Please see the Track Worker Exam #8600 topic for more information.

Last I took the test it was pretty standard like any other vision test.

The only difference I remember is that you will look into little view finders showing a circle filled with colored dots. Within in the circle a number or letter of a different color will be in the middle. The colors are very faint and the test is used to check for color blindness. Maybe even a test for depth perception.

If you wear glasses, bring them and let them know. It's better then being put on medical hold. All that will happen is that your ID (pass) will say "corrective lenses required" as mine does. When you began, you ask your supervisor for a prescription eyeglass form, take it to a GVS Vision place (That's who does the safety glasses) and they will give you an eye exam and show you the frames for prescription safety glasses. Try them all out and pick a pair that are comfortable.

Also, Track Worker is a safety sensitive title meaning you are subject to random drug testing which consists of a breathalyzer and urine sample.
There is no getting out of it if your name comes up one day/night while working. No going home sick, going awol or other. If you are on probation and caught dirty your fired. If your not on probation your suspended and have to go into a rehab program and are now called monthly for testing.

thank you for the info and the quick response. I am just wondering if there is any portion of the eye exam where they make you cover one eye and test the other eye by itself or if there is some type of electronic equipment they may use that simulates a test like this.

Hello eveyone, been watching this thread for a while.  I'm in the low 300's (300-320) on the list.  I have heard nothing as of yet.  I see guys in the 270's going for medical evaluations, and I can't seem to get any info from calling the phone numbers provided by NYCTA (8229-8231). Also, there is word of a class starting soon (Feb 2).  I'm thinking that one has the guys who are the very first on the list.  Just hoping I do not get passed up.  All my info is current with MTA.  Any Idea where the list is at, and who is the highest list number reading or following this thread that has been contacted? Thanks.

Try to clear it up as fast as you can and get the paper work back to medical.

If there is a class in February you want to be in it. Your Seniority number can mean the difference between a night job and day job, etc.

Night or day is a preference.

I've worked days my first two years. Having a normal schedule was nice. The work is a little less physically taxing and your out doors with more choices of places to eat.

The down side is, if your in capital where the money is compared to maintenance, you will work at least a Saturday or Sunday depending on your days off or even both I'd offered and accepted. That's hard when you have young kids. In a nutshell you work from Sun up to Sun down on the weekends. Weather can also affect your overtime. I've had a few weekends rained out where the send you in the hole for minor work just too do something.

When I was nights I actually liked it better. The work was more physically taxing and you really have to work at a proper eating habits and getting regular sleep but I didn't have to Worry about falling thru the structure, dropping a tool or material into the street, etc. It can take almost a year to become comfortable working on structure. Weather want a factor with the overtime since your in the hole unless it was real bad in the day and the work trains could not loaded. Even working the weekends you finish by the late afternoon-early evening and still have some weekend left. Also, I had free time during the week while the wife at work and kids in school. Go to the gym, run errands, things around the house, help out at my kids school, etc.

It's all up to you what's best.

Any updates as to what list number there up too?

No updates from DCAS yet. Considering MTA has a class date already set and the amount of applicants needed to fill the class, I would assume we should get an update soon.

Someone mentioned they had to go in for their first appointment and his list number was in the 270s. That was the last update we had.

Not sure the class is completely filled as of yet. I went in yesterday for my second and last appointment. There were a lot of guys still coming in on their first appointment. Place was packed. Couldn't imagine they would be processing so many candidates unless they were going to get called in for a class. Hard to tell what number they were up to. My take is they were around late 200's getting into 300's. Everyone seems to keep to themselves in there. Hard to get any info. It's like the candidates are highly competitive in there! Guys the process is plain and simple. Either you got your stuff in order or you don't . There are a lot of filters in the hiring process meant to catch you slipping through the cracks. Don't get caught up. Have all your documents ready and in order is all I can say.

@pilotboy. That's weird because 140/90 is considered normal. Anything over is high blood pressure. Did you get disqualified?

. Really? That's interesting. Nah I didn't get disqualified, I just have to prove that it's under control.

With the NY Blood Center, I know any reading from 100/60 to 140/100 is acceptable. That's strange...

A note from a physician, whether a specialist or your regular primary care physician will suffice.
