind that just like for the B/O exam, Track Worker is only an entry-level position, and people can take promotions or move to other positions, which I'm going to let the Track workers elaborate on. In addition, I believe there are enough positions because for all of the 12,000+ people on the list, because not everyone will make it through the hiring process, since they will either fail the drug test, medical OR the 6-week training (3 weeks in a classroom, 3 on the road). Plus, some people change their minds as well.

 

scored 100 on the test, list # 104. how long before they get the ball rolling and start calling people in for drug tests and all that stuff.

LIST ESTABLISHMENT / NOTICE OF RESULTS: (UPDATED)

The list for Track Worker has been made public effective October 22, 2014. All candidates should receive their official Notice of Results in early November 2014. When a list is made public, results are released but the list will not be used for hiring purposes for an additional 60 days. Please refer to the additional information sheet included with your Notice of Results on what numbers to call to check on list status.

 

Based on this information,my educated guess is that within the next four [4] months the people towards the top of the list should hear something. Keep in mind that there was a promotional exam, so I have no clue what's going on with that. In addition, the list is only good for 4 years (maybe 4 & 1/2), and with 12,000 + people to go through, that is not a lot of time.

Finally figured out how to leave a comment on here, lol. Transit only do classes of about 30 people at a time once a month so it'll take some time before they get to the higher numbers 1,000+. There are some variables that can speed the list up...people declining the position, drug test failure, etc. but for the most part just assume 2yrs if you're up there in numbers. I have a friend who is currently a Train Operator and he got an email stating that people from off of list 3600 MAY be contacted and offered a cleaning position for both subways and buses which puts another option out there for people with higher list numbers. By the by I scored a 97.5 list number 1,241.

So the other day I was a little more curious about the position, in which I wanted to find out more information about being a track worker. So I searched around and found http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/topic/11393-any-updates-on-track-worker-exam-5016/. Some of the posts I found very interesting from the 5016 thread were:

I have a question about the medical process, which I was hoping someone could help me out with:

 

I initially took B/O exam 2613, and when it came time for the medical, the TA Physician put me on medical hold since she diagnosed me with muscle spasm in my legs. As a result, I was on medical hold for a good 3 weeks, since I had to see a neurologist, and getting an appointment was very hard. As a result, since I came back so late, even my second drug test expired as well, in which I had to take another one before final processing.

 

My question is: When I go for my medical for Track Worker, I was planning on bringing a note, or letter, from the neurologist stating that my medical condition is under control, which I plan on obtaining after my first drug test. My question is, how old does the note, or letter, have to be for them to accept it? A couple of weeks? A couple of months? I tried calling MAC (Medical Assessment Center) about it today, and they did not give me a clear answer.

I knew the process of these things going in so the waiting part doesn't bother me one bit... I originally applied for the exam while I was working for another job... I figured it couldn't hurt to take the test and have something down the line if I passed. I passed with a score in the lower 90s... and blame myself for not going over my answers for a second time since I finished the test with tons of time left. My list number is in the early 4000s, high... but a lot of people are listed even higher. On the flip side in 2 years or even 3-4 years when.... and if they call me (tho I always heard they'll call you... just a matter of when they call you) I may not even want the job if I have a better one by that time... but again.. it's still nice to know you passed and made the list and didn't score below the 90s (no offense to those that did score below the 90s... because my score isn't that great in the lower 90s). we took the test and we passed... now it's out of our hands.. they will call when they call.

So I got my official "NOTICE OF RESULT" in the mail today. Upon reading this notice, within the first paragraph, two of the sentences state:

 

"Please note that a list must be established and vacancies must exist before it can be used for hiring purposes. Eligible lists are usually established sixty days after they are made public."

 

Just a reminder that my list # is 280* (between 2800 and 2809), with a score of 95.00%.

 

Any feedback or thoughts about this? With 12,494 candidates, this will be interesting...

Just got my results in saturday. Got a 97.50 score with a list # in the 1100's. From what it seems i will probably get called for Track Worker before any of the other exams i have taken for MTA. Such as #2613 and #3101 Bus operator exams. Let's see what happen.. Good luck to all....

First of all, in my opinion, there is no need to re-produce what is on the MTA website, especially since I already posted it (pg 24, #235). Second, on page 24, post #232, another member posted the link to the list, therefore we already know that there are 12,494 people on the list. I do appreciate you telling us that your list # is in the 3000's, which is not far from mine, which is 280* (from 2800 to 2809). However, if we don't receive the letter with our results, we have to call DCAS? I'm just asking cause the letter I got was from NYC Transit, since they are the ones who administered the exam.

 

Lastly, what do you mean by "THAT SHOULD GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WERE YOU AT."? I'm confused and having trouble understanding what you are saying.

Yes you can call DCAS and find out what list number they are currently at. For example I took the conductor test and when I call to see about the status of the list the automated machine states my grade, number of people who passed the test, number of people eligible to be hired and the last number of the person hired. When you call DCAS they tell you about any CITY test you have taken. The number is (212) 669-1357 all you have to do is type in your SS# and follow the instructions.

All I could think of is some answers were contested and as opposed to one correct answer they allow two and now one answer you may have been scored as wrong was now re-scored as a correct answer. It has happened.

 

I myself contested 9 proposed answers on a promotional and had eight changed. Now there were two correct answers.

 

I wouldn't say anything if or when your called.

Those 10 points can put you one or two numbers ahead and make a huge difference when called.

Chances are others were given the credit also.

After working as a track worker, how many years on the job do you need before you can go for a promotion? And would someone be ablebto tell me the types of promotions/pay scale? Thanks

You start at $20 an hour going up to around $29 an hour after 4 years. It's steady 52 weeks a year 40 hours a week minimum.

 

You get a pension, health benefits, vacation time, sick time, holidays, etc.

If you pick a capital job wether days or nights there is overtime at time and one half.

 

In Track department there is plenty of room not only for promotions in supervision but also specialist jobs as a track worker you can pick based on your seniority such as Track walker (inspector) , Crane operator, Truck driver, Pay load operator, Welder / Burner jobs, etc. All of them Transit will have you trained in and if a CDL is needed in the event you pick a job requiring one they will pay for it.

 

Some guys can make more on the outside in construction or even IT jobs but the job security out there is wearing thin. Here you'll have job security.

 

Anything bad or I might find unfair with Transit still are not enough to make look for other work.
