R42 M Train Posted March 14, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 14, 2010 The is still running to Astoria because they are still doing trackwork on the uptown Broadway Express tracks which forces the to run local. The on the local tracks means that it cannot terminate at 57st/7av and must continue all the way up to the Astoria-Ditmars Station.

R42 M Train Posted March 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 14, 2010 so how long is it gonna last,is it the last week? I talked to a track worker and he said it should be over within the next 2 weeks and uptown broadway exp. service will be restored.
Lennyj17 Posted March 14, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 14, 2010 Also the MTA probably wants Astoria to get used to seeing the in the Neighborhood...So that it will be an easy transition when the is axed.
T to Dyre Avenue Posted March 14, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 14, 2010 If they wanted to do that, they'd be running the and not the to Astoria on weekdays, since that would be the only time it would run there under the new service plan. The won't operate to Astoria outside of weekdays because weekdays are the only times when the currently runs and that's what they're looking to replace. Grand Concourse Posted March 14, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 14, 2010 Right, plus isn't this more like overtime work by having Q trains run to Queens on the weekends? This is more of a waste of money. If there's nothing wrong with the 7, there's no need to run the Q and N into Queens on the weekend.
MattTrain Posted March 14, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 14, 2010 Just checking out the to Astoria-Ditmars on the Astoria line, very few passengers on it.

I think this is coming out of the Capital budget and not the Operating budget
E Local Posted March 15, 2010 Share #11 Posted March 15, 2010 trains are running to Astoria weekdays when the is eliminated: - will replace the weekdays to Astoria. - will replace the all times via local. - will remain the same.

rockdove Posted March 15, 2010 Share #15 Posted March 15, 2010 ...rode an R160 yesterday. It's nice having R68s again in Astoria.... like seeing an old friend. Especially nice to sit at that window seat and see my neighborhood facing forward like in the old days. Also, I can definitely hear how much heavier these trains are vs R160s. Princelex Posted March 15, 2010 Share #16 Posted March 15, 2010 Related to the topic, if the really does go to Astoria if the is cut, what will become of the R160's on the ? Will they go to the and it will become a 100% R160 line or will they be extra trains for the ?

N probably won't need to be all R160s since crews won't have to deal with two trains at Ditmars. So you might see a few more R68/as on the N again.
