If you could correct a destination sign, what would it say?

Bx41 Wakefield

Recommended Posts

Some buses may not stop at the advertised distance and some could uses a destination sign change. Here are some.

Bx8 WILLAMSBRIDGE-226 ST- Where the bus terminates.

Bx12 INWOOD-BWAY-207 ST because it was a better signage

Bx31/34 WOODLAWN-242 ST to match the BxM4B signage

Bx41 THE HUB-149 ST since that is the true last stop.

Oh you don't like abbreviations, lol.

Well, for me, I'm okay with them. But when they become jumbled and very hard to decipher, then that's just lazy bus sign design.

For me, I would change the signs to have "East" and "West" on them, depending if the location or road they travel on have one of them.

Example:

M5: LIMITED

M5: GREENWICH VILL÷W. HOUSTON ST

M5: via 5 AV

Another I'd like to see changed:

BM3: SHEEPSHEAD BAY÷SHORE BL

BM3: via OCEAN AV÷ via EMMONS AV

Yeah

BX13 YANKEE STD to BX13 YANKEE STAD.. Or else, they have STDs lol

BX15 FORDHAM PLZ to FORDHAM PLAZA, PLZ souns like PLEASE, Fordham PLEASE lol

W60/61/62= FORDHAM to Fordham Rd and Valantine Avenue

LOL! Yeah they should at least put YANKEE STADIUM on two lines.

Some of these, I'm not sure they'd be totally beneficial, but here we go anyway:

S62| Travis÷Wild Av

S62|via Victry Bl

B17|Canarsie÷P15-E80 Sts

B17|via Remsen Av÷via Rkwy Pky Sta

M9|Union Sq÷4 Av-14 St

M9|via Water St÷via Avenue B

B82|Bath Bch÷25-Cropsey Avs

B82|via Flatlands Av÷via Kings Hwy

B6|LIMITED

B6|Bensonhurst÷Harway-B37

B6|via Av H÷via Bay Pkwy

X38|Sea Gate÷West 37 St

X38|via FDR DR÷via Cropsey Av

M21|Bellvue Hosp÷1 Av-27 St

M21|via Houston÷via Av C

B45|Ocean Hill÷Ralph Av

B45|via St Johns

B8|Brownsville÷Rockaway Av

B8|via 18 Av÷via Av D

Bx42|Morris Hts÷River Pk Twrs

Bx42|via Tremont Av

B100|Mill Basin÷Strickland Av

B100|via Fillmore Av÷via E 66 St

M2|Washington Hts÷B'way-168 St

M2|via Madison Av÷via Powell Bl

M2|LIMITED

Q11|Elmhurst÷Queens Bl

Q11|via Woodhaven Bl

I have more ideas, but they haven't come yet.

Modernizing bus signs... Interesting...

Some of these, I'm not sure they'd be totally beneficial, but here we go anyway:

S62| Travis

Wild Av

S62|via Victry Bl

same w/ the X11 (except for the Victory Bl. part)... leave the (name of neighborhood here) only destination signage for suburban bus routes......

B17|Canarsie

P15-E80 Sts

B17|via Remsen Av

via Rkwy Pky Sta

I think the current B17 Paerdegat branch signage is ok as is (canarsie - E80th st).... riders know of the huge difference b/w the bus serving Av. L, etc. & the bus running along Seaview, to E 108th....

M9|Union Sq

4th Av-14th St

M9|via Water St

via Avenue B

Maybe they can add the Av B. to it, but otherwise, I think the current signage is okay

B82|Bath Bch

25-Cropsey Avs

B82|via Flatlands Av

via Kings Hwy

I mentioned this in another thread... while I agree that that area isn't Bensonhurst, I dunno, I wouldn't consider that Bath Beach either... I think it's more Gravesend than anything...

B6|LIMITED

B6|Bensonhurst

Harway-B37

B6|via Av H

via Bay Pkwy

I don't know about using Harway / Bath 37th st, but I think, somehow, the shopping ctr. out there should be mentioned in the signage (as it does that "loop").... and it runs on Bay pkwy longer than it does on any other street, so maybe that's why they don't include any of the other sts. it runs on... But since the route is a lifeline in Canarsie, I can see why you think some other street it runs on, should be in the destination sign of the B6...

X38|Sea Gate

West 37 St

X38|via FDR DR

via Cropsey Av

Probably not necessary, but....

True.

M21|Bellvue Hosp

1 Av-27 St

M21|via Houston

via Av C

I agree with this... would reflect the area the route runs through, perfectly...

currently it just says BELLEVUE - 1av-27th st...

B45|Ocean Hill

Ralph Av

B45|via St Johns

I know the sign doesn't mention Ocean Hill... but I forgot what it currently states...

B8|Brownsville

Rockaway Av

B8|via 18 Av

via Av D

I can agree to this... could find a way to throw in Brookdale (hospital) if need be....

Bx42|Morris Hts

River Pk Twrs

Bx42|via Tremont Av

and the Bx40?

River park towers accurately defines that immediate area where it terminates anyway... I think the 40/42 signage is fine....

B100|Mill Basin

Strickland Av

B100|via Fillmore Av

via E 66 St

I don't disagree, but how about this...

a Mill basin bound bus only says the 'via E. 66th st'...

and the Kings Hwy sta. bound buses says the 'via Fillmore av'

M2|Washington Hts

B'way-168 St

M2|via Madison Av

via Powell Bl

M2|LIMITED

I think the M2 signage is okay

Q11|Elmhurst

Queens Bl

Q11|via Woodhaven Bl

What does it currently say?

I have more ideas, but they haven't come yet.

my reply, bolded.

Cool.... I await them bro.

S62: That's my theory behind that one.

B17: Okay, I can agree with that too. I thought the via Rkwy Pkwy would be more beneficial, but if they know, that's fine then.

M9: My theory is that I added Av C to the M21, and the M14 branches already have an Avenue destination.

B82: Gravesend would be fine too. I just took the neighborhood off of the schedule (it says Bath Beach in that area).

B6: There's a shopping center over there? It can have its own signage then. This one was hard. I wanted to include Glenwood Road, but then again, it's not that long. Maybe that's why they haven't included any vias here.

X38: I know...I'm kind of a stickler for signs, it's my pet peeve.

M21: Agreed.

B45: It says Crown Hts÷Ralph Av. That area is more Ocean Hill, apparently. And there's no "via" currently.

B8: If needed, yes. It does pass by, and could have its own sign.

Bx40/42: It can have the same sign, I didn't include it because this was my list. I guess I just want "Riv Pk Twr" to be spelled out a bit more now that they have some LED signs.

B100: Why not? It can work that way too.

Q11: It says: Elmhurst÷Woodhaven Bl Sta/via Woodhaven Bl. That's a bit redundant in my eyes, which is why I changed it to Queens Bl. My theory is that the Q46 says "Kew Gardens÷Queens Bl," not Kew Gardens÷Union Tpke Sta.

Again, thanks for the comments, very insightful. Still can't locate the other list that I made, so maybe I'll make a new one.

The majority of them need to be more specific, IMO. The street it terminates on & closet intersection would be ideal. Or if it terminates at a landmark, include the street it terminates on(like on the M104).

For example, the B60 towards Canarsie: Canarsie(the neighborhood it terminates in) Williams Av.(the street it terminates on) -Flatlands Av.(the closest intersection).

I wish some of the signs had VIAs on them i.e:

Bx9: RIVERDALE/263 STREET

Bx9: VIA BROADWAY

Same goes for the Q54 which does not state it is going on Metropolitan Avenue when it does for most of its route.

The M101 should also acknowledge Amsterdam Avenue as its main streets. The M100 states it, but travels for a shorter distance on Amsterdam than the M101.

A few years back, this was on the Bx15:

Bx15: WEST HARLEM/12 AVENUE

Bx15: VIA 3 AVE/VIA 125 STREET

The Bx15 is the TRUE 125 Street crosstown!

There are more, but I can't think of them now.
