From the Better Buses Action Plan:

Story Avenue, Bronx River Avenue and White Plains Road, Bronx

NYC DOT will study and implement comprehensive bus and safety improvements on Story Avenue, Bronx River Avenue, and White Plains Road to improve bus speed, bus reliability and pedestrian safety. Potential solutions include bus lanes on Bronx River Avenue between Story Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard, Story Avenue between Bronx River Avenue and White Plains Road, and White Plains Road between Bruckner Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue. Bus lanes on Story Avenue will be daytime-only, with evening and overnight parking permitted. Additional improvements include potential bus stop changes, updates to curb regulations, and a midblock pedestrian crossing.

The improvements has already been implemented since the week of September 5 with the bus stop eliminations on Story Avenue and the relocation of the westbound Bx5 stop on Bronx River Ave and Bruckner Blvd next to the gas station. Bus lanes and other improvements coming soon.

As of the week of October 24, the stops that were eliminated on Story Avenue were restored.

Why would they have been restored? @Mpn4179

It was restored due to the Bx6 SBS. The route was not coming to Story Avenue until 2023 due to OMNY. It didn’t make sense to install SBS machines in June 2022 only to be removed in early 2023, as that was a waste of resources. Once the community board and residents found out, they requested all or some of the bus stops back until the Bx6 SBS comes.

They only restored the Noble Avenue stop in both directions and the Boynton Avenue stop heading eastbound. (Those stops were heavily used.) As of 12/1, the bus lanes were installed and painted and went into service on Monday, 12/6.

So why can’t they just extend the Bx6SBS to Story Av and have that be the pilot route for all door boarding instead of doing all this nonsense?

I don’t know man, maybe they’re actually doing it on the first day of all door boarding, maybe, but I wouldn’t know.

I would've thought that was self-explanatory.

That's not what I was asking though.

I'll reiterate the question again; why is (MTA) delaying the all-door pilot rollout until 2023.

That was not your question.

Your question in particular was "So why can’t they just extend the Bx6SBS to Story Av and have that be the pilot route for all door boarding instead of doing all this nonsense?"

And that's because.

1. You need OMNY for that, and OMNY availability is still very low at the moment.

2. They're retiring the metrocard by 2023.

Both of which was basically explained in the original post you responded to, especially in regards to installing metrocard machines, just to have it be removed a year or so later.....

By the time 2023 comes through, we'll have passes available for OMNY along with new vending machines to purchase fares, passes, more places to purchase OMNY cards and whatnot.

We get that you're a little slow sometimes, but context clues are easy to figure out lol.

@Lawrence St I get what you're saying, but I think one of the big issues is that there's no unlimited OMNY pass available yet. So until such a pass is available, it doesn't make sense to have any pilot routes (but of course, for all we know that might be the case by mid-2022 when they implement the Bronx redesign)

Thank you, that's what I was looking for.
